Marik and Yami Bakura had a flirty, battle-focused relationship, though it wasn’t deeply romantic. Yami Bakura, now dead, used to harm Ryou’s body since he couldn’t feel the pain himself, leaving Ryou to suffer. Marik often helped him after these incidents and is skilled at treating wounds, helps him once again after Ryou doesn’t asnwer his calls and decides he needs to take matters into his own hands.
