Chapter Text
“Darling, can you come here please?” Henry calls from their bedroom, his voice carrying down the stairs.
Alex, already walking across the room, scoops up James from where he’s playing with his large Lego bricks on the floor, his gummy grin as he looks up at Alex shows off his new teeth coming through. James leans his head on Alex’s shoulder from where he rests comfortably on his hip as they make their way to the stairs.
“Papa, was daddy asking for you or me?”
Alex laughs as he brings them both up the stairs. “Let’s go find out shall we?”
The sweet giggle that comes from James melts Alex’s heart, just like it always does.
Alex steps into the bedroom and James’ head pops up from his shoulder at the sight of Henry standing in the doorway of the closet. “Were you asking for me or the munchkin?”
James giggles as he clambers down from Alex’s hip. Alex watches him toddle to where Henry stands reaching his arms up to be held
Alex still laughs that he never believed all those people that swore they would start using the same terms of endearment for each other and the youngest member of their family. Somehow, without them noticing they fell into the habit of doing so. He never would have thought that the lines between pet names for their child and each other would blur so much, but here they are the living examples of the phenomenon they had laughed at.
