Chapter Text
"Wow! I chose the right time to come out! It's wonderful out here!"
Today Jon found himself out alone running some errands. It was a perfect day, the skies were clear, and it was pleasantly warm out too. So even with his pristine navy blue button-up and black slacks he wore daily, he could stay cool as summer neared. The small-eyed brunette carried two grocery bags, one in each hand, and set out to where he parked the car. Jon had a pleasant smile on his face as he walked. It was almost noon but there was barely anyone out at this time. Only a few cars stood out in the lot along with his own that was parked away from the others. Usually, Jon would ask his roommates to join him but they seemed to be busy today. Knowing Mark he was probably out reading one of the new books he picked up and Eduardo was probably out in the backyard figuring out a new way to get under their neighbor's skin. So while they were busy Jon figured he could get some much-needed shopping done to get the essentials. Eggs, milk, nails, etc. Of course, it wasn't much since the others were specific on other things so he just got what they all would use and a snack for himself. The man had to eventually maneuver the bag from his right hand to his left hand so he could get his car keys. By the time he got to the car, he unlocked it and carefully situated the bags in the backseat. The man then closed the door and was about to get into the driver's seat to take off.
That was until...
"WATCH OUT!-"
A young shrill voice yelled at him in warning. Jon turned his head just in time to see some random kid running over to him with a gun of some sort in his hands. By the time Jon looked over it was too late to process anything. A beam of light zoomed past him just right under his arm and across his side. It burned, my god it burned him like a thousand scorching frying pans hitting him at once. The man screamed at the top of his lungs and stumbled back against his car. His small eyes darted down in horror at the damage that's been done. It tore from the shirts he wore and burned through the skin.
"AH- AGH!! WHAT THE-"
The kid who ran up to him looked panicked and started freaking out with Jon. It was just a little kid who decided to play around with a laser gun of all things. Jon's side felt like it was on fire as he quickly got out of the button-up and pressed the fabric against his side to stop the bleeding. He hissed and clenched his teeth from the amount of pain that came to him so suddenly. What on earth did he do to deserve this?
"W-what- What have you done to me!?"
The kid could barely get a word out at that point. His bottom lip trembles as he is clueless about what to do to help the man in front of him. He could get in trouble or worse be arrested for carelessly hurting this man. The blood was seeping through the shirt at this point as Jon continued to press the shirt against the injury. He needed to go home and deal with this but how was he going to do that without fainting?
"I- I'm so sorry! Oh my god, I'm so sorry sir!" The kid began, "I didn't mean to hit you I swear! P-Please don't tell my mom about this!"
"Why on earth would your mother let you play with something like that?!" Jon questioned him with exasperation, "You could have killed me!"
"I know! I know! I'm sorry! I'll do anything just-" The kid stammered before hiding the laser gun behind his back, "Do you need me to get help?"
Jon thought about getting help but then the thought of worrying his roommates about an unexpected hospital trip came up. He didn't want to leave the car here and have it towed with the groceries inside of it. He couldn't let that happen. It would only prove Eduardo right about him being useless. Jon did have a habit of just taking whatever came his way and rolling with the punches. No matter how much it hurt he didn't want to be a crybaby but it came so naturally to him. So for now he forced a smile and tried to reassure the kid that he'd be alright. It was just a burn, a real nasty and painful one. But something he can certainly get through on his own.
"NO- no! It's fine, I'll be fine!" Jon tried to reassure the kid as he inched his way to the driver's seat.
His whole world was spinning but he was determined enough to try and man up for once. Every movement brought a wave of shock through the lower half of his body. "Don't pass out...don't pass out." Jon thought to himself as he struggled to get the door open and situated himself inside. The kid stared at him wide-eyed and quickly came to his side. His concern grew as he desperately wanted to help him out but he didn't know how to do that.
"A-are you sure you're okay, man? You're really hurt."
Jon's fake smile wavered as he opened the car door for himself maneuvering one leg in first. The pain didn't stop as he managed to get himself to sit down with a shuttering breath. He didn't dare move the other leg in, not yet. It took everything in the man to hold back any pained noises. What he needed to do was calm down and seem fine enough to the kid so he could go away. He just needed to hang on, just a little longer.
"Yeah, I-I'll be fine kiddo. Just go home and keep that thing locked up somewhere safe, alright?"
"You're not going to tell my mom are you?"
He really should.
"No, no, I'm not."
But he was too hurt to care about anything else.
The kid however took the reassurance with a grain of salt. He seemed to look the man over one last time, the kid was a bit hesitant to leave the man by himself but he soon ran off in a heartbeat. Jon knew that he should have been mad or at least more upset about how things ended up like this. All he wanted to do was go home now and get the burn sorted out before it could get infected or worse. He could feel it sizzling against the dampened fabric while he tried to compose himself. It took all the strength in him to haul his other leg in, groaning loudly as he did so. Jon managed to get himself in the car he shut the door and put his head down on the wheel. With his free hand, he managed to turn the car on just so he could have the a/c to cool him down. It felt like an hour before he was able to calm himself down enough to tie the shirt around himself and drive home for the day. The wound didn't look that bad once the blood began to dry. Over the drive home, he couldn't help but wonder about the strange circumstances he was put in. Where the heck did that kid get a laser gun that powerful? He couldn't go to the doctor because what would they know about laser burns? (Apparently a lot more than he thought) So he didn't bother to take himself to the hospital. He'd get it looked at another day, just not today.
Once Jon finally arrived home he shut off the car and was already dreading getting back up again. "Be a man you weakling." He cursed himself mentally. The more time he wasted here the less time he had to hide the fact that he was hurt from the others. With a heavy sigh, he managed to hobble out of the car and carefully grabbed the grocery bags to carry them inside. Tears pricked his eyes as the pain came severing back to him but he held back in case he ran into one of his roommates. If they were to see him like that it would be obvious that he was hurt somehow. Jon wasn't good at hiding his emotions no matter how hard he tried his face inevitably gave him away. By the time he made it to the front door, he felt a wave of nausea overcome him. Again he shoved the feeling down and forced his way inside. Jon looked around cautiously to see if the other two were around.
Like an idiot, he announced his presence, "Guys I'm home!"
Luckily for him, they didn't show up to greet him. Too busy doing whatever it was they did around the house. This time he didn't mind it, after all, it gave him time to patch himself up. So he left the groceries on the kitchen counter along with the keys. The pit in Jon's stomach grew but he ignored the feeling to go to the bathroom and take a much-needed shower before he tended to the flesh wound he acquired. Things didn't go according to what Jon imagined but that's okay. Everyone has weird days.
