Maybe, Just Maybe

Summary:

Jane and her family move to a new village where she has no friends and no connections. But maybe, just maybe, things would be alright.

Notes:

Day 14 of Femslash February is Valentine's Day/Free Day, and I decided to write today! I went with jane D/Shanti! This is very pre-relationship, just a touch of femslash here ^^

Work Text:

Jane had moved with her family to the small village, and it was hard to fit in. Her younger brother had no issue, because he was so little and made friends easily, but it was hard for Jane.

She spent her days alone, and when valentine's Day rapidly approached, she didn't pay it much mind; it was just another regular day to her, now that she was living so far from her old friends and school.

Her parents had tried to cheer her up a little bit.

Her father had left a teddy bear on her bed; her mother had made her homemade pancakes with pink syrup that morning. Even her little brother Danny had left his little Peter Pan toy on her bed, saying that he wanted to be Jane's valentine. She had laughed at that, but only when she was alone.

Now, she sat in a hidden spot near her family's small home, close to the bridge that led out of the village and into the forest. It always amazed her, and she would spend hours just sitting and staring at it, drawing little birds that she would see or bugs or flowers.

She was lonely.

Of course, she was lonely.

But making friends wasn't easy when she usually wanted to be left alone. All the kids in the village already had their little cliques, and she knew she wouldn't fit into any of their expectations. She didn't have any cool stories to tell from home, and she didn't have anything interesting to really talk about.

Still, she had noticed one girl watching her from time to time. Maybe it was with pity, or maybe it was with intrigue, but Jane did her best to ignore it.

However, as she made her way to her secret spot today, she saw the other girl setting something down. As soon as she spotted Jane, she waved and smiled and ran off towards the center of the village.

Jane sat down in her spot, finding a few wildflowers tied together by their stems and a letter. Eagerly, she sat down and read over it over and over again.

She learned that the girl's name was Shanti, and that Shanti's family had asked her family to dinner that night, to celebrate the holiday and really welcome them to the village.

For the first time since moving there, Jane found herself excited for something. Maybe, just maybe, things were going to turn out alright, and maybe, just maybe, she would find something special in the pretty girl named Shanti.
