“Are you warm enough, Luce?” Lockwood asked from the other side of the iron circle.
I nodded, hugging my knees to my chest.
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
A moment later I felt his hand on my shoulder. He’d removed his scarf and was holding it out.
“You don’t need to…”
But he was already looping it over my head.
“There,” he said, his dark eyes holding mine as I held my breath.
“Thanks.”
He smiled and sat back.
I snuggled my face down into the soft fabric. It was still warm and smelled of him.
Together, we waited for our ghost.
