The moment the trio arrived on the scene at Central City, the pair of skunk brothers were getting a look at the goods they had stolen from a nearby shelter. Tikal assumed her spirit form and glared down the thieves, who were studying a pair of red and green Koopa shells found randomly one day.
"Hey, what do these turtle shells do, anyway?" the smaller skunk questioned.
"Maybe we just throw 'em," the larger skunk guessed.
"Return those items at once!" Tikal demanded.
The duo heard her voice and looked to find Mario and Luigi assuming combat stances. The larger skunk cracked his knuckles while the smaller skunk glared them down.
"Two against two?" the smaller skunk questioned.
"That's a big fumble," the larger skunk noted.
"Prepare to face the might of..." the smaller skunk began.
"...Rough and Tumble!" the duo, Rough and Tumble, declared.
"Go time!" Mario declared.
"Oh, yeah!" Luigi exclaimed.
All four of them got into combat stances. Tikal turned back into her Hint Orb form and flew to a safe distance.
"It's time to team up!" Tikal instructed. "This shouldn't be a problem if you both work together."
Mario was the first to make a move, jumping straight for Rough. He landed feet first on the skunk's head.
"Let's-a go!" Luigi cheered.
The green-clad man rushed into position and used his feet as a springboard to propel his brother back up into the air. He landed on Rough once again for extra damage.
"Okay...that hurt!" Rough said, shaking off his dizziness.
"They've got combo moves, too?!" Tumble noted with shock. "That's our gig!"
It was Luigi's turn to make a move, so they broke out their Wispon Hammers. Luigi got ready to swing the hammer sideways.
"Mario!" Luigi signaled.
"Oh, yeah!" Mario complied, ready with a charged Hammer.
Using extra power provided by the electricity inside the Wispon, Mario smacked the Hammer right at Luigi's weapon. Luigi was sent spinning straight to Tumble, who had to block the blow with his strong arms. This did push Tumble back somewhat, but he was still standing.
When the ventilation system activated in response to the skunk brothers's stench, Luigi got a sudden headache.
"Luigi?" Tikal asked. "Is something wrong?"
He saw an image of the ventilation system's control panel nearby in his mind. Rough was planning to break the panel so that the vents wouldn't work. The moment those visions ended, Luigi's normally light blue eyes briefly took on a green tint.
"Leave it to me!" Luigi declared, adjusting his cap with a smug expression.
Luigi made a mad dash for the control panel. Rough saw what he was trying to do, however, and made a Spin Dash for the green-clad brother.
"Mario!" Luigi exclaimed. "The control panel!"
Mario quickly wriggled out of Tumble's grasp and sprinted in between them. The red-clad man readied his Hammer and batted Rough's ball form into a nearby stack of crates. Luigi adjusted the controls and turned the vents on at full blast. That cleared out the skunk stench, allowing everyone to breathe easier.
