Work Text:
“Why the hell are you looking at them like that?!”
Kasamatsu punched Kise on the side, causing the blonde to yelp on impact. “Ow! Senpai! I’m not, I swear!”
The older man grimaced, crossing his arms before walking into the department store. He wanted to get new shoes and brought his exasperating boyfriend with him for his fashion insight, but regretted it the moment a crowd of girls walked by squealing at him. He should’ve brought his younger brothers instead, but he knew that he’d end up with an empty wallet if he did.
“Like hell, I saw you!”
“I’m only looking at you Sen— ouch!”
“Shut up! Now tie my shoelaces!”
Kise groaned at the pain of being punched, kneeling down on one knee to tie the fresh lace of the basketball shoe Kasamatsu was trying on.
“Ah, you two!”
The couple looked up, seeing Kuroko and Kagami had just entered the store.
Kise hurried to finish lacing up the shoes, standing up before gesturing his hands out. “Kurokocchi!”
“Oi! What about me?!” Kagami shouted.
Kasamatsu’s eyes narrowed at Kise as the latter seemed very ecstatic to see his blue-headed friend. Kuroko didn’t even seem excited to see Kise. If anything, he looked like his usual blank self. For the two months Kise and Kasamatsu had been dating, Kise had never looked that elated to see him, and he was his own boyfriend.
This would be a usual time where Kasamatsu would kick him, but he didn’t. Instead, he flagged over an employee to purchase the shoes on his feet and went to go check out at the counter.
As he went to go check out at the counter, the cashier had paused to scan Kasamatsu’s coupon as his female employee whispered something in his ear.
“Hey, sir,” the male employee said, giving Kasamatsu a bit of a sly look. “That’s Kise Ryōta over there, right?”
Kasamatsu blinked before cocking a suspicious eyebrow. “Yeah, what about it?”
“I saw you come into the store with him. My friend here is wondering if he’s single and if you could, you know, hook them up together,” he tittered. “I’ll apply my employee discount on these shoes,” he sang maliciously.
Kasamatsu rolled his eyes. “His modeling contract doesn’t allow him to date,” he stated considering it was technically true.
“Awe man,” the female employee sighed in defeat, walking to the back to fetch Kasamatsu’s shoes in his size.
The male employee started pressing a few buttons on the cash register. “And how will you be paying sir?”
Kasamatsu was about to answer however an arm reached over right besides him and gestured his credit card to the employee. “Here you go, I’m paying for this.”
“Oi! Kise—“
“Woah, no way!” The male employee stared at the card currently in his hands. He then tapped it on the counter. “This is Kise Ryōta’s credit card? I’ve never seen a metal card! It’s really heavy!”
Kise wore a sheepish smile. “Ah, please just swipe my card already, sir. I wouldn’t want it to get dented.
“Ah, sorry.”
Kasamatsu turned his head to glare at Kise before crossing his arms to walk away out of the store. Kise hurried to grab the receipt and the bag with Kasamatsu’s shoes before thanking the store employee and scurrying out of the store to catch up to his crabby boyfriend.
Once Kise was able to catch up with Kasamatsu, he instantly tried to lock their hands. Kise gained an elbow in the stomach for even trying to do that.
“Senpai,” Kise whined. “What did you do that for? I just paid for your shoes.”
“Shut up!” Kasamatsu barked back at him, gaining the attention of nearby passersby.
“Then what’s wrong? What did I do this time?”
“Figure it out!”
“Hah? Is it because of those girls? Come on Senpai!! You know it means nothing to me~.“
“Shut up! Leave me alone!”
“We’re going the same way to the train station though, we might as well just walk together.”
“Go take a cab!”
A stressed sigh escaped Kise’s mouth, scratching his head in agitation. “Senpai, I can never read you! How am I supposed to know what’s making you mad if you don’t tell me?”
“Seriously, this is ridiculous," he added
Kasamatsu’s steps stopped, and that’s when Kise knew he really fucked up. Kise panicked, oh shit oh shit oh shit.
“Fine!” Kasamatsu turned his head around, his eyebrows furrowed. “If I’m being ridiculous then why don’t you just leave me?!”
And with that, Kasamatsu stomped away, leaving Kise dumbstruck.
—
Next week had arrived, and Kasamatsu still refused to talk to Kise.
Even during practice, Kasamatsu would just act like Kise didn’t exist. Every time Kise tried to talk to him, Kasamatsu would give him the cold shoulder. Kasamatsu wouldn’t wait for him after school when they would usually walk home together. Hell, Kasamatsu stopped eating in his own classroom. Kise would walk in, seeing Kasamatsu’s seat empty.
Kise sighed. He didn’t know what to do. Valentine’s Day was tomorrow. Did Kasamatsu even want to do anything romantic with him?
You know what, if he wants to be stubborn, then I’m just going to have to push his buttons.
And so, during his lonely walk home, Kise found himself scrolling through his phone in search of Moriyama-senpai’s contact.
Moriyama-senpai, pls help me boyfriend-senpai is mad at me and I don’t know why :c
The response Kise got back was instantaneous. Kise, you probably made him jealous again. Did you bump into Kuroko or something? You always get overly excited when you see him.
Kise blinked. He began to recall the moments last week when he went to buy basketball shoes with Kasamatsu. Then it dawned on him. They did see Kuroko, and Kise did that annoying little squeal whenever he saw him.
Okay, it just hit me, Kise texts back. We did see Kuroko last week and that’s when he stopped talking to me.
And Moriyama then sent back another text that made Kise feel completely stupid. You talk about Kuroko an awful lot, and you know how tight Kasamatsu can be. It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow, try to splurge on him and make him feel appreciated, or something.
Kise didn’t reply back. His footsteps sped up in the direction of the nearest shopping street, determined to find any way to spoil his grumpy, stubborn boyfriend tomorrow in hopes of even a word back.
As he walked through the street, he then noticed stares going in his direction. He then realized, how the hell was he going to survive tomorrow trying to sabotage Kasamatsu with gifts. While having to deal with girls giving him gifts as well.
Aagghh!! Kise internally screamed. Perhaps, what if he filled his bedroom with gifts instead? But then Kise thought that he would probably get into more trouble for trying to bombard his bedroom with gifts because Kasamatsu might think he was a pervert for doing so.
Screw it. Kise will fill every single place Kasamatsu goes to every day with cheesy gifts. He was in desperation to get his boyfriend back.
Kise walked into a nearby flower shop, greeting an employee before asking if they did delivery orders. Luckily, they did, and so Kise had shamelessly asked for a thousand roses to be mailed over to Kasamatsu’s house. The lady helping him was a bit taken aback as she was writing down Kasamatsu’s address.
After that, Kise figured that he should probably get Kasamatsu something a lot more meaningful. Well, he had already bought Kasamatsu new basketball shoes, and Kasamatsu had recently gotten his guitar repaired. But then Kise remembered the poor state of his wired headphones he made fun of him for (he still has the bruise from when he got kicked for doing so), and yelled at him about how not everyone can afford expensive headphones.
Kise then asked the employee who had helped him out with his flower delivery for directions to the electronic store. Once given, he walked out of the store, knowing that his parents were so going to yell at him for overusing his weekly credit card budget, but it was Valentine’s Day, so he was sure they’d understand.

The next day, Kise sneaked into the club room during his study hall to place his gigantic stack of gifts from his fangirls into his locker. Then he realized it wasn’t all going to fit, so he neatly placed them in a hidden corner of the room.
His phone then rang. It was from Kasamatsu’s younger brother.
He answered it. “Ah, Yuji-chan?”
“Kise, my mom called. Did you send a thousand roses to my house?” Yuji asked.
“Yes, I did! They’re for your brother,” Kise said proudly, wanting to impress Senpai’s younger brother for being a good boyfriend to his Nii-san.
“Nii-san is allergic to roses. You know that, right?”
WHAT. “L-Like deadly allergic?!” Kise said.
“No, it just makes him itch, but still, uh, you should probably find a way to return it.”
“I can’t! They’re non-refundable!” Kise exclaimed. “Ah, can you ask your parents to put them in your garage or something—“
By the devil’s luck, Kasamatsu had walked into the club room, taken aback by Kise’s appearance, but was even more taken aback, even offended, when the blonde had scurried out of the club room.
“Wow, he’s so disturbed by my presence he didn’t even greet me--“ Kasamatsu said angrily. “Whatever, he’s an idiot anyway.”
“Kise-kun, can’t you just tell him to not go home for a bit?” Yuji asked.
“I can’t! Senpai is mad at me right now, and so I thought…” Kise trailed upsettingly.
He heard Yuji sigh from the other side of the line. “My mom is home, I’ll call her and I’ll see what she can do.”
“Ah, thank you Yuji-kun! You’re the best!”
With that, Kise hung up the phone. He was not going to be able to relax for the whole day.
Wait, I had just run out of the room when Senpai came in!! Kise realized as he rushed back into the club room, just to see it completely deserted.
—
Kise beat Kasamatsu to his house. Kasamatsu stayed with the second-years to sweep up the gym, meaning Kise was able to leave early.
“There you are!” Yuji called out, unlocking the gate to the house.
“Sorry, sorry!” Kise apologized, out of breath from all the running. He had gotten a text from Yuji that his mom wasn’t able to hide the roses, so Kise rushed over to help find a solution.
“Aish! Kise!” Yuji huffed, pinching his nose. It resembled very much like the older Kasamatsu. “My brother is a simple guy, ya’ know? A gift card would’ve done it for him.”
“Oh, Yuji-kun, it’s much more complicated!” Kise exclaimed. “He’s mad at me and you know what he’s like when he’s mad.”
“Yeah, yeah, I get it,” Yuji waved off. His phone then rang. He took it out of his pocket, showing his screen to Kise that Senpai was calling him. Kise squeaked while Yuji motioned a hush finger to the blonde.
“Nii-san,” Yuji said, eyeballing Kise nervously. “Yeah, I’m okay, uh, where are you right now? Uh huh, yeah— sure, uhm— yeah, sounds good, okay, bye!”
Yuji had hung up the phone. “Okay, Nii-san said he had to make a quick trip to the store so he was just telling me he might not make the next train. That should buy us some time.”
“Okay, okay, let’s go!” Kise ushered them, closing the gate behind them as he entered.
—
Hiding a thousand roses felt completely impossible.
The first place they tried hiding them was the garage, but then Yuji’s dad came home and had to place his car inside. The second place was the basement, but Kise didn’t want to attract any buys to the roses (which caused Yuji to deeply roll his rolls into the back of his head). The third place was Yuji’s bedroom, but obviously, that option was turned down immediately.
“Ah, what about your parent’s room?” Kise suggested.
“Oh hell no,” Yuji shook his head. “That’s going to end up going in a direction that’s way far from what any of us want.”
“Right, they might—“
“Kise!” Yuji tilted his head, making his grimace apparent from behind the large bouquet of roses he was currently holding. “I don’t want to hear what my parents do in their private time, especially on Valentine’s Day.”
“Ah, right,” Kise tittered.
The two then froze as they heard the front door open, as well as that familiar voice announcing “I’m home.”
Luckily, the two were still in the hallway.
“Oh no!” Kise panicked in a harsh whisper. “What do we do?!”
Good thing Yuji also inherited the quick critical thinking gene of the Kasamatsu's and suggested putting all the bouquets of roses into his room for now until they could figure out a way to hide the roses properly.
That plan was well damned when Yuji’s mom yelled from the kitchen downstairs. “Yuji! Did you hide the roses okay?”
Mommy Kasamatsu clearly did not notice her eldest son’s entrance as he raised a suspicious eyebrow. Sitting up from the couch that he was slouching on, he turned around to see his mom behind the kitchen island.
“Hah? Roses?”
Kasamatsu’s mom’s face paled up a bit, about to fix up some poor coverup but her son was already striding up the stairs in search of the reasoning behind why there were even roses in the house in the first place.
“Aish, mom!” Yuji hissed before practically throwing the bouquets of roses situated in the hallway into his room, pushing Kise inside while slamming the door shut in the process.
Unfortunately, Kasamatsu had caught a glimpse of Yuji’s door being shut closed. He had knocked on the door harshly, trying to even turn the locked door knob.
“Oi! Yuji! Open this door!” He demanded.
Kise was shitting bricks at this point as he mouthed to Yuji “what do I do?!” That’s when Yuji yanked the thick comforter off of his bed and urged Kise to hide underneath. Kise was skinny enough to be hidden under it.
Kise laid down on the bed in a fetal position before Yuji pulled the covers back on top of him. He even got more thick comforters from his closet, creating a mountain of them onto Kise. Oxygen was the least of Kise’s concerns right now.
“Uhm, I’ll be right out Nii-san!” Yuji shouted from the other side of the door.
Then Yuji opened his door carefully, enough for only him to slither out of before closing the door shut again. “Hi Nii-san.”
“Don’t you Hi Nii-san me. Why are there roses in the house? You know that they make me itch.”
“It’s Valentine’s Day, Nii-san. I just got some flowers from these girls at school.”
“Do you really think I’m going to buy that?!”
“What? Are you saying I don’t have any game, Nii-san?”
“Shut up! Now move.”
“But Nii-san, there are roses in there.”
“I’m fine as long as I don’t touch them, now move.”
“But Nii-san.”
“MOVE!”
And because Yuji didn’t have any more balls to disobey his brother, he moved and allowed him to walk in.
When Kasamatsu entered, he was immediately met with the overwhelming floral scent of the roses. He tried his best to safely avoid them before he scanned the room carefully around.
“Hmph,” Kasamatsu crossed his arms before staring down at his younger brother. “You’re telling the truth now, huh?”
“O-Of course, Nii-san,” Yuji guilty scratched his head as he saw Kasamatsu go up to his closet, knowing Kise wasn’t there anyway but that was his second choice of an area to hide him.
“Alright then,” Kasamatsu said. “Let’s go.”
Yuji turned around to exit the room, but right when he stepped into the hallway, he heard a loud, pitchy yelp. Kasamatsu had body slammed directly onto his bed, right on top of Kise.
Kise struggled to sit up as he fought to move the mountain of thick blankets on top of him. It was much harder to do so with Kasamatsu currently sitting on where his lap is.
“So,” Kasamatsu said. “Which one of you is going to tell me why the hell those,” he pointed a finger towards the excessive amount of roses on the other side of Yuji’s room, “are here.”
“Uhh,” Yuji said before dashing down the hallway.
“Ah! Yuji-chan!” Kise called out desperately for his backup, but perhaps for once he had to properly take responsibility for all of this.
“I guess it’s you,” Kasamatsu glared at him. “Now what’s going on?”
Kise sighed. He explained the whole situation about how he figured Kasamatsu was mad because of how excited he got at the shoe store when they saw Kuroko and how surprising him with a bunch of roses and gifts on Valentine’s Day would be a way to show how sorry he was.
“Also, I’m sorry! I didn’t know you were allergic to roses! I’ll clean it up immediately!” Kise tried his best to leave the bed, but his legs were being tied down by both the weight of Kasamatsu and the blankets.
“Forget about it,” Kasamatsu said as he pulled his sleeve up, seeing it was turning red and blotchy. “It’s fine, nothing a bit of calamine lotion can’t fix.”
Kise hung his head down in shame. He had ruined everything. Kasamatsu will surely no longer want to be with him now. But then Kasamatsu poked his cheek.
“Idiot,” he said. “I know your intentions were good, don’t fret about it so much. Besides, I was thinking about you too and how ridiculous I was kind of being. So yeah, you are right, I am kind of ridiculous. I guess I was just jealous of how excited you get whenever you see Kuroko and talk about him all the time, so…”
Kasamatsu turned his head away to avoid Kise’s gaze, visibly embarrassed.
“Senpai,” Kise wrapped his arms gently around his waist. “I admire Kuroko very much and don’t see him that often, but if anything you’re the one I get crazy over.”
“Yeah?"
“Of course, Senpai! You should ask my sisters— erm, that is if you’re able to talk to them— because they’d surely attest to how much I talk about you!”
Kasamatsu smiled gently. “I guess I am just a bit of a jealous type.”
“A bit is an understatement…”
“Hah?”
“Nothing!” Kise squeezed him. “Oh, I actually have something else for you. I’m not sure if you’ll like it so I brought the receipt, but I’d like for you to try it out.”
—
For the rest of the evening, Kise was barely able to carry out a conversation with Senpai as the latter surely appreciated his noise-cancellation headphone gift way too much.
Kise then got a call, blindly answering it. “Hello—“
“Kiseeeee Ryōtaaaaa!!” His mother had screamed into the phone. “Why is there a charge for ¥305,800 on my credit card!?”
“Uhm,” Kise mumbled. “Mom! It’s Valentine’s Day, so I thought I could gift him something special! Come on, Senpai really likes his gifts! Can’t you let it go just for this time? Pleaseeeee,” Kise whined, knowing she’d give in to the baby of the family. “He’s had these ugly wired earbuds for the longest.”
Kasamatsu then slid his headphones off for a second. “Kise? Who’s that?”
“Um, just mom, Senpai,” he said before placing the phone back onto his ear, watching Kasamatsu put his new headphones back on while scrolling through his phone and listening to his favorite tunes.
Kise’s mom rolled her eyes from the other side of the line. “You’re so head over heels for that boy."
Kise chuckled, staring at his techy boyfriend who was still engaged in his phone. He leaned over to place a soft kiss on his forehead.
“Yeah,” Kise said into the phone while staring into Kasamatsu’s confused blue eyes.
“I guess I am.”
