Work Text:

Bucky wasn't exactly the Valentine's Day type. Never had been.

But then came Sam.

And suddenly, Bucky found himself standing in the middle of his kitchen, staring at the heart-shaped cake pan ( he bought it just for this day)

Across town, Sam was having a similar crisis, standing in a flower shop, staring at a bouquet of red and white roses.

"Too much?" he asked the florist, holding up the arrangement like it was a bomb about to go off.

"Classic choice," the florist said with a shrug. "Safe."

Safe.
hmm
Sam squinted at the bouquet.
Maybe too safe.
He wanted something personal.. something special

Something Bucky wouldn't expect.

But then again, Bucky wouldn't expect flowers at all, so maybe that was exactly right ..

Meanwhile, Bucky had managed to successfully crack an egg without getting it on his metal fingers..
small victories.

He didn't cook much, but after years of watching Steve make pancakes, he figured a cake couldn't be that hard. Right?

This is stupid, he told himself. But then he thought about the way Sam laughed when he was surprised ..

Yeah, okay. Maybe this wasn't so stupid.

Later That Night

Bucky had just finished setting up. The cake.. surprisingly nice - sat on the table, decorated with a simple swirl of frosting. He'd even lit a candle. Not because he was very romantic or anything, but because it made things look fancy.
and special - for Sam.

Finally the door opened.

"Buck—" Sam stopped mid-step, eyes widening at the setup. "You made a cake?"

"Don't make a big deal out of it," Bucky grumbled, crossing his arms. "Just figured you might want somethin' sweet."

Sam didn't respond right away. Instead, he pulled something from behind his back. A bouquet .. flowers ..

Bucky blinked. "You got -?"

"Flowers." Sam grinned . "For you."

There was a moment of silence. Then Bucky looked at Sam. "You got me flowers?"

"You baked me a cake, man. We're even."

Bucky smiled - and he took the flowers- Sam got him flowers ..
"No one's ever gotten me flowers before."

Sam grinned, stepping closer. "First time for everything babe "

Cap leaned in, pressing a soft kiss against his cheek.

"Happy Valentine's, Buck."

Bucky looked at him, then at the flowers in his hands, and then back at Sam.

"Yeah," he said, voice quieter than usual. "You too."

Sam held his gaze for a second longer, then smirked. "So, are we eating this cake or just staring at it?"

Bucky set the flowers down on the counter. "Depends. Are you gonna keep looking at me like that, or are you gonna kiss me properly?"

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Oh? You want a deep Valentine kiss now?"

Bucky shrugged, but of course .. "Figured I earned one."

Sam didn't hesitate. He stepped in, one hand curling around the back of Bucky's neck as he pressed their lips together - soft, warm and deep

Bucky let himself sink into it, hands resting on Sam's waist, holding him there like he was afraid to let go too soon.

When they finally pulled apart, They still looked at each other.

Sam ran his fingers lightly over Bucky's jaw.

"Tastes sweet."

Bucky blinked, licking his lips "The cake?"

Sam's smile was all over his face ..
"Nah. You."
