Summary
Dream reflects on a traumatic event that occurred a thousand years, despite feeling as if it were nine and a half months ago in his perspective. He remembers confronting the bullies of his brother, Nightmare, only to face further cruelty. Haunted by pain and humiliation, Dream grapples with feelings of hatred toward his tormentors and guilt over the infant girl—a rabbit-skeleton hybrid—born from his trauma. As he struggles with his emotions, a dark voice urges him to eliminate the evidence of his suffering. In a moment of despair, he takes the baby's life, realizing too late the gravity of his actions as she turns to dust.
Meanwhile, Night Terror, witnessing the horror unfold, reflects on Dream's troubling behavior since before his escape from imprisonment. He realizes Dream was raped and recalls how the guardian's nightmares intensified during that time. As Night Terror arrives on the scene, he finds Dream fainted, overcome by the trauma. Determined to help, he resolves to take Nightmare's place for Dream, acknowledging his responsibility to support him in this dark moment.
