A grin of satisfaction crossed Damian's face when they had finally trapped Nygma.
It had taken three and a half long weeks of all hands on board looking through clues and riddle to find him. Nygma had upped his game and Drake had estimated he'd been working on it for months if not years.
It was intricate, elaborate and pulled of to a higher execution than Damian thought the roughe capable. None the less, they had him.
Or so they thought.
A trap door. So obvious yet somehow they hadn't considered it.
Nygma scampered down the trap door and ran. Robin and Batman chased him, hot on his heels.
The basement led to stairs outside once again revealing the snowy, icy, bitter cold weather outside. The weather already had Tim (the immuno-compromised fool) but he wouldn't be taken down by it.
It was only by training and high grade gear that either vigilante wasn't slipping but Damian had no idea how Nygma was accomplishing such a feet.
A large frozen lake laid ahead of them. Nygma ran across with little hesitation. The ice seemed thick, and while he would never normally do this, it seemed relatively safe and so, Robin continued the chase.
"This way Robin." Batman demanded. There was a path around the lake but Nygma would get much further ahead if he took it.
"I'm taking a detour," Robin, proudly says running into the piercingly cold snow and slippy ice.
"Robin! No! Stay near me!" Batman yelled, but it was way too late he's already run off and was halfway across the lake.
As far as Damian was concerned, he had made the right choice. His evidence was a wringling, green clad imbecile that he had manage to wrestle to the icy ground.
He cuffed him in time for Batman to catch up. He let Batman take Nygma and looked up to see a clearly angry expression.
<span;>"That was dangerous! What were you thinking?" Batman reprimanded Robin for his reckless actions.
"No, it wasn't, and I caught Riddler!" Robin raises his voice, trying to equal his tone, unlike what he could do with his height.
"You ran over a lake! You could've drowned, Robin, and watch that tone."
Damian furrowed his brow. He was infuriated. Why couldnt Batman just admit Damians judgement was right. In anger, he ran away planing to get back to the cave and vent to Richard. In spite he ran over the same lake. Petty maybe, but he didn't care at this point.
Suddenly, he heard a cracked and then felt shocking ice cold water. He couldn't breathe or even get himself to swim. The water filled his lungs and he felt his body sink, frozen and shocked.
"Robin!" Batman felt his voice crack and his body flooded with adrenaline and fear.
He ran, ignoring his own advice and dived in after his son. He manage to drag the small boy back to the surface and collapsed on the ice.
"Nightwing, Hood. Robin fell through the ice." He lost his consciousness and just hoped Damian would be fine.
Damian cracked his eyes open only to be blinded. He tried again taking his time.
As he became more aware of his surroundings, he heard beating and felt a mask covering his mouth. Oxygen. Not his favourite.
Richard sat beside him, tired but entirely focused on Damian.
"Don't ever do that again." He leaned over and hugged damians shivering form.
Damian melted into the hug and embraced the warmth and love.
"I'm sorry." He tapped out in morse code on Richards back.
