Summary:

Vi helps a wounded Jinx despite her protests

Notes:

Not me on my way to put my vi/lest rare pair into everything I can

Also you can tell how bad my chronic pain is by how many whump fics I’ve been writing

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jinx hummed quietly as she stitched up her leg. Technically the mission had been a success, and the cut wasn’t too deep. She’d never been much good at fixing herself up, but she’d had enough practice at this point to keep from causing any more problems than some scarring. The pain wasn’t too bad either with all the shimmer running through her system.

Vi still gave her a look of concern when she saw all the blood.

“Shit, Powder,” she said. “I didn’t see you get hurt.”

Jinx looked at her, cocking her head a bit.

“You’re hurt too,” she pointed out. “Your eye got a real nice shiner.”

“Who cares about that?” Vi said. “I’m not bleeding.”

Jinx shrugged.

“It’s fine.”

Then she threw up. It happened so fast she hardly had time to move her head so she would get anything on her clothes. Of course, Vi was there in an instant, holding her hair back.

“That’s weird,” Jinx muttered.

“No, it’s not,” Vi said. “You’re probably in shock. Besides, I bet you didn’t eat much today.”

Jinx couldn’t deny that.

“I need to finish my stitches,” she said.

“I’ll do that,” Vi said. “Then you’re coming with me, and I’m making some tea to soothe your stomach, okay?”

“Okay. You’re really nice, Vi.”

“Yeah, you’re definitely suffering from shock. Or blood loss.”

Later, Jinx found herself sitting down in Vi’s tiny kitchen, nursing a cup of tea. Vi was right; she had been in shock, and the adrenaline rush had faded. Now there was a dull throbbing to her leg, and her throat stung from the vomit. She hated that. Why did she always have to get sick?

Still, the tea was soothing, and it was always nice to be taken care of. Vi really was a good sister to her when it came down to it.

“So, what’s the diagnosis, doc?” Jinx asked. “Give it to me straight. How many days do I have left?”

“You’ll be fine, but I couldn’t save the pants,” Vi said, picking a bag of ice out of the fridge and placing it on her bruised face with a wince.

“Damn, that was my favorite pair,” Jinx grumbled.

She looked around the apartment. It was cramped and pretty shitty, but she noticed the flowers in a vase by the window and a clay figurine of some Ionian spirit in the center of the table. When Vi had escaped from prison, she’d originally stayed in the Firelight bunkers, refusing a place to herself. She’d never bothered with posters or lights, apparently preferring to live the same austere lifestyle she had in Stillwater. Neither Jinx nor Ekko had thought that was good for her, so they were both happy when she found an apartment for cheap in Firelight territory. Apparently what she hadn’t told them was that the apartment came with a roommate. A lady roommate.

“So, what’s her name?” Jinx asked.

Vi frowned.

“Excuse me?”

“The Ionian girl you’re living with. The one who smokes shimmer.“

“How the fuck did you—?”

“Flowers, Ionian statue, smell of shimmer-laced tobacco in the air,” Jinx said, smirking.

“Since when were you a detective?”

“Are you in wuv with her?” Jinx asked, fluttering her eyelashes.

“Shut up,” Vi said. “And no, we’re just fucking.”

“Ew!” Jinx said. “I didn’t need to hear that.”

“You asked,” Vi said, smiling. “Her name’s Lest. She’s one of our informants, actually.”

“A girlfriend and a place to yourself. You practically have an actual life now.”

“She’s not my—never mind. You’re going to tease me with this every chance you get, huh?”

Jinx nodded eagerly.

“Whatever,” Vi said. “Do you still feel like you’re going to throw up?”

She shook her head.

“Nope. I’m much better now. I can probably go back home to Ekko without passing out even a little bit!”

Vi frowned.

“That’s not really comforting. Let me walk you back, okay? Just to be safe.”

“Geez, always the worrywart,” Jinx said, but she didn’t protest too much. “Hey, Vi?”

“Yeah?”

“Thanks for all this. You’re not all bad, you know?”

“Such praise. Come on. You’d better not pass out.”

“No promises, sis.”

Notes:

Jinx beating the homophobia allegations. But seriously, I think she’d be quite happy for Vi if she was dating anyone but an enforcer
