The scene after Oz was saved by Karadec

Summary:

I just watched the finale and I'm kind of mad that we didn't get to see Daphnes reaction to Oz being safe!! Like she was so worried doing CPR and then he was just back in the office, and everything was good as new. So I made a short oneshot about what Daphne's reaction would be!

Work Text:

The adrenaline is still running through her veins after seeing Oz trapped, not breathing, dead. The fact that she was holding his dead body and the agonizing minutes of doing CPR with no result keeps flashing through her mind, even though he is awake and covered in towels.

“I can ride with him.” Daphne says as she pushes her way to the back of the ambulance, standing next to Oz who is wrapped in a blue towel and a yellow towel in his hair.

“What about your car?” Karadec sincerely asks.

“I’ll… call someone to pick it up or something.” She says before hopping into the ambulance.

The ambulance feels a lot more cramped than it used to look, and she can’t seem to stop staring at Oz’s chest; just to make sure it is still going up and down. He unfortunately has a towel over his chest so it's a lot harder for her to see if it's moving.

“Daph,” Oz says, peering her attention away to his face. “I’m breathing, I’m okay.” He stifles a laugh, as the look on Daphne’s face is serious.

“I know.” Daphne says, smiling before shortly returning her gaze back to his chest to make sure.

Oz chuckles before moving his towel off his chest, “Hope that helps,” the cold of the ambulance is worth it for him.

Daphne doesn’t respond but she just peers over to his eyes, who are not looking at her so she peers away returning back to his chest.

As Oz is allowed visitors in his hospital bed the first one is unsurprisingly Daphne who finds a seat close to him, ready to sit down for all of eternity.

“Hey man,” Karadec says as he walks towards him, holding some white flowers before awkwardly putting them on the bed. “Hope you feel better. Scary out there.”

After some small exchanges and the Morgan gifts the two leave to go look for more clues at the house, Daphne was told to sit this one out until her partner is back on the streets so she is half asleep in the chair, trying to act awake.

“Daphne, you don’t have to stay here, go home; go sleep.”

“No, No I’m fine.” She repositions herself to sit taller, looking at him or more so the machine next to him that reads his active heart rate. “Plus, I’ll keep you company. The hospital is an awful place to be alone at.”

As Oz knows he isn’t going anywhere with this he complies, “Works for me. Well can you atleast put on some show instead of this pageant?” He points to the remote on the other side of the room.

“Yeah, of course.” She grabs the remote, and puts on the first show on cable before settling back in her chair.

As Oz looks infested in the drama that is going on in the show, the wife is telling her husband that she wants a divorce, she’s pregnant and she is a lesbain. As the new wife Carol comes into screen Daphne tries to get comfortable in the room chairs, to no avail as the cheap leather and wood is not a good combination.

“Daph, just sit next to me.”

“On the hospital bed? What if I break one of your things…?” She motions towards the heart monitor.

“You can’t break that, come on those seats suck.” He pats a spot next to him as she nods and climbs next to him, staying above the covers.

As Daphne sits next to him, the lesbains are telling the husband that they want to have the baby's last name as their own combined, leaving him utterly out. Oz waves a nurse over asking for her to dim the lights, as it's hard to see the show with the blinding lights over his head. Oz repositions himself to be sitting up to get a better view of the show before lowering the volume as it's too loud for his ears.

“Man these girls are doing this man dirty huh?” Oz asks after the girls ignore the husband out of the name decision even though the baby is not born.

With no response he looks over his shoulder to see Daphne almost asleep, her head resting on her hand. Oz nudges her and pushes her hand away indicating his shoulder, after a lot of hesitance she does comply; falling asleep on his shoulder.

After the episode ended and some different show came on that Oz lost interest in, and the fact that the weight on his shoulder was starting to hurt. Instead of waking her up he just gently lifted her head before he laid down, letting her gently fall back down; her head now in the knook of his neck and shoulder.

A nurse comes in after a bit, “Sir, visiting hours are over.” She indicates to Daphne asleep on him.

“She is a patient, she was allowed to go to my room.” He lies, seamlessly to her.

“Oh okay, sorry for the intrusion.” The nurse smiles before exiting back out.

It was a little strange the nurse just believed that as Daphne was still in her dress from the gala she left, but maybe some patients get to not wear a dumb hospital gown like Oz is wearing.

As Daphne sleeps Oz lets the thoughts take the better of him and how he slightly wishes someone was here to take a photo of them, for Oz to put somewhere in his home. Though it seems weird to him, it’s also a little comforting. The fact that Daphne is asleep inches away from him definitely helps his comfort levels.

Daphne never snores, like his ex-girlfriend did; and she doesn’t drool like his mother used to, and she looks real pretty in her sleep unlike his cousin who looked like a troll. Before he could think more about random, meaningless things Daphne does stir, meaning she is slowly waking up; putting an end to the comfort.

Daphne mutters an apology as she looks around, realizing she is laying on Oz.

“It’s nothing, you needed your sleep.”

“Yeah, but I mean you’re the one in the hospital.”

“Yeah but I’m alive because of you, so you deserve some rest.”

Daphne smiles, still not laying back down but she does sit next to his laying body. Oz sits up and wraps his arm around Daphne, who does lean in onto his shoulder as a new show comes on and Oz won’t be paying attention to this show at all.
