Work Text:
Nagi walked briskly, adjusting his coat as a shield against the snow piling on his shoulders. His nose had turned red, matching the pale tone of his skin where the cold bit the hardest. He hadn’t expected tonight to be the of all, the kind of chill that seeped deep into his bones.
All he wanted now was to sink into his warm, soft bed and sleep through it all, through the biting cold, through the long winter nights until spring arrived, bringing with it the warmth of the sun that would once again fill his room
But this year wasn’t something he could simply sleep through. This year, he was celebrating this snowy night with someone whose warmth rivaled the sun itself, someone Nagi felt he could melt into completely.
The thought of that person lingered in his mind, igniting a spark of energy within him. It made him eager to get home and spend the evening together.
Nagi glanced at a shop with a display window full of flowers, its vibrant arrangements brightening the street he was walking down. He thought to himself that Reo might like a bouquet from here and decided to step inside. The florist, a woman behind the counter, greeted him warmly as he entered.
"Oh, it’s you again," said the florist, who turned out to be the same one Nagi had bought his little cactus from, Choki. The woman greeted him with a bright smile, clearly remembering Nagi. She remembered him, of course. After all, his unique personality had left quite an impression. Nagi responded with a small nod.
"So, are you looking for a plant that’s the least troublesome?" The florist chuckled. Nagi answered in his usual lazy tone, "Nah, I’m gonna buy it for someone," as he touched the back of his neck, looking around the shop, his hands casually brushing the counter. All the flowers are as beautiful as Reo. He thought.
The florist's eyebrows lifted in surprise. "For your parents? Or maybe friends?" she asked, intrigued by his choice.
Nagi’s expression softened, his voice quieter now. “Uh... actually, it’s for my partner.”
The florist’s eyes widened in delight, clearly touched by his words.”'How sweet of you!” she said, her voice warm and kind.”I’ll help you pick the perfect flowers for your special someone.”
She started showing him various blooms, explaining the meanings behind each one. "These lilies symbolize purity and commitment, and these roses, of course, stand for love," she said, her excitement growing as she helped Nagi choose.
Curious, she asked, "So, what’s your partner like?"
Nagi's expression turned gentle, his thoughts drifting to the one he cherished. "He has the brightest smile, and whenever he walks, it’s like the sun is following him," he said, his voice filled with a tenderness that even the florist could sense.
The florist couldn't help but feel a little giddy. "Sounds like a perfect match for you," she said with a grin. "I think these roses will be just right for him, so you can show how much you love him.” She added as she picked out several stems and headed back to the table to arrange the flowers.”'I’ll make it quick, just wait a little bit. Feel free to take a look around while waiting, relax!” She hurried over to the table and got to work.
Nagi stood by the counter at the florist, glancing at his phone as he waited for his order. The clock on the screen showed 6 P.M. Then a message from Reo popped up. He fastly checked the message. It was a photo of their dining table, neatly set and simply decorated for their dinner that evening.
A subtle warmth spread through Nagi’s chest as he stared at the picture. He felt a wave of affection wash over him. He wanted nothing more than to be home, it made him want to be home even faster, to hold his lover close.
Reo’s message read, "Waiting for you to be back!" Nagi typed a quick reply: "On my way." Satisfied, he exited the chat and opened a game, letting the familiar motions occupy him until the florist called his name.
“Thank you for coming! Have a wonderful evening,” the florist said warmly as they handed him the bouquet of Christmas roses.
Nagi gave a small nod in response, his thoughts drifting back to Reo as he left the store. The soft scent of roses lingered in the cool evening air. He imagined Reo’s face when he saw the flowers, the dinner waiting at home, and the quiet joy of sharing the evening together. Every step he took brought him closer to the person who made everything feel complete.
Nagi stepped through the door of the apartment they had shared since last year, a space built with tender love and unwavering faith. He hung up his coat and slipped off his shoes, letting the warmth of the room welcome him as anticipation bubbled within. He couldn’t wait to see his love—Reo.
"Reo, I’m home," Nagi said, his voice calm and steady. He kept the bouquet of flowers hidden behind his back as he walked into the kitchen.
"Sei, you're finally here!" Reo’s eyes lit up with joy, radiating warmth and happiness. He spun around, wiping his wet hands after tidying up the kitchen. The smell of something delicious filled the air, and the cozy warmth wrapped around the small room. "Did you get the cake I asked for?"
Nagi nodded and handed him a box of cake. "Here you go."
"Thank you, my treasure!" Reo’s smile stretched wide, and Nagi found himself wanting to capture that smile and keep it safe forever.
Reo noticed that Nagi was hiding something behind his back. "What are you hiding, love?" he asked, raising an eyebrow, a playful frown tugging at his lips.
Nagi didn’t say anything at first, but slowly, he revealed the bouquet of flowers.
Reo’s eyes softened, touched by the thoughtful gesture. "For me?" he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. The moment felt so tender and real, and Reo couldn’t help but be moved.
"Thank you," Reo whispered again, his voice full of gratitude. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Nagi, pulling him into a warm embrace. Nagi stood still for a moment, his expression unchanged, but he felt the comfort and affection in Reo’s touch. Slowly, he allowed himself to relax into the hug, the warmth of the moment settling between them.
Reo pulled back slightly, looking up at Nagi with soft eyes. "Let’s sit and eat, yeah?"
Nagi nodded and placed the bouquet of roses gently on the table. The bright red petals seemed to glow in the soft light, complementing the cozy warmth of the room. They sat down together at the small dining table, the light from the candles flickering softly, creating a peaceful, intimate atmosphere.
As they began to eat, the sound of quiet laughter and conversation filled the room, and the world outside seemed to fade away. It was a simple night, but in its simplicity, it felt like everything was just as it should be.
The dinner plates were cleared, and the warmth of their home lingered like a cozy blanket around them. Reo glanced out the window, his eyes lighting up at the sight of snow drifting down in gentle flurries. "Sei, let’s go out," he said suddenly, turning to Nagi with a hopeful smile.
Nagi, who had just sunk into the couch, gave him a questioning look. "Why? It’s freezing outside."
Reo tugged at his sleeve, his excitement undeterred. "I just want to see the lights... and maybe get some fresh air. Please?"
With a small sigh, Nagi relented. Moments later, bundled in coats and scarves, they stepped into the cold night, the bustling streets alive with Christmas cheer. Couples strolled hand-in-hand, children laughed as they played in the snow, and the faint sound of carolers filled the air.
The cold bit at their cheeks, and Reo rubbed his hands together, his breath visible in the frosty air. Nagi, ever sensitive to the chill, shoved his hands deep into his pockets. After a few minutes, Reo reached over, lacing their fingers together. "Here," he said, his voice soft but firm. "It’s warmer this way."
Nagi didn’t protest, though the warmth of Reo’s touch sent a strange, fluttering sensation through him. They walked together like that, their hands clasped, until they reached the town square where a towering Christmas tree stood in all its glory. Golden ornaments and shimmering lights adorned its branches, casting a magical glow over the crowd that had gathered to admire it.
Reo stopped, tilting his head back to take it all in. Snowflakes caught in his hair and settled on his coat, glistening like tiny crystals. Nagi watched him, mesmerized—not by the tree, but by Reo. The sight of him, framed by the soft glow of the lights, took Nagi’s breath away.
Suddenly, Nagi pulled Reo’s hand closer, pressing it to his face. The cold from his cheeks contrasted with the warmth of Reo’s skin, and he closed his eyes, letting the sensation wash over him.
Beneath the gentle curve of Reo’s hand, Nagi felt his heart swell with longing. Their fingers intertwined as though commanding time to halt, trapping this perfect moment in amber. Nagi’s chest tightened at the thought. What if this fleeting instant could stretch into eternity? Was it selfish to wish for such a thing? Perhaps, but wasn’t love meant to be selfish, too?
Nagi holds Reo's hand tightly, resting it beneath his chin and he dreams of eternity—of staying like this, forever entwined, then he whispers to the god ‘God, is it alright if this is what I devote for?’
“Reo,” Nagi called softly, his voice tinged with affection. He tilted his head and placed a featherlight kiss on the hand that cradled his face. Reo shivered at the gentle touch, his skin tinged with a faint blush that crept up his neck and behind his ears. His breath hitched as Nagi's affection left him utterly undone.
Reo hummed in response, resonating with the warmth between them. He lifted his gaze, meeting Nagi’s. His eyes carried a softness that seemed to melt away Nagi’s icy exterior. That warmth is so tender, so unconditional, setting Nagi’s frozen heart ablaze.
Nagi gazed intently at Reo, Nagi took the time to admire Reo’s features: from the snowflakes caught in his hair to his flawless, the gentle curve of his lips, always poised between a smile and a laugh, as though the world was a secret he couldn’t wait to share. His eyes brimmed with love, so deep it felt as if Nagi might drown in those dark pupils at any moment. The soft lavender of his hair fell effortlessly, catching the light frozen in time, framing a face so striking it felt almost surreal. He took in every detail, every nuance, devouring the sight of Mikage Reo with his own silent reverence.
Reaching out, Nagi brushed the snow from Reo’s hair, tucking aside the long strands that veiled his cheek. In that fleeting moment, he dreamed of becoming the snow itself. Nestled in Reo’s embrace, a perfect harmony against the soft lavender of Reo’s coat.
Reo shivered slightly under Nagi’s touch, his cheeks faintly dusted with pink. His gaze met Nagi’s, unwavering and full of unspoken answers to the words buried deep within Nagi’s heart. A small, delicate smile graced Reo’s lips. So genuine, so radiant, it felt almost sacred.
There was a glow about him, a warmth that melted the edges of the cold night, as if he carried the sun in his very being. Even the snow seemed reluctant to settle, instead adorning him like scattered jewels, adding to the ethereal beauty that Nagi couldn’t take his eyes off of. He wasn’t just beautiful—he was breathtaking, a vision that made Nagi’s heart ache with quiet awe.
Nagi’s voice broke the silence, low and deliberate.“The snow is white, and you look perfect in white, like you were made to belong with it.”
Like you belong to me.
He said, his words a quiet confession. “So today, tomorrow, and every day after, I want to see more of you in it, whether it’s that cozy sweater you always wear, the snowflakes melting on your skin, or the wedding suit I’ve always dreamed of seeing you in. But honestly, you look beautiful in anything.”
Reo’s cheeks flushed a deep pink, and the warmth in his chest spread all the way to his fingertips. He tightened his grip on Nagi’s hand, smiling softly. “Sei... you’re unbelievable,” he whispered, his voice full of affection.
His words lingered in the air, as delicate as the snowflakes outside. Closing his eyes, Nagi leaned in, brushing his nose against Reo’s. It was a silent promise, a testament to everything he couldn’t yet say but desperately wanted to.
And for that moment, nothing else mattered but them.
