Magnolia

Summary:

Magnolia never saw herself as a flower that had nothing to perfect

Work Text:

“Magnolia, she could have anyone in the world

Floats around town in a golden gown

Born in a castle on a cloud

Magnolia

Prettiest girl that i know

Stars in her eyes handpicked from the skies

Beautiful soul

How can I compete with her?

Perfection is the only word i think of when i think of Magnolia

She doesn't know that the world is turning just for her

I wish i could be magnolia”
-Magnolia by Laufey

Magnolia was The Goddess Of The Flowers

The rest of the field would seethe in jealousy and admiration for hours and hours
How could they not? She was Magnolia.

Her petals would invite whom feasted their eyes upon her in a warm scolia
She smelt of the heavens and the earth
But Magnolia didn't really see what she was worth

Magnolia never liked her petals, she always thought their size would make her stand out
But to all the other flowers, that’s something they’d completely doubt
Magnolia would drown herself to shrink, even if the difference was slighter
But that only made her petals shine brighter
And when that’d happen
Magnolia wishes she could burn her petals with a lighter

Magnolia didn't hate the way she smelt
But then again, Magnolia didn't know how she felt
Magnolia never understood why the other flowers envied her so much
They’d all say “she's Magnolia! She’s perfect” and such
Magnolia never saw herself as a flower that had nothing to perfect
But she saw herself as a flower that had everything to regret

The field was jealous that all the bees would only ever come to her
Hovering around her like a cat in a mother’s fur
But the flowers had something that brought them warmth and pleasure
And that was a love, something Magnolia didn't have to treasure

Magnolia saw how the couples treated each other, kindness, warmth and compassion
They’d do anything for their partners without ration
Even though the bees and flowers longed for Magnolia’s love for they’d fight
To Magnolia, none of it ever felt right

Magnolia wished for a bond that went beyond the praise
A longing warmth that stays
Magnolia was no goddess when she was alone
She longed for a bond that felt like home
She didn't want anyone to tell her she was ‘The Goddess Of The Field’
She just wanted them to treat her as ‘Magnolia’ something no one can yield

Magnolia yearned for love so sincere
Something so pure that it’d bring her fear
But Magnolia was just ‘The Goddess Of The Field’
And she knew, a future like that was nowhere near

All the flowers longed to be Magnolia
“She could have anyone in the world!” they’d claim
But Magnolia never had someone to protect her whenever it’d rain
So while everyone yearned to be magnolia
Magnolia wished to be anyone
She’d give it all up in a heartbeat
She’d give up any scolia
She’d give up her perfume
She’d give anything up for a love year long that’d bloom

Everyone yearned to know Magnolia’s secret
They’d beg and beg and promised to keep it
But Magnolia didn’t have a secret
“She enchants everyone!”
But Magnolia was trapped in a curse and all she wanted to do was run
She was a shell
So beautiful yet so empty it felt like hell
So while everyone wanted to be like her
All Magnolia wanted was to love without a blur

Magnolia was trapped inside a curse
But to all the flowers, she was in a blessing
They’d say they have it way worse
But Magnolia was just a flower in colorful dressing
Magnolia resented it
Whenever she’s think about what she lost
she’d break into a crying fit
Because there was a piece in her heart
Where no one would ever fit
A curse can only be broken with a true love’s kiss
But Magnolia knew that’s something she’d forever miss
She used to believe it some time, long long ago
But it was a dream she let go

At the time of snow, Magnolia takes her leave

For the loss of their goddess, the flowers start to grieve

Even if it was temporary, Magnolia takes a sigh of relief as she closes her petals

For when she relaxes from ‘The Goddess Of The Field’ she can finally settle

She’ll be just Magnolia

Not a goddess

Nor a scolia

When she closes her petals

All she yearns to do is pretend

pretend someone is there to treasure her

Till the very end

Even though Magnolia knows its not real

She can’t help but imagine how it’d feel

Notes:

well, this is NOT how I saw my Tuesday night going but here we are
this was an idea I had when I was in the bus and I just had to write it
this poem was a mix of the songs "Goddess" and "Magnolia" both by Laufey
I felt like writing angst but didn't have the motivation to write a fan fic so i opted for a poem
I really should be studying rn bc I have an exam tmmr but poetry is more important
btw in this context 'scolia' means a song sung by invited guests at banquets in ancient Greece
I hope you enjoyed!
