Chapter Text
The smell of blood permeated the place. The hot air made you more easily exhausted as you moved in the hot sun. But fatigue was not your only concern, of course not. The one that made you most anxious was being heard. Not only did you have to move quickly so as not to be detected, but the moment you made a false step the eyes of the dead would be on you. Luckily, if anything could be considered positive in these circumstances, it was that Ruan Mei was alone.
Her light body was quick and agile, giving her the ability to hide well from the rotting corpses that roamed the streets. But she was hungry, very hungry, and just had a black knife she found.
Across the street from her was a small store. The lack of broken glass, and what used to be considered a lousy strategic location, told her that it had not yet been looted. There were more dead than alive, and they had only been in that hellhole for two days before the food was already gone. She had not found the need to confront any of the undead, but now it was different. She couldn't find a way to reach her objective without having to kill one of them.
She would be lying if she said she wasn't a little afraid, but nothing that paralyzed her. What stopped her was her lack of physical ability and the very possible defeat she would face if she didn't come up with a quick plan.
But she felt so alone... Constantly running away and with no saintly memory... no one to keep up with. She had no one. Such a chaotic world is what she hated the most. And for what? Was it worth it? To suffer so much and get nothing in return? To archive nothing? She didn't know, but tried to force herself to follow her more primitive instincts that sought to feed. She prepared herself by remembering the weak points of those monsters and got into attack position. Maybe if she ambushed them she could win this little battle.
Here I come...
"Stop," a person's voice reached her ears, the first normal one she had heard since it all started. "With that lousy stance, you couldn't even kill a bunny rabbit."
She turned quickly and could see a figure standing near her, looking her in the eyes. It was like a miracle, she hadn't run into anyone alive until now. Was she dreaming? This woman was wearing clothes in perfect condition unlike her own. With the most extraordinary beauty and such a confident smile.
Who... Who was she?
