"The ham is ready! Just give me a minute dear-"

Aveline quickly trotted to the kitchen, hastily putting on her oven mitts. Her husband Raymond was patiently waiting in the dining room, holding a newspaper in his right hand with the other carefully clutching a cup of bitter coffee.  It was quite silent, the only thing audible being the ticking of a clock. It ticked, and ticked, until the sound of footsteps burst through.

"Ack- Sorry it's a bit burnt. I may have set the timer wrong...again. Hopefully it's still edible"

Aveline hesitantly placed the more than slightly burnt ham onto the dinner table and chuckled a bit. Quickly brushing a few strands of her hair down, even though they were in the comfort of their own home.

"Hah, No worries, I'm already used to it."

Laughing for a bit, they soon continued their cut off conversation.

Aveline and Raymond weren't your typical married couple, the pair were more of... best friends. They never really saw each other romantically, mainly because of their attraction to the same gender. But to keep a low profile (and maybe tax benefits(¬ᴗ¬)they decided to stay together being married. Afterall, they didn't mind each other's company, and they could just treat each other as they did before.

"Say, isn't your birthday coming soon?" Raymond commented, glancing over at Aveline.

"Oh! I supposed it must have slipped my mind- thanks for the reminder"

"Well if you want anything, just tell me."

"I guess we do need a new coffee maker... our current one is starting to break, I've been seeing you getting bothered with it and-"

"For yourself" Raymond quickly cut her off before replying once again "I know you're always busy with housework with barely anytime for your own leisurely activities. I want to give you something that you'd enjoy, not something for the both of us. Like a new dress or whatever"

Aveline thought for while, furrowing her thin brows in the process.

"Hmmm..."

The clock ticked and ticked

"It's fine, you can think about it later. Just don't forget alright?"

"Hehe.. I'll try not to!"

They both wrapped up their conversation and finished their dinner. Aveline hummed a song she had heard once on the radio as she carried the dirty plates to the sink. She was still figuring out what she wanted as a gift, but remembered something. Someone new was arriving in her neighbor hood tomorrow, and the house was pretty close to hers. Now she had two things consuming her mind, what she wanted, and what should she give as a gift to the newcomers. Being so lost in thought, Aveline didn't even realize that she had been scrubbing the same plate for the past ten minutes.

"Oops!"

Quickly snapping back to reality, she continued to wash the other dishes as she hummed the same song over and over.

After she was done Aveline quietly hopped over to her room, trying to not wake her husband up- he always fell asleep early, after all, it was tiring working as a mechanic. Once she opened the door she plopped down to her vanity table, where she took a good look at herself.

Her eyes pointed upwards and were the same shade of a yellowish hazelnut which complimented her short and wavy hair that was dark as the midnight sky. Her face was thin and long, quite like an almond. Her lips shaped like a heart, painted over with a dark maroon lipstick.

Aveline rubbed off her makeup and threw on a nightgown, she needed her beauty sleep and it would be a big day tomorrow.

Her dream was completely filled with this one woman, one she had dreamt about all her life and had visions of, yet she never saw in real life. Ever since her childhood it was always the same place and time, a beautiful sunrise with flowers spread out on the grass with a bench for the two. In her visions the woman would smile at her or just stare. And stare. Aveline wasn't sure if this was a sign of some sort but she knew it had to be something important. But she often had to push those thoughts aside as she was busy with something else.

The sun rose and shined brightly onto her face.
