Notes:

I know I just posted this, but the original title was trash (Prize Trick (First Steps)) and I just came up with something better. I don't particularly love this one either, but it's something.

Work Text:

Hunter just learned to walk, and based on how that was all the scouts could talk about, you would think that the Titan's spirit visited the Isles.

Frankly, Lucas was over it after the third day.

Unfortunately, Graham was too proud of Hunter's achievements, so he showed him off whenever it was possible - as well as appropriate, Lucas didn't know what he would do if he tried to show the child off to some visiting wealthy family, or Titan forbid, the Coven Heads. At least he knew not to do that, even if he was eyeing them with Hunter in his arms.

Everybody seemed to be fair game, however.

"Good morning." Darius greeted them with only a hint of curiosity. Ever since Graham took over Hunter's care, he bearly saw them. Now the scout was dutifully following the Golden Guard around.

There was a reason for that as well.

Belos advised him that now that the people are once again talking about Hunter - and of course, the Emperor would know about it, who doesn't at this point? - he should make an effort to be seen with the child more often. He also suggested taking him to his training, to familiarise the boy with it. Of course, Lucas nodded and gave the order to Graham and silently dreaded when he needed to be more hands-on with the creature masquerading as an adorable little boy.

"Mr. Deamonne, how are you?" Graham answered in turn, although he seemed oddly eager to have Darius show up. Lucas already was already rolling his eyes.

Hunter immediately turned to the witch and reached out a hand to him. After Graham, Darius was probably his favorite person.

Darius too seemed to have grown attached to him. Despite how little he saw him - unless he has been visiting him behind Lucas' back.

A shame. He thought he had an ally against whatever that was going on in the Castle.

"Well enough, thank you," he said with a polite nod, then turning his attention to Hunter. "And who do we have here? You are up early, Little Prince. Are you letting Graham sleep through the night?"

"Actually, we got up early to show you something," the scout said. "Isn't that right, Hunter?"

The boy only babbled.

"Oh, am I that special?" Darius joked.

Lucas was just about done with this.

"Alright, are you ready?" Graham talked to Hunter, although Lucas wondered how much the child understood. "Show Mr. Deamonne what you can do."

He then put Hunter down on the ground and waited for him to get his legs under him. Then he let him go but hovered with his hands close in case he fell. Hunter wobbled a little bit then, with uncertain steps, he made his way to Darius.

Darius watched with an amused smile.

Hunter toddled over and then found a hold of the witch's pants. Darius to avoid having his clothes creased reached down and picked the child up.

"Would you look at that, somebody is growing up so fast," Darius prized him.

Lucas mourned his mentee. He had fallen under the spell as well.

But, just to be fair, he allowed them an appropriate ten minutes to gush over the child before he interrupted and ushered Darius along for training. Baby or not, magical infatuation or not, they still had their job to do.

Notes:

Yeah, Lucas is not ready for Hunter to grow older, or for Darius to fall for his charm as well. I couldn't help it, at my core, I am a Dadrius fan. Not sure if that's where I would take this au, but I can see it happening.

Another short for this au. Idk I don't feel the inspiration for anything else at the moment, which sucks because I am looking forward to continuing my longer fics, but just - i don't like anything I have been writing recently.
