Work Text:
in this dream i have
no age no name
i have the body of a doll sitting in a house the size of a box.
a wall is missing and the lights are all out
words are written on the wall but i can’t read them.
in this dream i have
a new body a new heart
bones that pop and crack when i try to walk
a hand to crush my throat when the tears threaten my sight.
in this dream i have
no hope no dream
a blank canvas to work on
in this house we can try again—
i’ll pull out my heart to show honesty,
hang it in the kitchen with the dried herbs and the smoked meat
and because i am good i’ll pretend to
not know what it means when you
say my name with a
twisted tongue and i’ll say that
no one has ever hurt me when you ask me who i am.
