When people ask him why he wears sunglasses all the time he tells them it’s because of an eye injury. Which is only part of the truth, the other reason why he wears sunglasses is that the sight of blood is still too much for him even after waking up. Back then, he was a zombie that was shackled to the fighting ring. Everything about his life at that point was about fighting, nothing else, just using his fists to beat someone senseless. Until Big Daddy pulled him out of that darkness and with the help of the Sons of Calydon he was able to become human again.
But—that’s still only part of the whole truth. There is still one reason that Lighter Lorenz wears sunglasses, and he keeps that close to his heart.
In truth, he just couldn’t bare to see the world in its full intensity anymore. He may have become human again, but he’s still was too afraid of the light.
And then he met you.
Even with the haze of his sunglasses he can still see your light and feel its intense warmth. You have him like a moth to a flame, doing nothing but being enraptured by your light (not like he wanted to do anything but get closer to you anyway).
And then one day, he gets an urge to see you— really see you .
So despite the buzz of the world around him, he removes his sunglass and—
“What do you see?”
A cacophony of color reflected through your light. Like sun-kissed stained-glass that colors touch everything— change everything . And he realizes that despite the haze he was used to seeing, this color wasn’t new to him at all. After all it was—
“You.”
“All of you.”
