Work Text:
Tommy rolled over and snuggled closer to his husband. Running his hand over his belly. Feeling a more prominent bump there than the night before.
“Please, don’t touch me.” Evan grumbled into his pillow. “I am not trying to be a dick, babe. But everything hurts.”
Tommy chuckled and removed his hands from his husbands body. “So I guess the craving for me is gone?” Tommy said a little sadly.
“No. It’s still there. And god do I need you right now, It just hurts.” Tommy heard the tears in Evan’s voice and rose from the bed and rushed to the other side. Gently moving Evan’s legs so he could sit on the bed.
“Hey, no baby don’t cry. We’ll talk to Doctor Hall today at your appointment. I’m sorry it hurts. Do you want to try a warm bath?”
Evan nodded his head, and Tommy went and drew him a bath, pouring in Evan’s lavender and vanilla bath salts. Making sure it wasn’t too hot. “Come on baby. It’s ready. Do you need help?” Tommy asked not wanting to overstep his bounds.
“Yes, please.” Evan almost whined. And Tommy slowly helped him up from the bed. Evan leaned into Tommy and whimpered “Ow” as he rested his forehead on Tommy’s shoulder.
Tommy stood with him, running his hand soothingly up and down Evan’s back. “It’s okay, baby. I’ve got you. You’re okay.” Once Evan stood up again and nodded. Tommy slowly supported as much of Evan’s weight as he could and walked him into the bathroom, helping him to climb in and lower down into the tub.
Evan sighed and let out a small cry. “Thank you.” Evan said and grabbed Tommy’s hand, pulling him down for a kiss. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be so mean before.”
“Thank you. But you don’t have anything to apologize for Evan.” Tommy smiled and kissed Evan again. “I am going to go get Evie up and ready. You relax. Call me if you need me. And don’t try to get out of this tub by yourself.” Tommy gave Evan a pointed look and Evan acquiesced.
“Okay. I’ll call when I need you.”
Tommy sat next to Evan and held his hand as they waited for Doctor Hall. “You, okay baby?” Tommy checked in as Evan whimpered again.
Evan shook his head, and Tommy wiped a tear that was rolling down Evan’s face. “Hurts.” He cried.
“I know baby. I know. I’m sorry. Let me go get Doctor Hall.” Tommy stood and moved toward the door, but Evan wouldn’t let him go far.
“No. Please just stay with me.” Evan cried and Tommy sat back down.
“I’m not going anywhere baby.”
Tommy looked up as a knock landed on the door and Doctor Hall came in. “Hello, how are we doing today Dad… Buck, what’s going on?”
“He says his entire body hurts. Could barely stand being touched this morning.”
“Okay, it’s concerning. Let’s start with the ultrasound, see if we can find any obvious reasons for pain, okay?” Evan nodded his head and looked at the screen the doctor pulled up beside his bed.
It felt like forever before Doctor Hall finally spoke up, and when she did it was a very surprised “Oh, well hi there.”
Tommy looked down at Evan and Evan looked back at Tommy. “U-uh, w-what’s going on?” Evan stammered out.
“Well, daddies, Let me introduce you to Baby B.” She said pointing to the screen with her finger.
“B-baby B?” both men asked in unison.
Doctor Hall smiled and moved the wand. “Yes. Here. There they both are. Baby A and B. You’re having twins. That may explain the aches and pains.”
“What do you mean?” Tommy asked.
“At sixteen weeks pregnant with twins, total body aches are most likely caused by the rapid expansion of your uterus due to carrying multiple babies, which puts pressure on your muscles and ligaments, leading to common pregnancy pains like round ligament pain, backache, and joint discomfort, all amplified by the increased hormonal changes.” Doctor Hall explained. Tommy looked at Evan and smiled. Squeezing the hand that he held tightly.
“Twins.” Tommy whispered. “Merry belated Christmas, baby.” Evan laughed and pulled Tommy down for a quick kiss before he whined.
“Owe. I just wish the ache would stop.”
“It won’t last long. It usually doesn’t persist. It may come and go. You could wake up tomorrow and it won’t hurt at all. I don’t recommend taking anything, I know there are things that are safe during pregnancy. I just tend to steer away from them.”
“Yeah, don’t have to worry there. I’m not big on taking anything.”
“He won’t even take ibuprofen for a headache sometimes.”
“Well, take warm baths. Us a heat pad. Let’s manage it with alternative options first.” Doctor Hall smiled and looked over at them both.
“Do you want to know the gender?” She asked. Tommy looked at Evan and smiled.
“You can tell this early? I thought we had a few more weeks until we could get that.” Evan said, surprise lacing his voice.
“Usually we’ll do an anatomy scan between eighteen and twenty-two weeks. But it’s not hard to see at sixteen weeks.”
“Yeah, okay. Let’s find out. I think this pregnancy has given us enough surprises. Let’s take this one back, no surprises later. But keep it between us?”
“Absolutely. Nobody else needs to know until they’re born.” Tommy smiled and Evan turned and nodded to the doctor.
Doctor Hall moved the wand around Evan’s belly, taking different pictures of both babies as she went. Smiling when she found what she was searching for on both. “Well, congratulations guys, you’re having girls.”
Evan’s eyes grew wide. “Two more girls?”
Tommy laughed and rested his forehead on Evan’s shoulder. “Lucy said we’d make cute girl dads.”
“I mean yeah, but three girls. Wow. That’s… insane Tommy.”
“Sorry, I didn’t realize I was full of girls. It’s ironic don’t you think?”
“Yeah, Kinsey six over here has given me three girls.” Tommy laughed out loud and kissed Evan.
“I’ll try harder for a boy next time baby.”
“Yeah, and here I was hoping this would be it. We’d get the boy, guess I’m glad I like you enough to keep doing this with you.” Evan laughed a little and Tommy joined in.
Doctor Hall concluded the appointment and printed out pictures of their baby girls.
“I’m going to send this one to everyone. What do you think babe?” Evan asked once they were in the car and headed to go pick up Evie.
“Hell yeah. Put something like. ‘Oops. Here comes double trouble.”
Evan laughed. “Yes! That’s perfect.”
Evan/Buck- ‘Oops… Here comes Double Trouble’
Eddie- ‘Bro! you gotta calm it down there, Tommy’
Howie/Chim- ‘No way. Congratulations.’
Hen- ‘Boy, are you two in for some fun. Three under five? Good luck my friends.’
Maddie- Evan, Shut up! Are you serious! What are they? Please tell me! Aunti Maddie needs to buy so many presents.’
Howie/Chim- ‘Do not tell her. Uncle Chim’s wallet cannot handle this’
Maddie- ‘Shut up Uncle Chim’
Bobby- ‘Proud papa’
Evan smiled as the replies started coming in. Reading them out to Tommy. “Athena says, that’s not double trouble, that’s double the love.”
“Well, she’s not wrong.” Tommy laced his fingers with Evan’s and smiled. “I love you; Evan. Thank you for giving me the type of love that will last a thousand lifetimes.” He said as he parked outside of Howie and Maddie’s house.
