Chapter Text
It only takes Lucifer a mere two hours to ruin everything once again with Charlie, after a nice talk about the hotel and how it would help sinners Lucifer wad invited to join the hotel's dinner that afternoon by an overexcited Nifty. It seemed like a lovely idea at first, Alastor and Lucifer would be able to sit next to each other silently communicating and soaking up the presence of each other after a century apart, not only that but he could talk to his daughter too, truly a dream come true. Or so he thought before everyone asked a few too many questions and the king gave few too little answers. Lucifer wasn't the best at socialising nor the best at explaining complicated situations and it never turned out well for him.
The fight broke out in record time as his daughter for once showed her mothers characteristics as she was quick to argue and go straight for the weak spot. She brought up his neglect in her childhood and how he had loved someone else more than he loved Lillith leaving them both behind to pick up the prices of their broken family, it had started off with truth before turning to some twisted reality the former Queen had told their daughter in hopes to ruin her opinion of Lucifer which clearly had worked. Despite all of the horrible imagery of Lucifer being a cheat and an atrocious father the worst thing that Charlie had said was that she didn't remember the other sins. That stung
The sins were Lucifer's closest friends, more like family to him than anything else. They had been there since the fall as one of the reprucuassions to his gift to humanity the 7 base forms for evil were created but they were so much more than that. They helped him more than anyone else in Hell, they may argue at times but above anything else they cared for each other so deeply and would always be there or one another.
When Lucifer first had Charlie he had been so excited to introduce the sins to her, she had called them her aunts and uncles. They had monthly dinners and felt so much more of a family to him than heaven ever had been. They had all adored her, Beelzebub and Asmodeus especially, she always watched with awe as they shifted forms or used their powers so similar to the way she looked at her father simply entranced by the power they held. He hadn't expected this view to last forever, assumed that the older Charlie got the more she thought of them more as peers, perhaps even as siblings as Lucifer did. He did not however expect her to just forget them, not when the sins still asked how she was and often told Lucifer that once he finds her that she would have to come visit and catch up. They still cared so deeply for her so how couldn't she feel the same way for them?
The worst part of all was that it hadn't meant to hurt, it wasn't like everything else she said in the heat of the argument that could be put down to anger and a clouded mind, something she hadn't meant. No, Lucifer had simply said how nice it was enjoying the meal with the hotel, how it reminded him of the family dinners with the sins and how much they all missed her. And all Charlie did was with a slightly guilty expression admitted that she didn't remember said meals or the sins on any right of their own. It was from there though that the rest of the argument spiralled, Angel Dust asked how Lucifer didn't know that to which Charlie replied for him saying that they hadn't spoken since her and Lillith left the palace when she was only young.
The answer only gave way to more questions, why did Charlie and her mother leave? Why didn't they speak? Where was Lucifer? And so on and so on, and endless attack on Lucifer berating him for being an absent father despite his own lack of choice in the matter. Even before Lillith had physically taken Charlie away she had removed all of Lucifer's opportunities to speak to his daughger, he would be lucky to see her once a month before they left, it was why he spent so long on earth trying to distract himself from the crippling loneliness.
Finally after suffering through the heat of the argument Lucifer stood up saying that he thought it better that he just leave. He had clearly overstayed his welcome and wmhad business he had to attent to, it was a lie of course but he didn't want to admit that he simply couldn't handle this much blame being thrown towards him, it reminded him of Lillith blaming him for the fall and God that hurt. Charlie was a good person, she was always so kind and forgiving and yet now she was acting so much like her mother, so cruel and relentless, it was crushing Lucifer.
Charlie had not questioned his exit nor his glances over to Alator followed by him saying he too should leave as he followed him out the door and not returning until the next morning. She hadn't even thought that perhaps Alastor would be on the other side of the pentagram comforting the broken angel in his arms as all of the highs and lows of the day caught up to him once again tearing down all of his hard exteriors and leaving behind just the shell of a man.
Alastor carded his fingers through Lucifer's hair as they lay on his bed in the palace. The deer had immediately sat and held his arms out for the other man to climb into, a routine so familiar to them even after so many years apart. Lucifed wept into the chest of his lover as he held him as close ad possible not wanting him to leave him yet again. They stayed like that for an indeterminateable amount of time, not that it mattered to either of them they would take as much time together as they could get, at some point Lucifer had stopped crying and had instead just cuddled up more to Alastor. It wasn't until the king shifted again as he nuzzled closer to Alastors chest that the deer spoke "It's been a long day, go to sleep my love."
"I don't want to go to Earth." Lucifer simply replied with a bit of a whine as he stayed close to the other man.
Alastor squinted down at him I'm confusion, why would he go to Earth when he was simply suggesting he rest. "What do you mean dear?" He queried gently. The devil lifted his head to look at Alastor, his chin resting gently on his chest now.
"If I sleep I go to Earth, it's supposed to be a punishment but it isn't really." He spoke quietly as the deer looked at him prompting the man to continue. "I haven't been back since you died. I, I couldn't see our home without you in it, I just couldn't."
Alastor looked at his lover with a look of tender apologeticness, of course he couldn't of stopped it but he felt guilty wither way. "Wait, did you just not sleep at all since I died?" He said it with an air of sarcasm hoping to God that he was misreading this but the look Lucifer gave him proved him correct. "Oh Lu." He knew that Lucifer would have suffered from his death, it had been proven earlier that day when they had reunited, the relief was clear as day, he had obviously been grieving him for a long time. But still he hadn't imagined it had been that bad, that he would evade sleep for ninety odd years just because of Alastor.
"I couldn't live without you, I wouldn't. On Earth everything was just the ghost of our times together, everywhere I looked all I could see was you and think about how I would have to keep living without you. I won't go back."
Sighing Alastor simply pulled Lucifer higher before placing a chaste kiss to his mouth to get him to stop talking, he knew the man wouldn't stop the depressing ramble if not. The plan worked well as Alastor pulled away to look back at the now smiling man before him, it was clear he wanted more affection and thankfully for both of them they now had all of the time in the world for it.
