The Astrocitizen Experiment (AU)

Summary:

A sorta body horror experiment au I’ve been working on

Notes:

The first 6-7 chapters will be sorta worded like found files, which will give info for the rest of the au’s story (which will be shown from April’s perspective) also I’m gonna write two endings for it since I’m indecisive (one good one bad)

Chapter 1: Deedee Dawkins.

Chapter Text

Date: 1st of january, 1965

Subject name: Deedee Dawkins
Subject number: 01
Injection type: avian

Day 1 analysis:
Deedee seems compliant, allowing the injection without much restraint. An hour later she started feeling mildly dizzy, but stated she was ‘alright’ nonetheless. I don't expect any more differences for today, nor for the next.

Day 2 analysis:
Deedee was relatively quiet during examination today, when confronted with this she answered saying her throat hurt, later inspection showed vocal cords abnormalities and even development of a syrinx at the base of her windpipe. This extra vocal organ is too early into creation to serve any purpose currently. Other than this nothing else of interest is to be noted. This raised concern with her, but I told her these mutations would only be temporary.

Day 3 analysis:
Growth of papilla has been recorded on Deedee’s body, mainly developing on the neck, forearms and thighs; I believe feather development will begin in a few more days, though the rapidness of these mutations suggest an even sooner date. her voice seems slightly more ‘chirpy’ today, as if a bird was tweeting as she talked. She continues to be compliant to basic commands. I have begun giving her more iron efficient foods, to ensure the next mutations are painless and quick, as well as anti itching cream to ensure no damage to her skin.

Day 4 analysis:
Her upper lip has begun hardening, as well as sharpening into a triangular shape, transforming into a beak-like structure. She informed me that it felt similar to a toothache. Deedee seems concerned at the rapid growth of these new characteristics, but I assured her it was fine. She still (somewhat) believes these mutations are temporary. Small feather buds have begun sprouting from the papilla, very soon she will have a full coat of it, the extra layer might cause overheating so I installed (brought in from home) a fan. Though now she always stands in front of it, she says it ‘just feels right’.

Day 5 analysis:
Deedee has been more restless lately, and has been requesting coffee quite often. I denied these requests since it may halt her mutation’s growth. She was less compliant afterwards. I did a rescan of her syrinx and it seems almost fully complete and functional. I noticed her making accidental squawking sounds while talking, as well as mimicking my voice almost perfectly, of course she only currently uses this to mock me.

Day 6 analysis:
Feather growth is now fully complete, as well as her beak development as expected. What I didn't expect was hand and leg mutations. She seems to be developing a bent ankle and even some claws. She also prefers to stand digitigrade (on her toes), and seems to be adapting to a more nocturnal lifestyle, though this could just be from insomnia. The more this experiment goes on the more she begins questioning it, I'm not sure if she still believes this is temporary.

Day 7 analysis:
Deedee seems to be getting taller, almost close to reaching my height. Scans show slight bone growth in her metatarsals, due to this I've started prescribing her with calcium supplements, as well as a light dosage of pain medication. I've started noticing her ‘perching’ on things, such as her bed frame. It's as if it's second nature to her, she didn't even realize until I pointed it out.

Skill testing:

Flight test- despite having an almost perfect set of wing feathers, Deedee is incapable of flight, only being able to glide down from levelled heights downwards. This is mainly due to not having a developed keeled sternum, as well as not having enough chest muscles in order to flap her wings against the wind which pushes force up against her.

Rating; 3/10

Vocal test- Deedee can create almost perfect replicas of voices and sounds, due to her extra vocal organ. She does have a hard time talking without making squawking sounds and does occasionally blurt out chirps, but nonetheless her ability to recreate and copy people’s voices is impeccable.

Rating; 9/10

Attack/defense test- after a simulated fight she seems to have varied results. She can make quick distanced attacks with her extra foot range, but seems slightly less capable in close battles, resulting in ‘pecking’ and desperate scratching.

Rating; 5/10

Conclusion: While Deedee is lacking in some, her vocal abilities have proven useful to some extent, and her instincts are quite manageable and under control. Experiment have shown both the pros and cons of avian DNA splicing.
