If I say "I'm sorry" (Will you forgive me?)

Summary:

Ken hasn’t wanted to walk in on anything in life ever, really. He was the type of person who was just trying to make it through life on their own without troubling anyone else. He just tried to stay in his own lane without accidentally swerving into someone else's.

Work Text:

He hasn’t wanted to walk in on anything in life ever, really. He was the type of person who was just trying to make it through life on their own without troubling anyone else. He just tried to stay in his own lane without accidentally swerving into someone else's.

He, Tamba, Watari, and Chiba were all making some food in the kitchen together. A bunch of cupcakes, actually. (Well Watari, Tamba, and Chiba were. Tamba just dragged Ken along for the fun of it.) They were having a lot of fun and Chiba insisted she could carry all the frosted cupcakes… before Chiba accidentally tripped over something and dropped all the cupcakes she was carrying.

The two other gals were a bit saddened, but not angry at Chiba. So, Tamba asked Ken to grab a bucket of water so they could clean up the mess. Ken, being a polite man, agreed. He wasn’t doing much before, anyway. So why not help just a little bit? It’d make him a kind person anyway.

And so that’s what Ken was doing, walking from the laundry room with a bucket of water and his blade pen tucked safely away in his pocket, away from anyone who could see it. That’s what he was doing, staying in his lane. Away from anyone that could push him out by accident or on purpose. He was just going to go straight back to the kitchen where the others we-

“KYAH-”

Ken jumped a bit at the sudden scream, splashing a bit of water onto his nice pants. Dang it- … Ken could easily just ignore the scream, go on with his day, and stay in his own lane. But that scream… that scream sounded awfully familiar. It sounded like- someone he knew- it sounded just like-

Against his own inner voice begging him to just go on, Ken walked down to where he heard the scream, which was followed by the sound of someone falling onto the ground and then a… knife? ‘Or something metallic clattering onto the floor. Oh my god what if someone killed someone else- no- n- no I shouldn’t think like that.’

The Computer Lab. That’s where the sound originated. Ken took one deep breath in and looked inside the computer lab to see what was going on. Curiosity killed the cat, and in this situation…

Ken was the mouse, forced to play a cat-and-mouse game.

Inside the computer lab was Isono Miki, standing jaggedly, almost as if she was in a panicked state. Arms shaking, body quaking, and her white suit stained with bits of crimson red from behind. A knife with the same scarlet colour lied right by her feet, like it was taunting her. ‘You did this’ it’d say. ‘Look at yourself.’

And right next to that knife was…

… was….

“K- Kazutoshi!” Ken yelled instinctively, not even meaning to blurt it out. This alerted Isono, turning around with a… darkness in her eyes. She- she killed Kazutoshi- she killed him in cold blood and she was going to kill Ken next if he didn’t do something- anything -

In a split second decision, Ken splashed the bucket of water he had in his hands onto Isono, distracting her for a few seconds- buying him a few more second to run- to get help- to scream for gods sake-

But instead he slammed the light out, took out his blade-pen (the stupid blade-pen he wanted to hide, that he never wanted), and opened the light switch, stripping it of it’s casing. Exposing the wires. This was going to save him- Isono would get shocked, go unconscious, and he could help Kazutoshi- this was going to help.

Isono, while still being doused in water, reached for the light. It was dark- she needed to see- she needed to see what was going on- but the second she reached for that light, those exposed wires wrapped around her- her neck, her heart, her chest, and ripped through her. A strangled cry of pain erupted through her neck before she fell to the floor.

                                       Right.

                                                                                    Next.

                                                                                                                     To.

                                                                                                                                                     Kazutoshi.

Kazutoshi- that was the whole reason he was here. That’s the whole reason he came- and- and now Isono was dead as well. Ken killed Isono. Ken was going to die because he killed Isono Miki herself.

Ken didn’t want to die- he didn’t want to die- he was going to die and he didn’t want to die-!

But- but he didn’t want Kamimura to die either- if he didn’t think fast, all three of them to be dead- he didn’t want to die he didn’t want Kazutoshi to die he didn’t mean to kill Miki either-

Ken, in the heat of the moment, took off his jacket and inverted it before stabbing Isono in the neck with the kitchen knife near her. He then inverted his jacket again, back to its original state, and then ran out of the room to grab a piece of paper from his room. With his pen, he scribbled an “out of order” sign and ran back to the computer lab and stuck it on top of the now exposed light switch.

He picked up Kazutoshi and ran to the infirmary- ok he needed to help Kazutoshi- he needed to help him- he had to.

….

…..

“I… d- don’t want to die… .” Ken choked out, tears streaming down his face. Ken was able to help Kazutoshi… he… he was able to keep him alive but- at the cost of his own life. He was going to die- but he didn’t want to die-

“.... I’m sorry, Kazutoshi.” He cried, looking down at the ground, away from the Chemists boring eyes, drilling deep into his soul and heart.

“Why?” Kamimura asked, his voice soft and husky.

“.... I didn’t want t- to die. I didn’t w- want you to die either..” He admitted, voice laced with shame. He should’ve just stayed in his own lane. Now he’s hurting people more than if he had just-

He never wanted to walk in on that.

He just wanted to stay in his own lane-
