Chapter 1: The turtle has entered the nest

Chapter Text

Leo felt fuzzy and warm, there was a soft breeze brushing against his face, the smell of wood and moss penetrated the air.

Leo felt oddly calm here, safe even….

Where was here again?

Leo sluggishly opened his eyes groaning slightly at the light that hit his pupils, he blinking a couple times to rid himself of the irritation and the sleepy blurriness.

“Wha?”

Leo’s words came out slightly slurred from sleep. he slowly pushed himself up and surveyed his surroundings. Leo’s initial lax mind and body, was quickly replaced stiff alertness.

This was definitely NOT the lair, the place he was currently in was dim, and seemed to be made of rough un sanded wood, all except the floor and the far right wall. the floor appeared to be made out of moss feathers and what looked like animal fur.
The right wall wasn’t even a wall, instead it was a gaping hole where sunlight shined through, basking the decently large room in soft natural light. Yeah definitely not the lair.

Leo carefully pushed himself the rest of the way to his feet, wobbling and wincing at the pain. He hadn’t fully healed from the invasion two months ago, his left knee was still pretty screwed, though it was making pretty good progress,
(thank you Draxum, for making mutants with enhanced healing capabilities.)

Steadying his balance, Leo began the arduous process of hobbling himself over to the gaping hole in the wall, using the wall close to him to lean on and use as a crutch.

As he was walking, feeling the wooden wall as he went, he was surprised by how smooth the wood actually was. it wasn’t the same kind of smoothness one would get using sandpaper, it felt more akin to something worn, like a rock in a river, warn down over time.

Leo was only a couple feet away when his whole he froze, like ice was poured down his spine, freezing him over.

There was nothing there, The hole in the wall seemed as if it dropped off into nothing but thin air. Leo very carefully brought himself closer to the edge so he could get a better view of how high in the air he somehow ended up.

“Hrck”

Leo couldn’t help the small choked sound that escaped his mouth. because ehw boi was he high up.

From the new vantage point, Leo could clearly see the fact that he was what looked like hundreds of feet off the ground, maybe even thousands. not only that but he was in a tree, a fucking massive tree.

This wasn’t the only ginormous tree, no, in fact he was surrounded by these abnormally large trees. Every thing was so full of flora in such a rich and vibrant shade of green, but not only was the trees a vibrant hue, but also the sky.

Leo had never seen a sky so clear, nor had he ever breathed in such clean unpolluted air, it was staggering and breathtaking- (haha. get it, breath?) -at the same time.

Leo eventually stepped back, backing away from the edge, feeling a slight case of vertigo due to the hight. Usually being so far away from the ground wouldn’t bother Leo. (ya know, being a ninja and all. jumping and pulling elaborate moves from dangerous heights was kinda there whole thing.) But even he felt his stomach flip from this altitude.

Leo slowly and arduously, Leo pulled himself back over to where he woke up. Carefully setting himself down, shifting his injured leg in a more ‘comfortable’ position, and began to speak aloud to himself.

“Okay Neon Leon, think, how’ed you get here?”

Leo racked his brain for answers, trying to scrounge up anything that could indicate how he got here, not to mention, figuring out where the hell is his brothers.

At the thought of his brothers, his face screwed up with worry. where were they?

Were they also somewhere in this odd forest? Could they be in an even more insane situation than him? Leo hoped not, considering the fact that he had no idea how he got himself in this situation, let alone get himself out of it, how is he supposed to help his brothers out of a worse situation, if he can’t even figure out how to get out of his?

Taking a deep breath, Leo closed his eyes, pushing away his worries and nagging thoughts, he began searching and reaching deep down inside himself for his nimpo. He found it pretty quickly, it was a strong bright flickering flame inside of him. it was the power that was gifted to him due to being a member of homato clan, it’s the power that connects him to his brothers, it’s also the ticket to helping him find them.

Leo accessed his nimpo, reaching out it’s soft but powerful tendrils in hope of reaching one of his brothers, he sat there for probably a good forty minutes before he started making any real progress. But finally felt another nimpo user, Leo just barely brushed up against the other persons nimpo- (it felt like Mikeys) -before he was rudely interrupted by a odd wooshing and thumping noise.

Leo quickly broke from his meditative state, eyes hurriedly opening, tensing and turning to the opening in the wall. reaching for his katanas only to let out a curs as he realizes he doesn’t have them on him.

Leo whole body goes completely rigid at the sight before him, because there in the entrance stood a massive winged beast, something Leo hadn’t thought was real a minute ago.

a dragon.

“Shit”
