A bed for two

Summary:

Skeppy silently inserted the keycard and opened the door, moving to allow Bad inside.

With a confused expression, Bad passed beside him and entered the room.

His feet stopped when he finally noticed that tiny detail Skeppy had refused to mention.

There was only one bed in the room.

Or: Bad and Skeppy were on a roadtrip and stop at a hotel to rest for the night. Lucky for them, the only room available has a single bed.

Work Text:

It was late into the night when Bad and Skeppy finally pulled into the parking lot of a hotel.

You see, the two men had gone out on a road trip around the US to end up in  California, but they had forgotten to book a hotel to rest in while they were on their way.

How convenient.

This left them scrambling for the nearest hotel around them to rest for the night and freshen up for the coming day.

After a few hours, they finally spotted one that claimed to have vacant rooms as all others were completely booked.

Why did they choose to travel when everyone else was also on holidays? Who knows.

They urgently pulled into the packed parking lot, parked their car and speed-walked towards the entrance, their luggage forgotten in the trunk.

This was their only shot at rest.

Skeppy burst through the doors and ran towards the front desk.

“Is there a vacant room for two??” He asked out of breath, Bad barely breathing as he caught up to him.

“Yes… there is,” the lady responded after a moment, giving the two men a weird look.

“YES- Oh my God,” Skeppy muttered, taking deep breaths to calm down his racing heart from running.

He looked at Bad and suggested, “I’ll take care of booking while you get our stuff, ‘kay?”

“Mhm,” Bad nodded, stopping to properly catch his breath before exiting the building.

“So, a room for two, correct?” The lady confirmed, earning a nod from Skeppy.

She looked through the monitor in front of her, switching between clicking on the mouse and typing on the keyboard.

The woman hummed, “We only have a King Standard room available, is that okay?”

“Huh?- What does that mean?” Skeppy asked with a yawn. He already felt tiredness taking over him so his mind didn't feel as sharp as usual.

“It means it only has one king-sized bed. Is that okay?” She explained casually.

Skeppy’s scattered brain seemed to stop as soon as he heard that.

One bed?

Between… him and Bad?

“Uh- is there another room available?” He felt obligated to ask, feeling his ears warming up for some reason.

“I’m afraid not. It’s the only room we have, sir,” she responded, taking a sip of a coffee cup next to her.

Skeppy grew quiet as he began thinking.

Both of them have never… slept in the same bed before. Sharing a hotel room between the two was fine, but… a bed?

And… if they don't take it, they’ll never find another hotel with free rooms.

Yeah, and they just wanna rest… because they’re so tired… and it's so late… and surely having Bad next to him would feel rather cozy as they huddle together for warmth-

Skeppy stopped his thoughts.

What.

Okay, fuck it- whatever.

“Okay, I’ll- I’ll take it,” he responded after a moment, scratching the back of his head.

The lady nodded, clicking on the computer and grabbing two cards.

He paid for the room and he was handed his keycards just as Bad arrived with their bags.

Room 210.

“Have a nice night,” the woman finished, pulling up her phone.

“Oh, just in time I see,” Bad chimed with a smile, causing Skeppy’s stomach to flip.

He suddenly felt extremely nervous about the situation he was in.

Does he tell Bad? Does he wait until he finds out? WHAT THE HELL IS HE SUPPOSED TO DO??

“Yeah, lucky you..!” Skeppy exclaimed with tinted nervousness.

“C’mon, let’s go rest. What room are we in?” Bad asked, moving right next to Skeppy.

Skeppy felt his hands trembling.

“Uhh- room 210.”

“Great, let’s take the elevator,” Bad suggested. Skeppy could only nod.

The ride up was spent in a comfortable silence in Bad's opinion.

It was very awkward in Skeppy’s opinion.

However, Bad knew his Skeppy, and he knew when something was bothering him.

That, and he was also quite good at analyzing body language, and Skeppy’s body language screamed that something was wrong.

“You okay?” Bad asked softly after a second, “You seem… tense.”

“Oh!- Uh- Well- Yeah I mean everything’s okay- But- Well…”

The elevator dinged and the doors opened. They began walking towards their room.

“Yeah? What's up?” Bad asked lightly, feeling concerned for his best friend.

“Okay- Well- You see, our room…” Skeppy couldn't finish the sentence.

“What about our room?” Bad tried asking as neutrally as possible. He began feeling a little nervous himself.

What could be so wrong about their room that had Skeppy this nervous about it?

“Uh- Well…” He muttered, as they approached the room.

Skeppy silently inserted the keycard and opened the door, moving to allow Bad inside.

With a confused expression, Bad passed beside him and entered the room.

His feet stopped when he finally noticed that tiny detail Skeppy had refused to mention.

There was only one bed in the room.

Bad stood for a second, blinking.

He looked back at Skeppy, and he could only scratch the back of his head, avoiding his gaze.

“Yeah… It was the only room they had, so…” He attempted to explain.

Bad was quiet until he took a deep breath. “We… we can make it work.”

The two men entered the room, Skeppy shutting the door behind them. Bad placed their bags on the floor.

“Uh… Which side do you want?” The older of the two asked, “So I can, put your bag on that side…”

Skeppy felt the air thick with tension.

Bad tried to act as casual as possible to reduce Skeppy’s stress.

“Oh- I can take the left side, since I know you like being closer to the bathroom,” Skeppy responded, starting to feel worse every second that passed by.

“Okay,” Bad replied, grabbing Skeppy’s bag and placing it beside the windowed wall.

“Thanks,” Skeppy muttered as Bad placed his own bag on his side.

“No problem,” Bad replied kindly.

However, he still frowned at seeing the obvious upset expression on his best friend’s face.

“You know it's not your fault, right?” Bad tried reasoning, “This- I mean, it was bound to happen at some point.”

“I mean, I guess but-” Skeppy stopped himself. He slapped his face, “I- I didn't consult with you first. God- I should've done that.”

He continued, “I… I know you like your space and I feel like… sharing a bed might- I don't know… I’m sorry.”

“Geppy, look- it’s okay. Look, although both of us would’ve preferred having separate beds,” Bad said (lied), “It’s still better to have an opportunity to rest. I appreciate you caring about how I felt, but in this situation, I don't think it matters much.”

Skeppy didn't reply. He just kept looking at the ground.

Bad felt the urge to comfort him, so he did.

He walked in front of Skeppy and grabbed him gently from his shoulders.

“Don’t beat yourself up over this, Sgeppy,” Skeppy looked up at him, so he continued, “Let’s just change into our pajamas and go to sleep, okay?”

The man nodded, “Okay, okay. I’ll let it go.”

Bad beamed, letting go of him, “Good. …Now I call dibs on the bathroom ‘cuz you take forever.”

“What?! No I don't!” Skeppy protested as Bad got down to his bag and opened it.

“Yes you do!” Bad replied back, getting ahold of his pajamas and toiletry bag, “Now it’s your turn to wait.”

He walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind him, causing Skeppy to roll his eyes with a smile.

“Whatever, dude.”

With his free time, he took off his shoes and pulled the comforter off its tight fold, sitting down and finding a comfortable position on his side of the bed.

He still couldn't believe he was about to share the bed with his best friend. The thought just couldn't leave his mind.

Like, will they place pillows between them to avoid any awkward situations? Would they… cuddle?- Because- they’ve done it before but never… But what if they did?

Ok, nope- Now he was thinking too much.

So, to distract his racing thoughts, he decided to scroll through his phone. Like tweets, watch reels, anything to keep his mind occupied.

After a few minutes, the bathroom door unlocked and Bad walked into their room, toiletry bag in hand.

“Finally,” Skeppy teased, getting up from the bed, “And you said I took my time.”

“Oh whatever, muffin,” Bad retorted, storing his bag inside his suitcase.

As Skeppy grabbed his own pair of pajamas, he couldn’t help but glance at his friend every few seconds.

He still wasn't used to seeing Bad in his pajamas. It was a rare sight to see in their friendship. Still, it made him look… nice. Cozier, if he could place a word on it.

With a suppressed smile, Skeppy got inside their shared bathroom and began changing his clothes.

Bad didn't know how to feel about the current predicament he was in with Skeppy.

He feels like his usual self would be bothered by the turn of events… but right now, he weirdly wasn't?

Don't get him wrong, if he had to share a bed with any of his other friends, he would feel rightfully uncomfortable. But, of course, with Skeppy, it was different.

He didn't feel… upset by the situation. It didn't bother him on a personal level.

And that definitely has nothing to do with the fact that he only likes physical affection from Skeppy. Nope.

Yeah, and why would that matter, anyways? It's not like they’ll… but if it gets cold… they could…

Gosh- Stop thinking right now!

With a sigh, he got the TV remote from the office desk and turned it on, switching between channels to find something remotely entertaining.

He found a random series playing, and with the new background noise, he began pulling more stuff from his bag as he got ready for bed.

Bad plugged his charger into the wall and connected it to his phone. Gently, he took off the necklace Skeppy had given him long ago and placed it beside his phone on the bedside table, making sure to not get it tangled.

He couldn’t help but look fondly at the jewelry.

He took off his glasses and placed them on top of his phone and pulled off the comforter to climb inside the bed.

He shivered a little.

The bathroom door clicked, and Skeppy waltzed out of the bathroom, turning off the light and closing the door behind him.

Skeppy looked nice in his pajamas, Bad thought. They made him look cuddly.

“Hey, could you also turn off the room lights?” He asked softly, feeling sleepier as more time passed.

Skeppy nodded and silently followed Bad’s request, turning off the lights.

Now the only lights in the room were the TV screen and their bedside lamps.

It was quiet when both men were finally in bed together. Bad fiddling with the remote control and Skeppy plugging his phone to its charger.

“Umm, I guess we should go to bed now?” Skeppy asked, scratching the back of his head.

There was still tension, to say the least.

“Yeah, um, we should- uh, do that,” Bad replied, turning off the TV and placing the remote on his table.

They both got more comfortable, rearranging their pillows and shifting the comforter.

The two men hesitated as they turned off their bedside lamps, leaving the room pitch black.

“Good night, Bad,” Skeppy muttered as he slowly turned to his side, his back facing his friend.

“Good night, Geppy,” Bad replied quietly, doing the same.

Falling asleep ended up being a harder task than Bad thought it’d be.

He wanted to turn to his other side, but it made him feel weird moving to face Skeppy.

He just- like, would that be weird?

Surely not, it doesn't mean anything…

Curse his brain and his stupid thoughts.

He closed his eyes and pushed all thoughts aside, hoping to fall asleep any minute now.

A few minutes went by.

Skeppy suddenly shifted, and Bad swiftly felt something press against his back.

Both their backs were lightly pressed together now.

Bad’s eyes widened a little.

Okay, this is fine… Skeppy’s probably asleep and moved by accident.

A soft giggle escaped the younger’s lips.

“Your back is warm…” he muttered quietly, moving to press his back further against Bad’s.

“Uhm… Thank you?” Bad mumbled in reply, feeling his neck warming up.

Why did this feel weirdly intimate?

“Mhm,” Skeppy hummed before going quiet again.

Bad blinked. What was that all about?

He stood still for a moment, then closed his eyes.

He tried falling asleep, but of course, his body now begged for a new sleeping position.

Muffins- Does he move to his other side?

He thought for a moment.

He’ll just pretend to be asleep, it’s fine.

After a few seconds of consideration, he moved. He ended up face-to-face with Skeppy’s back.

This is fine.

Bad suddenly heard a quiet whine from Skeppy in response.

“Why did you-” Skeppy started with a shiver, moving to push himself further against Bad, “move…”

“Wait- Sgeppy-” Bad tried warning, but it was too late.

“Mm?” Skeppy was now pressed against Bad’s chest. The warmth and comfort radiating from him was palpable.

Cozy muffin, he thought for a moment.

“I’m,” Bad mumbled, feeling his face quickly heating up, “I- I’m facing you…”

“Oh… sorry,” Skeppy apologized, hinting that he was going to move.

And, instead of shifting away, he decided to turn and face his best friend to fix the problem.

“There…” Skeppy muttered, closing his eyes. One of his hands lightly landed on top of Bad’s.

Bad could only stare.

What the fudge was going on with his Skeppy?

He… The tiredness of his friend was probably causing his weird behavior.

But, he didn’t mind tired Skeppy.

Tired Skeppy proved to be quite cute.

And almost as if he read his thoughts, Skeppy sleepily got his attention.

“Bad?” He asked quietly, “Are you still awake?”

Bad opened his eyes to find Skeppy staring at him with the softest gaze he had ever seen from him.

“Yeah, Geppy,” he replied after a moment. He felt his best friend’s hand hold on to his a little bit tighter.

“Can you… I mean, could we… like,” Skeppy stopped for a second, “hug?”

Bad’s heart skipped a beat.

He couldn’t help but look fondly at his best friend.

“Sure, you silly muffin. C’mere,” he mumbled, opening his arms for him.

Skeppy immediately moved and wrapped his arms around him.

They moved to find a comfortable position for both of them. Skeppy on top of Bad with his head on his chest.

Skeppy let out a long sigh. He felt a weight being lifted off his shoulders.

Bad could only try and suppress the smile that was forming on his face.

He really liked being able to hold his Skeppy like this.

Bad chuckled, “Is this okay?” With his free hand, he began passing his fingers through Skeppy’s hair.

Skeppy melted at the feeling.

“Yeah…” He managed to croak out, snuggling further into his friend. “You’re very warm.”

Bad hummed, “Yeah, I actually run hotter than the average person.”

“Really?” Skeppy asked in surprise, lifting his head to look at Bad.

Bad nodded, ruffling Skeppy’s hair affectionately, “Yup.”

Skeppy giggled, lowering his head, “Lucky me.”

“Lucky you.”

A nice, comfortable silence followed.

Bad reveled in getting to cuddle his favorite person until the coming morning, holding him gently.

He knew that only with Skeppy, he understood the term of being “touch-starved” and just feeling the need to be physically close to someone. Not that he minded, though.

On the other hand, Skeppy relished in knowing that he was the only person Bad felt comfortable enough with to be in such a vulnerable situation.

He could feel Bad’s affection radiating towards him, in the form of soft squeezes and tender back rubs.

They both closed his eyes, and sleep quickly overtook them.

A loud alarm blared throughout the hotel room, startling its two guests awake.

With a groan, Skeppy got off his best friend to grab his phone and turn off the alarm.

Bad shivered at the newfound coldness surrounding him.

“Ghuh?” He mumbled before Skeppy moved back to their original position, bringing back his amazing warmth.

An accepting hum escaped him, and he gently wrapped his arms around his muffin again.

Skeppy could only chuckle, rolling his eyes with a smile.

“It’s 7 am, Bad. We should start getting ready,” the younger of the two suggested.

Bad scrunched his face in disagreement, “Mmh… For,” he let out a yawn, “What?”

“For the road trip we’re still on? Do you not remember?” Skeppy questioned casually, looking fondly at him.

Bad whined, “Nooo, I don't want tooo.”

Skeppy smirked, “Fine, I’ll shower first. But you better be fully awake by the time I’m done, okay?”

“...No,” Bad replied quietly, “You’re staying… here.”

Bad tightened his hold on his Skeppy and shifted to his side, securing him in a spoon cuddle.

“Wha- Bad!” He retorted with a suppressed smile, playfully squirming under his hold, “Let me go!”

“No,” Bad declared with a smile forming on his own lips, “You’re mine now.”

Skeppy felt his stupid heart fluttering.

He sighed dramatically, “Ok, fine. I guess we can stay here for a little bit…”

A few minutes went by.

Bad adoringly held his favorite muffin while Skeppy curled close to him.

“Ok- We should really start getting ready now,” Skeppy mumbled after a moment.

Bad whined sadly, but nodded.

“Fine…”

They showered, changed into their clothes and back into the road they went.

There was a noticeable change in their attitude. Now, neither of them even hesitated to show physical affection towards each other.

Their feet were hooked as they ate in yet another McDonald’s, hugs lingered for just a moment too long and their hands casually found themselves linked as they stopped for a walk.

And as Bad was occupied getting their gas tank filled, Skeppy didn't hesitate to call the hotel they were going to stay at for the coming night.

“Hello. Can I change my reservation from a room with two beds to a room with one bed?”
