“Hinata-kun stopped here with me instead of walking out. I wondered if it was good luck for a moment, but bad luck for him, but then I remembered Hinata-kun said he decorated the restaurant himself so he must know. Which means maybe he’s doing it on purpose. Is that it? Maybe it’s selfish, but…I want it to be,” Nagito says, in a voice that lowers like he’s breathless, staring intensely at Hajime. Hajime doesn’t even think he’s blinking, and it has all his attention, along with the pounding of his own heart.
Then, Hajime feels Nagito’s hand, soft as if hesitant and yet adamant as if desperate for whatever it is he’s asking for to be true, come up and grasp his wrist gently.
Hajime suddenly feels as if Nagito is far too close, speaking with far too much thickness of intensity, and he can feel himself realizing what Nagito is aiming for even before he can fully understand.
Alternatively: Hajime and Nagito have been dancing around each other since they woke up. So when they decide to celebrate Christmas by doing secret santa this year, Hajime thinks this is his chance to show Nagito how he feels. However, as usual, Hajime doesn't know that Nagito has a plan of his own, and things don't go like he expects.
