Work Text:

Broken sobs filled the room. This wasn’t the first time this had happened, Mic coming home to Taco curled up with sobs wracking her body, gasps for air breaking through, gagging as if something was lodged in her throat but nothing would come out, sharp nails drawing blood on her arms, trembling, eyes wide, immediately reaching for Mic with a whimper when she saw her.

It didn’t take long for Microphone to know what was happening, and what she needed to do. She wrapped her arms around the British object, cradling her through the breakdown. She didn’t question what triggered it, she didn’t think of asking, just taking care of the shorter one.

“It’s okay…It’s okay…I’m here…” The taller one whispered to the sobbing, shattered one, softly rubbing at her arm, feeling the drops of blood. It’s okay. She slightly shifts, causing Taco to latch on tightly.

“I’m not going anywhere…don’t worry…” She reassures, causing Taco to only slightly relax, reaching for the first-aid kit she learned to keep nearby, ever since the second time this happened.

“Don’t…don’t go…” Taco whispered, in between broken sobs which heaved her body.

“I won’t.” She reassured, kissing gently at Taco’s cheek, before slowly searching through the first-aid kit for gauze and bandages. Gently applying the gauze was easy (trying not to listen to the hiss of Taco’s pain was not), wrapping bandages around the wounds was a bit harder, since there were…a lot of cuts this time.

She made a disapproving tsk, getting a murmur of “sorry” from the shorter one, which she frowned at. It wasn’t her fault for breaking down, it wasn’t her fault for doing the one thing she found was able to stabilize herself (even if harmful).

Soon, Taco could breathe properly, and tears began to dry, though she refused to let go of Mic, which Microphone didn’t dare to pull away from (she didn’t want to, either. It was nice to be held, to be wanted.), instead holding the british one closer.

“Want to tell me what triggered it?” Mic soon asked, getting a shift from Taco, who began to sit up to the taller’s confusion.

“I…I have no idea…I was just reading…and then I just…started crying, and…couldn’t stop.” She reached for the book in question, with Mic’s eyebrow upturned as she read the title- “Emma And The Incredible Shrinking Rat”. Oh, that book Mic got a few christmases ago from Salt for a secret santa, left on her shelf to dust.

“...were there any parts that could’ve triggered it?” Mic asked, taking the book to look at the title (seemed like a mouthful), and the cover art was…decent, in her own opinion.

“No, atleast, not that I could think of. That would be silly, to break down due to a children’s book, no?” Taco soberly chuckled, seeing Microphone’s eyebrows crease.

“Not really…I mean, I cried while watching the My Little Pony movie.” Now that got a laugh from Taco, a delightful one that made her girlfriend’s heart thump and leap around.

“The…My Little…Hah! Microphone, you never fail to surprise me.” Taco cooed, getting a flustered chuckle from Microphone, getting a small smile from the shorter. Microphone mentally threw her hands in the air, successfully making the Mexican food feel better.

“What can I say? I have a soft heart.” Mic laughed softly, bringing the shorter into another embrace as she laid on the bed, getting a hum from Taco.

“A beautifully soft heart, don’t forget that.” She murmured, bandaged arms wrapping around the taller as she closed her eyes, only breathing and the sound of wind outdoors in the room.

They fell back into place, at each other’s sides, a puzzle finally complete.
