Happy New Years Folks! Since this would have immediately ID'd me, I can go ahead and give you the history lesson for this:
"Blue Light Special" refers to an impromptu sales tactic that occurred at (and is often associated with) Kmarts in the United States back in the 1970s. Basically: some random item in store would be marked down for a short time and would be announced using blue light. Yes. Red bought that ring on sale at the Thrifty Megamart lol. I recognize that the Thrifty Megamart is a Costco analogy, but there's something a little schlocky, homey and warm about Kmart to me lol.
Also, did you know you can find archives of Kmart in-store muzak on the Internet Archive? Its such a good rabbit hole to dig into.
