Summary
It's Ruby's first day working with her sister Yang at their auto-shop, Y&R Auto. Ruby woke up early that morning so Yang could introduce her to all of the people she didn't know yet that also owned or worked at the nearby shops. She expected to make a bunch of new friends, but what she didn't expect was to become completely infatuated, much in a way that she had never been before, by the daughter of the owner of the newly fully re-opened pet store, Polendina's Pets. As Ruby gets to know the girl, named Penny, better, she notices her feelings growing stronger and stronger everyday, and hopes that Penny feels the same.

On the day before the finals of the Vale Kingdom Regional Snowboarding Championship, Ruby Rose, one of the two finalists, decides to get some last minute warm-up in on the expert level slopes of Mt. Glen. While she, a proper snowboarding prodigy, was taking the competition seriously and wanted to win, she wouldn't be too heartbroken if she lost. She was more in it for the experience of competing rather than the glory, and potential fame that would come with it. After all, Ruby couldn't imagine a life of fame being better than the more simple life she had now: a life with a loving family, a job she was passionate about, and the best girlfriend she could ever ask for in Penny Polendina.
But when Ruby and Penny cross paths with her opponent in tomorrow's final, Cinder Fall, she finds new reason to become hungry for victory, and give Cinder what she has coming to her: defeat.

It was a Saturday in mid October, and Raven Branwen and Taiyang Xiao Long needed to take their 2-year-old daughter Yang to the doctor to get a few needed shots. Not wanting to leave Tai's 8-month pregnant wife, Summer Rose, alone, Tai and Raven, called Raven's twin brother, Qrow, so someone could be with Summer while they were out with Yang.
They would only be gone for a couple of hours, so surely Qrow could handle watching over a pregnant Summer for them, right?

Surrounded by her friends, family, and girlfriend, Ruby Rose happily enjoys her birthday party at an expensive Patch Island venue, courteously rented out for the night by the Schnee's as part of their gift to her. The venue held some of the best food that Ruby had ever eaten, and just as she finishes her dinner on this stormy night, thunder cracks and lightning strikes the cabin, temporarily cutting its power.
When the lights turn back on, her party goes from a happy celebration to a tragedy in a matter of a second. One of her friends had just been slain.
The look on Ruby's face was one of shock and sorrow, but on the inside, she was jumping for joy. The night's murder mystery game had begun.

With Sun and Ilia faithfully at her side, she take on this new challenge, which doubled as a distraction from her nerves, her nerves from Yang letting it slip that she wants Blake to meet her family. Everything was still all new between them, and Blake couldn't remember Yang saying she was out to her parents.
But she couldn't let that distract her. She had things to focus on today, and thinking about and meeting Yang's parents could wait until later, when she was more ready.
