Work Text:
Cyrus wanted seven delegates from each crew to get to Van Cortlandt Park. Cleon had to choose six of her Warriors to come with her.
Cochise, her oldest friend, her best soldier. Cleon wouldn’t dream of going to something this important without her. She knew Cochise would always be on her side. Of course they sometimes disagreed in private but in front of the Warriors they were a united front. As an ancient army medic, Cochise was always very useful to have around in case anyone needed first aid. Smart and reliable. Truth be told, Cochise was also the only one that asked to come with her to Cyrus' speech. Like Cleon, she wanted to know what would happen next.
Cowgirl, her jack of all trade. She might not have been the fastest, strongest or most diplomatic of the crew but she could do it all. Like Cochise, she would mostly follow orders without too much push back. A good balance for Ajax and Swan. Cowgirl was the most adaptable of the crew. Even if she sometimes lacks judgment, she could easily get herself out of the most complex situation. Plus Cowgirl was fun to be around (not that the others weren’t but Cowgirl just exude good vibes) which was very good for morals.
Fox, her lead scout. She might have been the youngest in the gang but she had proven her abilities times and times again. Fox was the best scout Cleon ever had. She was Cleon's eyes and ears. Cleon trusted her to lead the other scouts so of course she needed her to be fully aware of what was happening that night. Fox needed to know who was on their side. Cleon also wanted Fox to see Cyrus, to hear what she had to say, to see the future she would live in. Fox was the youngest, the future of the Warriors, she deserved to be present on the night peace became a reality.
Ajax, the enforcer, her left-hand man. Cleon didn't think she would need to use forces that night but Ajax was always good to have around. Ajax was brute force, probably her best fighter. The girl might be impulsive but she did have good instinct. Not only that, Ajax was the best to keep Cleon in check. Even if sometimes her openly discussing her orders were a pain in the ass, Cleon highly valued her opinions. Ajax was also one of her most loyal friends. She liked keeping Ajax close to her and maybe that night could show Ajax that violence wasn't always the answer.
Rembrandt, her one and only tagger. Gang activities outside their turf meant Rembrandt was part of the crew. Cleon was never worried about her, the girl was fast, she could probably outrun them all and knew not to pick a fight with people stronger than her. Rembrandt was always aware of her surroundings, she would probably have been a good scout if she wasn’t that good and quick at painting. She was also a quick thinker, maybe not book smart but she knew her way around street life.
Swan, her second in command. Swan was respected by her crew. She might not have the authority of Cleon, but Swan was wise and the others knew it and trusted her judgment most of the time. She would stay level headed in case of crisis. Usually, Swan would have stayed home, making sure that no shady business was going on in Cleon's absence but this time Cleon knew she needed to bring her. Swan had to see what Cyrus could do, that peace between the gang was a possibility and not a utopia. Cleon needed Swan to understand what they could do together. She needed Swan to stop being so afraid, to learn that not everything was out to get them.
Clearly that didn't work as planned.
They had lost Fox. Ajax was in jail. Cleon brought most of them there against their wishes. It was supposed to be the beginning of a new era, one where they wouldn't be alone against the cop. The Rogues had to come and fucked it up for everyone. Now Cyrus was gone, Cleon’s team was hurt and truce was precarious. But Cleon wouldn't let the dream Cyrus had go away like that. Peace was her only goal. For Cyrus. For Ajax. For Fox.
