Work Text:
You sat on the sidelines, next to a snake sinner who looked like he was wearing an old-fashioned military uniform. It was out of style and surely not comfortable yet, somehow; he looked oddly charming in it. He had an odd way of capturing your attention, drawing your eye from across rooms without even trying.
You’d seen him around often enough, not that you had gotten a chance to get to know him. He just seemed to always be there, in the distance, catching your eye. He’d make you notice him with some awkward yet charming statement, then be gone.
You hadn’t given him much thought, in all honesty. Yet, as you both sat drinking, you couldn’t help but laugh at his silly jokes. He was anxious, awkward- something you expected to lessen as the minutes ticked on and yet, it didn’t. That was the very thing about him that put you at ease, though you’d be double damned if anyone asked you to explain why.
“It’s almost midnight,” you said, words slurred. Maybe it was the shots you had been putting back with the snake sinner that had you so drawn to him. “Don’t you have someone to go kiss?”
“Oh,” the snake laughed, “I think sssssshesss got ssssomeone elssss to kissss tonight.”
“Does she even know you like her?” You leaned into his side as the both of you looked across the dance floor at the pink-haired cyclops. Her hips swayed to the music, high soft pink pony tail matching the movement. She seemed to be engrossed in the sinner she was facing, though you couldn’t say if it was a man or woman. The sinner was equally entrapped with her as they leaned into her embrace, seeming to enjoy the feeling of her arms draped around his neck.
“I don’t know.” Pentious sounded so defeated, it felt like a stab to your heart. While you were known for not giving a shit about a lot of things, you were always a sucker for a love story.
“Let’s give her something to notice you over,” you offered as the crowd began counting down from ten, the seconds each bringing the year closer to coming to a close.
“What do you meansss?” Pentious asked.
You leaned over from your stool, draping yourself into what passed as the snake’s lap. You wrapped your arms around his neck as the seconds passed down, mimicking the way Cherri was holding her lover of the night.
He looked at you with wide eyes, not sure where to put his hands. Fragments of words sputtered from his lips. You found his awkward, timid nature rather cute. It wasn’t often you ran into someone who was so sexually timid in hell.
As the crowd erupted into a loud roar of “Happy New Year!” you pulled him into into you, kissing him hard as people around you all cheered, kissing thier partners.
In the distance, one eye watched you as she kissed her own random selection for the night. She had noticed her snakey rival’s affections but hardly given him any thought. It wasn’t as if he was going anywhere…
Except, what if he was?
