Summary:

How I imagine Rafayel would react to accidentally finding a notebook you (MC) decorated the cover of with his name. Very early relationship.

Work Text:

~ ~ Did you really think he wouldn’t say anything about it? ~ ~

You weren’t expecting to bump into him on your way back home from the café, having taken some time from your day off to meet up with a couple friends. However, as you were leaving, you quite literally bumped into him, your face spreading with heat as your things fell from your hands and scattered over the pavement.

“Is this what I’m paying you for, Miss Bodyguard? And here I thought you were supposed to be protecting me?” he teased, and you looked up in both surprise and relief to see it was someone you knew instead of a stranger.

“Rafayel! Ah, well… I was training you. Preparing you for any sneak attacks,” you quipped back, “Obviously you still have a lot to work on.”

He grinned, then bent down, “Here. Let me help.”

You were busy picking up the colored pencils that had scattered and rolled away when you both froze in place. At the exact same time you remembered the existence of the journal, he had seen it.

Quickly swiping it up and burying it in your arms, you pray that you imagined his reaction to it. But when you both straighten up again, he looks at you with a big smile and you know you’re in for it.

“What in the world was that?” he asks loudly, making your cheeks flush with an even more intense heat.

“What was what?”

You try to play dumb but, before you realize it, he’s already plucked the journal from your hands in a fluid swipe, making you gasp and frown.

“It’s just as I thought. You’re soooo obsessed with me!” he teases, raising the notebook higher and out of your reach.

“It’s always nice to have admirers. So rarely do I get to be the muse, it’s a damn shame,” he continues, ignoring your flailing as he examines your work, “I really love the embellishments. Especially these little conch shells on the border. They’re not terribly original, but they’re still pretty cute.”

After a little more flailing and reaching on your behalf, he finally seems content with his critique of your handiwork, handing the journal back and watching you shove it into your backpack with a sideways glare in his direction.

He allows you to change the subject as you hang out a little while longer. However, just before you two part, he brings it up again with a wink.

“Don’t even worry about it. You should see some of the sketches I have of you lying around my studio. Those would definitely make you blush.”
