Summary
For a moment, it felt like he was floating. It wasn't as though he could see anything. He couldn't look down and see his body lying lifeless in that barn. But it didn't feel like he was on the ground anymore. It didn't feel like he was alive or dead. Instead, it was as though he was stuck somewhere in the middle, like his body had given up, but his soul wasn't ready yet. Which was strange in a way because he'd always believed he would be so much happier the day they finally decided to end him.
More darkness. More quiet. It was almost peaceful, like floating in water, nothing existing around him. Nothing to worry about, nothing to try to live up to. Just existing in a tranquil emptiness. It was a comfort unlike any he'd ever felt in his life, a comfort he'd never normally allow himself the time to indulge in.
And then he felt himself ripped from that comfort and sent hurtling back into his body, gasping for air like he was breathing for the first time.
