Work Text:
Auston loved his boys, more than anything. He loved showering the boys in gifts, getting them anything they wanted or need or didn’t need but he didn’t care if he spoiled them,, they deserved everything. The amount of stuffed animals they have was a bit ridiculous but Auston couldn’t help himself when he saw one that his boys didn’t already have. So sue him if when out getting groceries he found two stuffies that he thought his boys would love and he bought them. Just the thought of the smiles on their faces was enough for Auston to add them to his cart before heading to the checkout. Arriving at home the two boys were sitting on the couch with the dogs. Mitch noticed him first, eyes lighting up as he jumped up from the couch.
“Papa! You’re back!” Mitch yelled. Auston barely had time to set down the bags before Mitch was throwing himself at Auston. Auston picked him up, allowing Mitch to wrap himself fully around him. Mitch was always clingier than Matthew. Auston sometimes thought that Matthew still thought that he was unwanted as he come just a bit ago, but Auston did everything he could to make Matthew feel wanted and welcome.
“I am. If you let me put you down I can put the groceries away and get you guys your surprise.”
“Surprise?” Matthew’s voice was quiet as he stood in the doorway.
“Yes I got you both a surprise. Now go finish your movie and I’ll join you when I’m done.” Auston set Mitch down and pressed a kiss to his forehead. He stepped toward Matthew, pulling him in for a hug and kissing his forehead as well.
The boys ran back to the living room, listening so they could get their surprises. Auston was almost. as excited as the boys so he just put away the fridge and freezer food, leaving the rest of the food on the counter for later. He grabbed the two stuffies and holding them behind his back he walked into the living room. Mitch was practically bouncing on the couch, thumb in his mouth as he watched the movie. Matthew was a lot calmer, relaxing against he back of the couch, looking about ready to fall asleep. Matthew noticed him first, eyes lighting up.
“Mitchy, papa.” Matthew asked softly. Mitch’s head snapped toward Auston and he sometimes got even more excited.
“Close your eyes boys and hold out your hands.” Auston stepped in front of them, blocking the TV but neither seemed to care. Auston set the stuffies in both boys waiting hands, a light brown bunny for Mitch and a black puppy for Matthew.
“Okay open.” Auston said. Both boys opened their eyes to see the stuffies in their hands.
“Papa. Love it.” Mitch hugged his bunny to his chest, rubbing the sift fur against his cheek.
“I’m glad you do. Matty, do you like it?”
“Yeah papa. Soft.” Matthew rubbed the soft fur between his fingers.
“I’m glad you like them. How about we head upstairs and you can snuggle them while you nap?” Auston knew one of the little would protest the nap and just about expected the while from Mitch.
“No.”
“I know Mitchy. But your bunny has had a big day and I think he needs a nap. So let’s just go upstairs and see what happens.”
“Ok papa.” Mitch stood up, taking Auston’s waiting hands. Matthew was already up, holding Auston’s other hand. Auston led the two upstairs and into their bedroom. Auston led the boys to the bed, letting them both sit down. Auston grabbed two pull-ups from the cupboard. It was a quick process to get both boys changed and before long the three were cuddled up in bed together with Auston in the middle and the little on either side of him.
“Good night boys. Have a good nap.” Auston pressed a kiss to each boy’s foreheads.
“Thanks papa.” Matthew mumbled, already mostly asleep with his new puppy in his arms.
“Ni-ni.” Mitch said, already mostly asleep with his thumb in his mouth and bunny in his arms. Auston felt his own eyes slipping closed, allowing the steady breathing of the littles to lure him to sleep as well.
