It wasn’t easy, being SecUnit’s least favorite human. Gurathin was pretty sure he no longer held that title, but SecUnit did seem to like pretending this when they spent time together. It was fine. It didn’t hurt anyone.
Well, SecUnit didn’t think it hurt anyone.
Gurathin had decided to let it continue thinking that, but it did hurt someone. It hurt Gurathin.
He wasn’t sure when his feelings had shifted from suspicion, to friendship, to something more, but it had. It was something he could never admit, because SecUnit could—would—never feel the same way. It just wasn’t in SecUnit’s nature. And Gurathin wouldn’t accept it anyway. SecUnit had too much to deal with to consider…romance. It barely tolerated everyone’s insistence that it was a person. It would be downright unethical to—
Well. Anyway. A crush never hurt anyone.
As long as he ignored it, it at least wouldn’t hurt the one Gurathin cared about most. As long as he never acted on it, the only person he could hurt was himself.
A crush, held tightly to one’s breast, never hurt anyone.
Or so Gurathin tried to believe. It was harder and harder every day to ignore, but he had to do it, for SecUnit’s sake. It could never know.
