“Boring breeds trouble,” you said. Your voice rang out in the hall, like a gong in a cemetery. “It often means that things are happening in the shadows.”
“And what would an advisor know of shadows?”
The question hung in the air between you and the duke for a moment as you regarded each other. Though his tone was casual, there was an almost uncomfortable weight behind it.
“More than a king, or a princess…or a duke for that matter,” you said, pushing through the unease. “The world moves in the shadows, Your Grace. More than you know. One need only observe.”
