Chapter Text
Deep breath in through the nose.
Close your eyes.
Deep breath out.
And open them.
The world had never looked so beautiful, never looked so bright as it did today. Everything the sun shined down upon was so vibrant and radiant, everything so perfectly captured in a warm embrace. The grass still wet with Spring morning dew as it swayed in the gentle breeze, the water as it glistened in the nearby lake, and the birds as they sang what one could only hear as a congratulatory serenade.
Ruby could only smile as she looked out the window. She couldn’t ask for a better day to be married on.
She turned as she heard a knock on the door and the voice that followed it. “Ruby, it’s Weiss. Are you dressed? Can I come in?”
“Yeah, I’m done getting dressed.” answered Ruby. She felt a surge of warmth in her heart as she looked down at the suit Weiss had made for her. It was one of the many surges she had felt today already. The wool fabric Weiss used was soft as a cloud, and Ruby in particular loved the choice of the maroon lapel and notch as it popped against the black of the rest of her suit jacket, vest, pants, and tie, as well as against the white of her dress shirt.
Nothing less than perfectly tailored. Special order for her special day.
Weiss opened the door a moment later, dressed to the nines herself, clad in the maroon dress Ruby had chosen for her bridesmaid’s gowns. Her makeup was done to perfection. In fact, it was suspiciously perfect. Ruby could think of but one explanation.
“Weiss… did you do your own makeup?” Ruby asked, or more accurately accused considering she had asked Weiss to let the stylists take care of everything today.
“They weren't going to do it right!” barked Weiss. “I’m your maiden of honor. I’m not looking anything less than my best for you.”
“Weiss…”
“I let them braid my hair!” Weiss answered back after a brief pause, gesturing to her snow white hair, braided in a ponytail and decorated with a few dark purple carnations.
Ruby could only roll her eyes. “I guess that's something. How did Yang handle having her hair touched?”
“I thought she was going to crush the armrest of her chair a few times.” Weiss responded. “The stylist looked concerned for her life.”
Weiss and Ruby let out a chuckle together after a second or two. “So, what’s up?” said Ruby. “Need to talk to me about something?”
“I’m just giving the two minute warning so to speak.” answered Weiss with a smile. “They told me they just finished with Penny, and they asked me to make sure you were done. Blake and Yang will be here when it’s show time.”
“Did you see how Penny looked?” Ruby asked eagerly, blushing wildly as she imagined how beautiful Penny must be right now.
God she felt so lucky to marry someone like Penny.
“I did, but I’m not telling you anything. You’re just going to have to be patient.” Weiss answered, crossing her arms. “No spoilers.”
Ruby stuck out her tongue, making a loud Nyeh sound. To Ruby’s surprise, Weiss returned the gesture. She couldn’t remember another time Weiss joined her in her childish playfulness to this level. Another little wedding gift perhaps. The two chuckled after exchanging a few more immature gestures with their faces, mouths, and hands.
Ruby saw Weiss' eyes fall to her suit as the playfulness ended. Annoyance washed over the Schnee girl’s face. “Ugh, I still hate where I put that pocket. It’s a half inch too high.” Weiss said, lifting up a part of Ruby’s jacket.
“Weiss, it’s fine.”
“I just-”
“Weiss.” Ruby repeated, placing her hands on Weiss’ shoulders. “I love the suit. It’s perfect. Be happy with your work. And if you can’t do that, remember, I’m getting married today.” Ruby felt a little flutter in her heart when she said that. A part of her still couldn’t believe it. “And as a person getting married, I hereby order you to stop being silly.”
Weiss let out a cross between a sigh and a scoff. “Fine.” she grumbled.
Another few sudden knocks were heard on Ruby’s open room door. When she turned along with Weiss, Ruby saw her other two bridesmaids, her older sister Yang and her sister-in-law Blake. Both of them looked just as beautiful in their dresses as Weiss did in hers. Both girls' hair were similarly gorgeous, Yang’s long blonde hair styled in a beautifully braided ponytail similar to Weiss’ and decorated with a dark purple carnation, and Blake’s short, dark hair styled into an elegant, wavy bob, decorated with its own dark purple carnation.
Ruby noticed Blake looked a little sheepish as she stood in the doorway. “Sorry we don’t match.” Blake said, gesturing to her hair with her hand. “The stylist said I don’t have long enough hair for what Yang and Weiss have.”
“Oh I don’t care about that.” Ruby answered with a smile. “As long as I have all my sisters with me up there, that's all I need.” She added, looking around the room.
Blake let out an affectionate high pitched meep, placing her hands on her heart, curling her lips up in a smile as her eyes watered.
“Hey, hey.” Yang called out, carefully wiping away the welled tears in Blake’s eyes. “No crying yet. We’re not even at the altar. Geez.” she added with a chuckle.
“Well excuse me for finding love beautiful.” Blake answered with a pout.
Ruby let out a little chuckle of her own. A moment later, she felt her heart yet again fill with warmth. Blake and Yang, the rest of her bridal party, were in her room. “So uh… if you two are here, does that mean…” She couldn’t help but trail off nervously.
“Yup.” Yang said with a gentle nod and a warm smile. “It’s time to get you to the altar.”
Ruby felt her cheeks go a particularly rosy shade of red as she again looked around the room at her bridal party. With a deep breath and a confident smile, she let her party lead her to the door of the venue’s ceremony room, where Penny’s own bridal party and the wedding officiant, Pyrrha Nikos-Arc, were waiting.
