Work Text:
The first thing that caught his attention was the aroma of baked bread and cake.
This , however, did not teeter the Vice President in. There was no craving for baked goods unless they were made by his beloved's nimble hands.
Oh Ao-chan..., He sighed.
His moment of swooning was cut short by a high-pitched cheer.
"Akane!!! Hehe!"
Oh boy.
Akane huffed and glanced over to the two supernaturals.
Mirai waved frantically, her hands rocking in circles as she sat on the table in the middle of their boundary , a large clock ticked behind them.
She looked normal, at least, what was deemed normal to them.
Her dark brown hair was tied painfully-he assumed, into two pigtails, little gold emblems at the very bottom tying it together. She wore a flowy dark blue dress with a clock in the middle, acting as a brooch. Her eyes were closed shut , a big grin covered her cheeks.
To the girl's left, an old, lean man sat, a mask like an owl resting on his nose. Kako. His long, white beard dangled onto the table. His suit was clean and properly collected.
Mirai squealed with delight, her arms continuing to fan around. "Thanks for all your hard work! Today, we're having a party!!!"
"We're touched by how diligently you clean for us," Kako added and raised one hand. "Please, accept this small token of our thanks."
Akane stared at them for a bit, surveying the whole setup. A small tea set was sitting on the cloth. Kako sipped on a cup while waiting for the young boy's response.
They wanted him to ... eat with them? As if he were one of the same? As if. He was nothing like them.
He was normal. He was human.
These people ... if you could call them that ... were not. They were scum. They had tricked him for years, forcing him to clean up their dirty little clocks. And now they suddenly wanna thank him?
"Oh?'" Akane smiled emptily, "No, I'm good."
Mirai tilted her head.
"Im going straight home. I need to study for my test tomorrow." Not at all a lie.
He strode over to the doorway, eager to leave. To see Ao-chan again ... and perhaps woo her...maybe a cake?
Before he left, he looked at them, a glare covering his face. "And just so we're clear. I'd never hang out with supernaturals willingly." He spat out.
He slammed the door on the way out, leaving the table jostling.
Mirai hummed, her teal eyes looking at the door in which he left. Her small hands went up to fix her hair before looking at Kako.
Kako stared at the door, his hands gripped on his cane. "Hmmm..."
His fingers curled around the top of his cane, he dragged it smoothly and struck the ground, a clock forming the the ground.
Thump !
...
"I'd never hang- wait..." Akane murmured, his hands coming to his mouth.
"What was that?" Mirai giggled.
"H-You turned back time!!!"
Kako shrugged. "Please. Sit down and join us."
"As if!" Akane huffed. He stomped over and slammed the door again.
Thump !
...
"I'd never h- Hey! Quit it!!!" Akane yelled.
Mirai giggled, her little arms thrashing. "Mirai loves seeing you mad!"
"Shut it you -"
"I invite you again to join us for cake."
"I don't hang out with supernatural!!!" Akane growled.
"Akane wants to spend time with his girlfriend!" Mirai squealed.
Akane turned red. "Y-maybe I do!"
Kako chuckled in amusement.
Akane crossed his arms and stormed out, the door banging.
Thump!
,,,
" Gah! You will not stop will you?!" Akane yelped.
Kako's hand was gripped by his cane. "Please, have a seat."
"Sit! Sit! Have a bite! Mirai baked it just for you!" Mirai fluttered.
Akane sneered. "...Ugh!"
With a dissatisfied look, he marched over and sat recklessly on the chair.
Mirai smiled brightly cut a piece of cake and slammed it onto a plate. "Here! Eat!"
Akane grunted. " It's not poisoned is it?"
Mirai giggled. "Only to people Mirai doesn't like!"
Akane grumbled and snatched the plate away.
Kako watched over the two and he sipped on some tea. His kids always made a mess like this.
Akane slowly took a bite, chewing it slowly, as if ready to spit it out at any moment.
"So? How is the cake Mirai baked? You like it?" She asked.
"This is why I hate supernaturals!" Akane spouted, his cheeks chewing.
Kako laughed softly, followed by Mirai's infectious giggles. "He likes it!" She clapped.
The eldest keeper watched the other two quietly. Watching as Akane tried to act cold and indifferent towards them.
Deep down, Kako knew what they had done. They had deceived him. A young adolescent boy who just wanted the girl he liked, who was tricked into becoming a school wonder, gifted with extreme power.
But, the boy couldn't act frigid forever. The three had been a faction for a few years now. They knew each other. They were "tight", as the younglings say.
Over the years, Kako began to develop a list of things he had hoped for the human boy. A list that could never be attained by supernaturals.
He wanted him to be happy, to get the girl he liked, to grow older, and get married even. Maybe start a family. He wished a lot of things for Akane.
But alas, he and Mirai would not get to witness his life unfold. At least, his life after graduation.
He smiled softly as he sipped, watching Akane get aggravated at the little girl's teasing. His kids are such a mess.
He supposed there was one thing to learn from the young human boy. One lesson he had forgotten over the many years.
Sometimes, you just have to find solace in the present.
