Work Text:
A table with food on it stood in the room, the walls painted in white and cream.
Three people were sitting on chairs, but only one was eating. The other two exchanged glances before looking at the man who had brought them here.
‘Gi-hun,’ Junho’s eyes seemed to say.
‘Junho!’ Gi-hun’s eyebrows shot up in response.
‘Your brother is crazy,’ Gi-hun gestured with his brow.
‘I know... but look at yourself. I guess... welcome to the family.’
Gi-hun didn’t seem pleased by that. ‘Family? Ah, hell no. He killed all my friends, and now I’m supposed to be part of his family? No way.’
‘Wow, thanks,’ Junho responded sarcastically. After all, he was the younger brother of that man.
‘Do you think he’ll let us out?’ Junho gestured with his hands.
‘He can’t keep us here forever, right?’ Gi-hun’s eyes stared straight ahead before rolling to the side.
‘Maybe he’ll get tired of me sooner or later,’ Gi-hun gestured again, though it seemed oddly hopeful.
‘I don’t think he’ll let you—or me—go,’ Junho said, surprised at how different his brother seemed. Yet, every now and then, that soft tone in his voice reminded Junho that this was still his brother.
‘You’re his brother, not me,’ Gi-hun countered.
‘Oh, don’t worry—you’re his partner,’ Junho teased.
‘No—’ Gi-hun started, but Junho cut him off.
‘You don’t see how my brother looks at you? I swear he looks at you like he wants to keep you locked in his room forever.’
‘Isn’t that what’s happening to you?’ Gi-hun shot back.
‘Oh, and you.’
‘N—’
‘Isn’t he keeping you in his bed? Sure, I was kept there too, but hey, at least I’ve moved to the next room.’
‘Next room? Please. The door to your room can be opened from the bedroom.’
‘Right... let’s just hope he doesn’t make me watch or hear whatever happens.’
‘Junho!’ Gi-hun snapped, his face reddening.
“What are you two doing?” In-ho asked, noticing Junho and Gi-hun making gestures he couldn’t understand. Still, he felt glad to see them getting along.
“Nothing!” they both said at the same time, looking at each other before making more gestures that left In-ho puzzled.
The rest of the dinner passed in silence, neither Junho nor Gi-hun saying a word. In-ho guessed they were awkward; after all, it was only their second day here on the island with him. He couldn’t blame them for that.
He already imagined the coming years—just the three of them. It felt right. After all, wasn’t the most important thing in life family and love?
He had both: Junho and Gi-hun.
He wondered how they would celebrate Christmas. It would be their first Christmas together.
He caught Junho and Gi-hun making gestures and funny faces at each other again. Both had such adorable expressions, and their gestures were genuinely amusing.
“Um, not to ruin your brotherly time, but when can I go home… or get shot?” Gi-hun asked.
In-ho looked at him and said, “What are you talking about, love? We’re family. Of course, you’re staying here.”
Junho burst out laughing, pointing at Gi-hun, who seemed to still be processing the statement.
“I-Inho... I have a daughter, you know—”
“Well, we can give her a gift card for Christmas,” In-ho replied.
“...”
And Junho had burst of laughting and slipped from his chair.
