Work Text:
“Seresins speaking- Jacob, Madeline, Jo, Lottie, Jake and Cammie! One of us will call back soon enough. Bye now, and go Cowboys!”
“Mama, can Lottie and I stay at Mrs. Esther’s house longer? She made cookies. We’ll bring some back for Jake and Cammie and you and Daddy. Okay, bye. Love you!”
“Hi, it’s Imogen, from the public library. Just wanted to tell y’all how much of a help your boy has been today! I’ve never seen a little boy so excited to read. We’d love to have him anytime, and we’ll send him some with some books. Have a good one, y’all.”
“Seresins speaking- Jacob, Madeline, Lottie, Jake and Cammie! One of us will call back soon enough. Bye now, and hook ‘em!”
“Hi everyone, it’s Jo! I miss you all, even though you just left. Lottie, don’t let Chemistry deter you, Mrs. Hodges is just a tough nut to crack. Jakey, freshman year is scary, but you have Lottie! You’ll be okay. Cammie, stay out of trouble and don’t give Mama a heart attack, you hear? Mama and Daddy, I love you. Take care.”
“Uh, hey, is Lottie there? This is Sebastian, I think you gave me this number at the football game last weekend? I’d love to hang out with you sometime. Thanks, bye.”
“Hi, it’s Imogen from the public library. Jake wanted me to tell you he’ll be home for dinner, and that he can pick up his sister’s geometry textbook if she’d like. Have a good evening!”
“Mrs. Seresin, can I ride with you and Jake to practice, please? My mom had to pick up a shift last minute.”
“Jo again, just got back to my apartment! I just can’t believe all my baby siblings are in high school now! Have an awesome year, y’all. I love you all.”
“Hi Mrs. S- I mean, Madeline, it’s Javy again. Do you guys know the number for the pizza place? I’m home alone and I can’t really cook. Thank you!”
“Mama, can you, Daddy or Jake come get me? My friends wanted to go to a party and I’m scared. I drank something and I don’t know what it is but I don’t feel good. I want to go home. It’s at Brady Hamilton’s house. Please.”
“Mama, it’s Jake. I’m at Javy’s but Cammie called, wanting to be picked up from some party. I know you and Daddy are out right now. I’ll go get her. Talk soon.”
“Hello Mr. and Mrs. Seresin, this is Miranda from the regional hospital. Two of your children were brought in, it appears they’ve been in an accident. Your son broke his arm, but the medical examiner needs you to come in to identify which one of your daughters was in the crash with him. I’m so sorry. Call back if you need anything.”
“Seresins speaking. One of us will call back soon enough. Bye now!”
“Hi, it’s Imogen from the public library. Jake is here with me, something about feeling too sick for school. Don’t worry, we’ve got him stocking the shelves and doing some work. I’ll send him back if y’all want. Have a good one!”
“It’s Jo, I’m back in Austin. I love you all.”
“Lottie, it’s Sebastian. I’m worried about you. We graduated last semester and I haven’t heard from you since the ceremony. I miss talking to you.”
“Hey, y’all, it’s Lottie! Gap year’s going good. We’re in Barcelona for the weekend. Daddy, you’d just love it here. I’m having the time of my life. Give Cammie a kiss for me. Talk soon! Much love.”
“Hey Jake, can you come over and help me study for that Physics final? I’m totally going to fail, bro. Javy over and out.”
“Jake Seresin speaking. Leave a message after the tone, I might get back to you or I might not.”
“Hi honey, it’s Mama! Your father and I miss you very much, but we hope you're having a good time. Jo and Dave adopted a puppy, he’s so cute, his name is Finn! Isn’t that just darling? Lottie is in Toronto now, I think, but I’m not entirely sure what she’s doing, I think she quit the circus a few months ago. Oh well. Your father says I’m probably boring you, so I’ll let you go. Send Javy our hugs! Love you, sweetie.”
“Will you stop antagonizing me, Seresin? Jesus Christ. It’s like you get off on making my life more miserable than it already is.”
“Bro, what do you think of Roadrunner for my call sign? Sick, right?”
“You’ve got Hangman. Talk after the tone.”
“Bradshaw speaking. I’m almost back at base, should I come to yours? Natasha’s off with Javy. I’m just gonna come over. See you soon.”
“Hey Jakey, it’s Jo. Can you call me when you get this? Dave and I have something to tell you and it’s kind of big. Love you, little bro.”
“Jake, it’s your old man here. Come visit, we’re starting to forget what your face looks like. Hope you’re having a good time. Bye junior.”
“Hangman speaking, leave a message after the tone. Lottie, I’m not answering you until you apologize for saying I look like a rodent.”
“Hey, it’s Roo. Do you want to go to the movies later tonight? I’ll buy the tickets and you can get those gummy worms you like. Okay, bye.”
“I’m mad at you so- Day 1 of Jake is a Rodent Month. On this first of the month, I’d like to draw a comparison between you and a marmot. They’re literally your twin!”
“Dude, it’s Tyler! Aunt Madeline said you’re coming down to meet Jo’s kid soon? Why didn’t you tell me, man, I would have stayed longer. I’m in Oklahoma right now, maybe we can link up. Oh, and you’re bringing your boyfriend? It ain’t that Rooster guy, is it? It definitely is, that hatred was always thinly-veiled. Hit me back. Bye.”
“I’m going to pick something up from dinner, then I’ll be home. Hope you had a good day. Love you.”
“Oh shit, Jake I didn’t mean- well I did, but if you don’t think- I’m sorry. Talk when I get back.”
“I do though, for the record. Love you.”
“Hey son, it’s Dad. I’ll pick you and your boy up from the airport when you get here. Text me when you land.”
“Okay, Rodent Month is over, surely you can answer now. Not trying to eavesdrop but I heard you telling Bradley about Cammie after dinner. I’m proud of you.”
“Hangman here, leave a message after the tone. Messages from my nephew get first priority.”
“Awe, Uncle Jake, aren’t you just the sweetest? Okay Cam-Cam, say hi to Uncle Jake- [unintelligible babbling] - good job, sweetie, it is Uncle Jake’s birthday! Happy birthday, Jakey, from me and Dave too. Love you!”
“Bro night soon? I’m thinking that bar on Fourth. Text me. Javy over and out.”
“Hey, it’s Phoenix. Bradley’s here. I’m sorry, Jake. I really thought he would say yes.”
“This number is not available at this time. Please leave a message after the tone.”
“I’m sorry, sweetie. Come home whenever you like. Love you so much.”
“I’ll pick up some beer if you still want me to come over, bro. Just text me what you want.”
“Hope you’re okay, Jake, Mama told me what happened. I’m bopping around South America for the week but we need to catch up soon.”
"Jake, I'm sorry for running, you didn't- this was stupid. I shouldn't have called."
“Um, hi, is this Jake Seresin Jr? My name is Matthew Jefferson, my mom was Imogen Jefferson? She passed away recently, and I found some books from her personal collection she wanted you to have. Just tell me your shipping address and I can send them to you. She talked about you a lot, you know. Have a good one, hopefully we can chat soon.”
“Hey, man, you okay? Haven’t heard from you since I shipped out. Nat sends her love. Javy over and out.”
“Hey, Jake, it’s me. I remembered today was your sister’s birthday. I- I don’t really know what to say, and I know you probably don’t want to hear me tell you this, but it wasn’t your fault. She wasn’t. Her, or us. None of it was your fault, and I really don’t want you to think it is. You’re a good person. You’re an amazing person, actually, one me and all my shit didn’t deserve. I hope you’re taking care of yourself, Jake.”
“Hi, it’s Spencer? From the bar last night. Listen, I had fun, and you’re really hot, like really, but I’m not really looking for anything serious, so just text me if you’re in town and bored, I might be around.”
“Cam wants to say hi! Say hi to Uncle Jake, sweetie- [rustling]- Hi, Uncl’ Jake- [more rustling]- Good job, baby! Hey, Jakey. Long time, no talk, huh? It’s been pretty hectic over here. Call me when you can. Love you, little bro.”
“Bro, where are you? Bradshaw finished his song, if that’s why you flew out of here like your ass was on fire. We’re staying together, right? We better be. Javy over and out.”
“Jake, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that- Jake, please, don’t say stuff like that. You don’t deserve pain, and you definitely don’t lead people to early graves. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry, you know I am. I didn't mean it. Seeing you... I just wasn't prepared, but I didn't mean it, I swear. Call Javy back, please? He’s worried, we both are. Please.”
“You’ve reached Hangman. Leave a message after the tone, and I’ll get back to you."
“Hi, Hangman, it’s Bob, Bob Floyd. I read that book about First Ladies you recommended. That was great! Do you know any other ones like that? A guy can only go to the beach so many times before he starts to get sick of it.”
“I hope you actually got some sleep, Jake. You seriously need it. Don’t worry about me, okay? Everything’s going to be fine. I’ll be back to you before you know it. I love you. I’ve loved you since the night when you finally stopped pushing my buttons and kissed me instead. I miss you. I miss your family. I miss us. I never should have left, baby. I shouldn’t have. I won’t do it again. I’ll come right back here, and right back to you. I won’t let anything take us away from each other now. I’ll see you out there. I love you. I always have.”
“Hi sweetie, it’s Mama. I’m so happy you and Bradley are okay. Call me, I miss hearing your voice. Love you.”
"Seresin, it's Maverick. Bradley's getting discharged today, if you want to come down. I'm here with him and he hasn't said it, but he needs you."
“Holy shit, Jake, you and Bradley are back together? Thank God. No offense, but he is like, so much cooler than you. Love you bro. Oh, this is Lottie. I think I finally found where I’m going to settle down, by the way. Only issue is we might be chewing on crumpets whenever you visit.”
“You’ve reached Hangman. Leave a message at the tone and I’ll get back to you, unless you’re my nephew who keeps saying “fart” and hanging up.”
“Hey baby. Mikey just dropped me off at the airport, the plane takes off around 5. It was a good time- his kids are so much older than I remember. I want you to come with me next time, I think you and Daisy would get along. I miss you, can’t wait to talk to you soon. I hope everything’s going well over there. Love you bunches.”
“Fart. Fart. Bye Uncle Jake.”
“Sorry Jakey, I seriously need to change my password. I don’t know how he keeps doing that!”
“Dude, I miss you, Natasha just told me she’s never seen Notting Hill. Nobody gets me like you get me, bro. Javy over and out.”
“Fart.”
"Hey Hangman, it's Callie. I just wanted to say thank you for your bookstore recommendation! My wife and I seriously underestimated the 'everything's-bigger-in-Texas of it all'. Thanks again!"
“Hi sweetheart, I’m so sorry I missed your call, your father and I have been going to bingo nights and they’re real fun. You better be staying out of trouble! Well, as much as you can anyway. What? Oh, your father says hi. I think Bradley might come stay with us for a weekend, do you think he’d have fun? Don’t worry, we won’t take him to bingo. We love you!”
“Jake Seresin-Bradshaw speaking. Girls, if you’re calling to ask me to get food on the way home, the answer is no, we have plenty in the fridge. Bye now!”
“Jake, it’s my duty as your sister and the aunt of your children to tell you that you’re depriving them of the classic American experience of fast food. I know Bradley agrees, because last Thanksgiving while you, Jo, and Tyler were playing Twister, if you can even call it anything other than drunk stumbling, I caught him eating a stale McDonald’s fry he found in the trash. Sending my love!”
“Hey Jakey, Cam loves his birthday present, don’t you Cameron? - [rustling] - Yeah, hi Uncle Jake, tell Uncle Brad, Caro, and Imogen thanks from me, it’s sick. I think Mom’s just upset she didn’t think of it first- [rustling] Whatever, we both know the girls picked it out. Okay, bye Jakey! We love you!”
“Hey son, it’s Dad. Tell the granddaughters and Bradley I say hello. I’m just watching some Jeopardy and thinking of you all. Love you, junior. I don’t tell you that nearly as much as I should.”
“Hey, Dad! Do you want to go to the movies together Friday? Caroline doesn’t want to and if we go just-us, we can get our gummy worms. Daddy can come too, I guess, but he hates horror stuff. Okay, love you bye!”
“Dad, did you have to wear that to take me to Leah's birthday sleepover? All my friends are saying weird stuff about you now. No, Celia, I’m not telling my dad you think he’s hot for an old guy, what the hell. Anyways, I left you and Daddy some stuff school sent home with us for college. Do you think Austin is too far? I can be just like Aunt Jo. Love you guys, see y'all tomorrow!”
“Hi, baby, I have to be quiet because you’re sleeping in bed next to me. It’s our anniversary. Well, 12:01 on our anniversary. Best years of my life. I regret every one I spent without you. You make every part of my life so amazing, Jake. I love you. I love our family. I love our girls. I don’t know what I’d do without you, or them. You’re all my world. I love you, and I always will. I promised you that in our vows, didn’t I? I hope you know how much I love you every day. God, you snore loud. Alright. Bye, I’ll see you when we wake up in the morning.”
“Sweetheart, it’s Mama. I wanted to call and tell you that when I was going through some old stuff I found a photo of you and Cammie, from when we went to the lake that summer. I was going to mail it to you, if you’d like. She’d love them, Jake, your Bradley and your girls. I know she would. Just let me know. Tell everyone I say hi. I love you.”
