It's been 3 months, 2 weeks,12 hours and 43 minutes they’ve been in Black Mesa, with hardly any signs of other living organisms never mind other humans. If the science team wants to qualify themselves as humans that is.
They’d taken out the entire US Military for the 3rd time this week, looting the bodies for ammo, first aid and whatever else people needed to stay alive for long periods of time,
Tommy's voice called from across the room, his iconic “Mr.Freeman,” He stumbled over his wording as per usual “look!”.
“Yeah, Bud?” Gordon gives a slightly disinterested response, but he responds because it's Tommy and we love Tommy.
“I found- I found a cat!”
Gordon pauses for a second, halting his corpse raid. “...A..A cat ?” He echos back.
“Yeah! :)” Tommy holds up a navy blue, scruffbag of a cat in the air, holding it towards Gordon, who only really squints at it. He gets up to take a closer look, Its lazy stare and weird ugly snaggle tooth is oddly familiar.
He scrutinises it, really staring it down as it just lazily peered back. Gordon furrows his brows, the cats tail swishes, this cat is fucking weird, cats arn’t blue right? They’ve never been blue. Sure there's Russian Blues, but they’re not blue blue. They’re grey. This cat is undeniably blue, which Gordon says so. “What is wrong with you? Why are you blue?”
“Huh?” Tommy tilts his head, inspecting the cat and looking back at Gordon, “What are you talking about, Mr.Freeman?”
He stifles his own laugh, because his reference is funny as hell. “It looks a little strange, doesn’t it?” he waves an arm around as if this highlights the topic any further. Tommy frowns in response. “What? What do you mean Mr.Freeman? Have you not. Not seen a cat before?” Before Gordon can even consider defending himself with “No Tommy, I have seen a cat before, this one is fucking blue.” He’s cut off.
“A cat is part of the feline genus, a species of animal domesticated 10,000 to 12,000 years ago in Fertile Crescent, the geographic region where some of the earliest developments in human civilization occurred. Cats are commonly found as house pets in today's modern home!”
“Thank you, Dr.Coomer, I know what a cat is.” Gordon groans out, pinching the bridge of his nose and feeling his blood pressure rise and his hair whitening and thinning. A devastating combo. “I’m just saying I think it looks weird.”
“You look weird.” Bubby half snaps, walking past him to pet the cat's head, it leaning in and giving the most human man sounding “Meow” Go||||\\\rdon has ever heard in his entire life. “What kind of cat sounds like that ?”
“We’re gonna call him Fluffy!” Coomer chimed in, walking past the group, declaring this weird cat an honorary part of the team until further notice.
