Work Header

no doubt in my mind (where you belong)

Summary:

“Elphie?”
“Hm.”
“Do you ever feel like we’ve met before?”

OR

It doesn't matter what universe they're in. They'll always meet.

Notes:

These are very much stand alone. Unless I feel like matching them up, which I might, but I probably won't.

I wanted to do a little writing exercise and this started off as a joke and it's kind of grown into this. Each little section is 100 words. So, like, it's 100 times with 100 words. (It makes sense to me and I'm writing it, so.)

I already have quite a few written up but I'm open to a suggestion or two.

Ummm couple trigger warnings, I guess? Plane Crash. Blood. Mild Violence.

Enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

1.Shiz.

“Elphie?”

“Hm.”

“Do you ever feel like we’ve met before?”

Galinda lays on her side, one palm resting under her own cheek and the other hand tracing a nail over Elphaba’s bicep. The girl looks back at her with sleepy eyes and a soft smile, a knowing pull to the corners of her mouth.

“Yes. I do,” she leans forward and rests her forehead against Galinda’s, warmth spreading through her as the satisfied look in Galinda’s eyes.

“Really?”

“Of course.”

“When?”

Elphaba leans in and kisses her, a quick peck that Galinda tries to chase. “In every universe, my sweet.”

2. Pirates.

They know that it’s coming.

Morrible and her crew board the ship Elphaba already has her sword drawn. Blood drips from the end, fresh from protecting her ship from Morrible’s men climbing the sides.

“Captain,” Fiyero shouts, his shirt ripped and crimson stains the material. Elphaba winces. “There’s too many.”

“We’re stronger,” she calls back. They all ignore the shake in her voice.

She doesn’t have time to say anything else. A sword swings from her right side and she rushes her own up to meet it.

“Good save,” Galinda says and Elphaba’s eyes narrow. “Next time I won’t miss.”

3. Coffee Shop.

Living in Seattle is great.

The coffee is great, the people are nice, but the weather can suck a dick.

Galinda shakes her hair out as she enters a small coffee shop and looks around. She approaches the little counter, deciding to wait out the weather and not risk flooding her work bag..

“Hey, what can I get you?”

Galinda looks up at the voice and ‘Oat Milk Latte’ sits on the tip of her tongue, failing to fall when bright green eyes capture her own.

“I don’t,” Galinda trails off and a blush rises on her cheek. She’s wonderful.

4. Tattoo Artist.

Elphaba isn’t really sure about getting a tattoo but she lets her sister talk her into it anyway. The place looks clean and it has hundreds of great reviews online. Still.

“So who am I going to be on top of for the next hour?” A heavily tattooed blonde leans against the desk, grinning widely at the two girls and Elphaba feels her heart throb in her chest. Brown eyes meet green. “I do hope it’s you.”

“It is,” Nessa says helpfully. “You’ll be her first.”

The blonde, who has yet to look away, grins wolfishly.

“You’ve made my day.”

5. Meet and Greet.

“Oh my God. Oh my God,” Fiyero bounces on his toes and looks, again, at the front of the queue. “She’s right there.”

“I would hope so,” Galinda rolls her eyes, gum popping in her mouth. “It is her book signing.”

Fiyero glares at her but wriggles in his spot anyway. Galinda would laugh but she genuinely thinks he’s going to explode as they reach the little table, the book slamming down.

Elphaba Thropp looks up and Galinda suddenly feels like she can’t breathe.

“Thanks for coming.”

“Hi. I’m Galinda,” she hopes she’s flirting. She’s sure she’s failing.

“Delighted, Galinda.”

6. Orphans.

Smoke rises into the air from the cigarette and Elphaba assesses the damage to her knuckles. Night air blows against her cheeks.

“You know hitting walls won’t make your parents come back,” Galinda says and Elphaba wants to laugh.

“I don’t want them back,” it’s a lie. They both know it.

“Sure. Me either,” the blonde fires back. “You can talk to us, you know? Instead of flying off the handle.”

Elphaba doesn’t say anything and she looks down at their feet dangling from the side of the building. Elphaba’s green sneakers bump Galinda’s pink.

“Maybe just you,” she says.

7. Assassins.

The room is ruined. Bullet holes litter the walls and Elphaba hisses as she presses against her leg wound.

She can’t believe she let that blonde idiot hit her.

“Give up?” Galinda calls out. She sounds out of breath and a little hopeful, like she wants this to be over. “I can go another fifteen rounds.”

Elphaba really hates this girl. She grits her teeth and swivels where she’s sitting, drawing her gun. She looks over the table she’s crouched behind and comes face-to-face with Galinda.

“Hello,” the blonde smiles, blood in her teeth. Cocks her gun. “Give up?”

“Never.”

8. Surgeons.

“You did everything you could.”

“Galinda.”

“Everything,” she says again and she links her fingers between Elphaba’s. The girl squeezes back and Galinda smiles as much as she can for her girl. Elphaba rests her head against a slim shoulder and Galinda turns, pink lips pressing a gentle kiss against the top of her head. “You were amazing in there.”

“She died, Upland –”

“People die,” Galinda snaps. Elphaba lifts her head from her shoulder.

“I think I might want to be alone.”

“Can I be alone with you?”

Elphaba pauses, smiles and presses a kiss to Galinda’s lips. “Yes please.”

9. Missed Moments.

Elphaba is sure that if one more cab doesn’t stop for her she’s going to throw herself into the busy road and make one stop. Her sister and her new fiance are waiting at a restaurant across town and she’s already late.

Finally a cab stops in front of her and the door flings open quickly. Elphaba jumps back to avoid collision.

“Hey!” She says and a golden pink girl smiles at her, their eyes catching as Elphaba squeezes into the cab.

“Hi yourself,” she flirts and Elphaba blinks at her, unable to look away as the cab pulls away.

10. Stuck Together.

“We’re going to die.”

“We’re not going to die.”

“We’re going to die,” the blonde sobs and looks at her feet. “And these are the shoes I’m going to die in.”

Elphaba looks down to the girl's heels and then back to sad brown eyes. She shrugs, unsure what to say.

“We’ve called for help. They’ll fix the elevator soon.”

“I think I’m having a panic attack,” the girl says and Elphaba frowns because she really does look like she’s going to have one. “I think -”

Elphaba cuts her off with a deep kiss.

She can think it’s stupid later.

11. Wild West.

A tent is made and Elphaba is looking for food. Galinda stokes the fire, weary from a day of travelling, and tries not to think about why she’s here; how quickly her life turned from living on a farm to being with one of the most wanted criminals in Oz.

“Food,” Elphaba says and drops a small carcass next to the fire.

“What do you want me to do with that?” Galinda says, prim as she had been that morning. Before it all went wrong.

Elphaba sighs; sits next to Galinda. “I’m sorry about your family.”

Don’t talk to me.”

12. Royalty.

Galinda watches as the couples dance on the floor, the hand in her own twitching as if they were waltzing themselves and she turns to look at the woman next to her. Gold adorns Elphaba and Galinda can’t help but scan her eyes over her, still attracted to her after forty years of marriage.

“Look at them celebrating our love, my sweet,” Elphaba says, lifting Galinda’s hand to her lips and pressing a firm kiss to the back of it. “Look at all we’ve done.”

“I do it all for you,” Galinda whispers and Elphaba smirks, amused.

“I love you.”

13. Runaway Bride.

Elphaba isn’t sure how she thought her day was going to go, but watching a woman in a wedding dress crash through the door to her diner wasn’t it.

“The church is two blocks west,” she jokes and the woman looks at her, completely stricken. “Oh. I – Are you okay?”

“I left him,” she whispers. “I left.”

“I can see that,” Elphaba replies and, without looking away from the girl, she starts the coffee machine. Even from where she’s standing she can see that she’s shaking. “Take a seat. I’m Elphaba.”

“Galinda,” the woman says and promptly bursts into tears.

14. Delivery Driver.

The laptop screen hurts Elphaba’s eyes after hours of looking over legal documents. The doorbell to her apartment rings and she gets up, opening the door with a thankful smile.

“Three times this week,” the blonde giggles and hands over the pizza, an attractive raise to her eyebrow. Elphaba wants to be offended but she smiles back.  “No judgement but –”

“But what?”

“Well…” she bites at her lip and Elphaba watches as she leans in a little. “Since I know your address. Do you want to know mine?”

“Why?”

“So you can come over,” Galinda flirts.

“Oh,” Elphaba smiles. “Yes.”

15. Forbidden.

Bark scratches against Elphaba’s back and she gasps as Galinda presses kisses against her throat, teeth scraping teasingly.

“We shouldn’t be doing this,” she moans and Galinda hums in agreement. “Your parents hate me.”

“But I love you,” Galinda smiles and she runs her tongue down into the dip of Elphaba’s shoulder. “And you love me.”

“I do,” she sighs, tilting her head to kiss the blonde. It’s deep and Elphaba groans loudly, it makes Galinda press her hips closer and they both shiver. “They’ll kill us if we’re caught, Galinda.”

“Then be quiet,” the blonde pants before biting down.

16. Superhero / Villain.

Flames lick against her skin as she stands from the rubble. She can taste blood and she feels exhausted. This life; fighting Galinda The Good has been going on for too long. Years,

“We have to stop,” Elphaba says and Galinda stops in her tracks, her pink suit ripped and Elphaba runs her eyes over the girl's injuries. “I don’t want to do this anymore.”

“Do what?”

This, ” she emphasises. “We can stop now.”

Galinda hesitates then steps forward, concrete crumbling beneath her feet. Elphaba watches warily.

“But – I don’t want to stop. I don’t want to stop seeing you.”

17. Roommates.

“Hi, I’m Elphaba,” she says as the door opens and a blonde girl looks at her, eyes narrowing a little. She watches as the girl seems to assess her and she looks past her into the apartment before back at the girl, holding the ad up. “From your advertisement. For the room.”

“Oh!” The girl brightens all of a sudden. “I’m Galinda. Do you want to come in and see the room?”

“I mean – That was the plan.”

Galinda grins and opens the door further, guiding the girl inside.

18. Hitchhiker.

Elphaba doesn’t know why she’s picked the blonde up but ever since she stepped foot into her truck she hasn’t stopped talking. Music, astrology, tarot, fashion, something called a Kardashian. She thinks she’s only spoken thirty words since the girl planted herself in the passenger seat an hour ago.

“So, Galinda –” Elphaba interrupts whatever she’s saying about The Tower card. “Where is it you’re heading?”

“Emerald City,” she trills back, feet kicking a little from where they don’t quite reach the floor.

They pass a sign that tells them they have 105 miles left to go.

“So. The Tower card –”

19. Detective.

There isn’t much that is known about The Pink Bandit.

She robs banks, that much is true, and she leaves a calling card that is covered in glitter. Sometimes she hands out candy to the hostages–it depends on her mood–and she always enters the same way.

“It’s good to see me, isn’t it?”

She cuts CCTV seconds before entering the banks and in all the time she’s been doing it only one clear picture exists of her.

Witnesses say they don’t feel threatened by her.

Elphaba holds the picture in her hand and stares at it hard.

“I’ll get you.”

20. Mayday.

She’s never flown before.

People scream around her and smoke fills the cabin. She can hear kids crying in rows behind her and when she dares to look out of the window she can see flames.

“Oh God,” the girl next to her cries and Elphaba reaches out, tangling her fingers with shaking ones and holds tight. “Oh my God.”

She can’t say that it’s going to be okay. When they’d gotten on the plane and the girl had sat next to her she’d been pleased. Hoped they could get to know each other.

A bang.

She’d never flown before.

21. Nurse

Galinda isn’t entirely sure how long it’s been since the young woman has been in the bed but it feels like forever.

She’s badly injured and Galinda hopes that she isn’t the nurse on duty who has to break the news to her. She’s beautiful and serene and Galinda really, really, hates conflict.

A murmur from the bed startles Galinda and she leans closer as green eyes blink open and meet hers. “Hello.”

“Hi,” the girl says, voice hoarse from inaction. “Where -”

“You’ve been injured,” Galinda says, but the woman is already closing her eyes again. “You rest. I’m here.”

22. Camp.

“I thought camp was supposed to be fucking fun,” Galinda pants and she can feel Elphaba’s damp shirt against her back, can feel how she’s trembling. “Why are there killers ?”

“How would I know?!”

“You’re the smart one, Elphie,” she frowns and she feels Elphaba laugh more than she hears her.

Another scream from across the campground and then silence.

“We need to move, Galinda. They’re going to find us,” Elphaba says and she reaches to hold her hand. “Are you coming?”

Galinda knows she won’t make it alone and she tightens her grip as she shakes.

“Lead the way.”

23. Regency.

She can’t look away. Not when the music starts; not when the back of her hand rests against Galinda’s as they dance; not when they separate.

“Who is she?” She asks Fiyero. He looks to where Galinda is looking and hums softly, both of them nodding at Lady Morrible and her husband as they pass.

“She’s from the Thropp family. Political connections with father,” he tells her. She doesn’t care. Only cares about the way her heart had skipped when they danced.

“Introduce me?”

Fiyero doesn’t hesitate and leads her over, introducing her confidently.

“Lady Elphaba Thropp? Miss Galinda Upland.”

24. Slayer.

Galinda has never liked being a vampire slayer. Sometimes she wishes she could be the vampire; no responsibilities, no burden, no savior-of-the-world prophecy on her shoulders.

Plus she could enjoy different fashion for centuries.

The more she thinks about it the more –

“Oof,” she drops to the floor, winded. “Come on.

“You made that too easy,” Elphaba says, straddling her hips. Galinda wants to scream. If there is another vampire more irritating than Elphaba Thropp she has yet to find it.

“It’s the only time I’ll let you top,” she quips and reaches up, kissing her deeply.

Prophecy be damned.

25. New Year.

Crowds gather to watch as the ball drops on TV. Elphaba lost her sister an hour ago. She’s somewhere in the crowd determined for a midnight kiss

She sips at her vodka-tonic, fingers wet with condensation and continues to watch the timer.

10. 9.

“Excuse me?” Elphaba turns and sees a tiny blonde. She’s stunning, all golden smiles and pink frills. “You’re beautiful.”

5. 4.

“Thank you.”

“I’m going to kiss you, by the way. I’ll have a terrible New Year if I don’t.”

2. 1.

She doesn’t know her name but she kisses Elphaba like she’s known her forever.
