Work Text:

Katsuki has had enough. February fourteenth for the longest time has been just another day, an annoying one sure but it wasn’t exactly special. This year though things are different, this year he has… a boyfriend? Was Izuku his boyfriend? What does having a boyfriend even mean? They still do all the same things they’ve done their whole lives, they spar, they bicker, they fight together, eat together, watch movies together, sleep together. Nothing has really changed, well some things have changed. Katsuki lowers his face into the suit of his neck to hide the blush that creeps into his skin (no one has told him that his ears get red first) as he thinks of the things that have changed. The way Izuku wakes up after a night of strenuous activity rumpled, covered in nail marks and bites and still partially asleep. How he walks up behind Katsuki in the kitchen and wraps his fingers around the blonde’s waist, kissing his shoulders, apologising softly for being too rough, kissing his neck, wishing his a good morning, kissing his back begging him to come back to bed for a few minutes longer.

“Oi!” The voice is accompanied by a smack to his shoulders and Katsuki blinks himself out of his daydreams just before tripping over a small child who’s looking up at him with stars in his eyes. “Look where you’re going Dynamight.” Jirou hisses at him rolling her eyes when he looks back at her still confused. She crouches down to talk to the child and Katsuki needs to take a minute to come back down to earth.

When the child finally giggles at something Jirou said and runs off back to his mom she stands back up and gives him a look, he knows the look. He’s about to get told off.

“Don’t wanna hear it ears.” He snaps before she can.

“Too fucking bad stop daydreaming about your boyfriend and let’s go, I don’t wanna be stuck on patrol all of V-day.” She says dragging him along down their route.

Boyfriend . There the word was again, it was all over the place today.

Happy Valentines Day! Buy one get one free for you and that special man in your life.

It’s Valetines Day and here we keep you and your boyfriend satisfied!

20% off on V-Day purchases for those special boyfriends out there!

“Katsuki!”

“What?!”

“What’s going on in your head dude come on!”

“....What makes a boyfriend do you think?” Katsuki asks after a moment of silence, falling into step with her.

“What kinda question?”

“Just answer.”

“Well, everything Midoriya and you do together I’d say.”

“I wasn’t asking about that!” Katsuki exclaims his ears reddening once more.

“Yeah okay and I’m straight,” She responded snorting. “What are you going doing today?”

“...I don’t know…” Katsuki admits running a hand through his hair.

“What?! Since when do you not have something prepared a month in advance? You’re slipping up Dynamight.” She teases back as they round a corner to step into a convenience store. “Wait here I’ll get the Onigiri.”

Katsuki leans against the door, waving awkwardly at the cashier who seems to be rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet from excitement. He pulls out his phone and is immediately greeted with a torrent of notifications all from Izuku’s official hero twitter.

“I wanna suck the skin off your-” Katsuki stops reading immediately and opens up the damn app. What the fuck is going on?

Katsuki Bakugo isn’t usually a jealous person, he knows that Izuku has always been a little bit crazy about him. He knows that Izuku basically worships the ground he walks on and he knows that there’s no one who can take Izuku from him but that doesn’t mean he’s not human. As much as he hates it he still falls victim to human emotions every now and then (more often than he’s willing to admit) and jealousy was no different.

“Why’s your face red?” Jirou asked when she returned with the food. She peered into his phone when he didn’t answer and bent over laughing.

“WHAT?!” Katsuki snapped, a little too loud for comfort. “What?” He tried again.

She smiled at him and shook her head in response as she paid for their snacks. “It’s the Valentines Day marketing thing Dynamight.” She said waving to the cashier as they left the store. Once they were outside, Jirou put her hand through the grocery bag and stepped up closer to Katsuki. “Uh up there,” she said pointing to an empty balcony opposite them.

“Alright,” Katsuki response was immediate. They had been patrolling together for years now and one of his favorite parts about it was when they could take their breaks together. The ritual had started years ago, get convenience store snacks, Katsuki would fly them up to a balcony or a terrace and they would hang out there for the twenty minutes they were allowed to break for. It was a moment of calm in an otherwise hectic job, something that helped to ground him.

Once they had landed on the terrace in question he loosened his hold on her and let her slip down to the ground, settling down cross-legged himself.

“What Valentines Day marketing thing?” Katsuki asked her, allowing her to help remove the heavy gauntlets on his arm.

“The anonymous messages thing,” Jirou said not really focusing too hard on what she was doing. This too was routine for them, hell most things were. You can’t be as close friends as they were for over ten years and not fall into easy routines with most things. “Remember, we linked up those Strawpage things to our twitter accounts and fans could send anonymous messages.”

“That’s fucking stupid,” Katsuki grumbled tossing her one of the Onigiri’s and opening his own.

“I think it’s cute.”

“You think all this stupid shit is cute.”

“Okay mister everything I’ve ever loved has claw marks on it.”

“Fuck you.”

“You wish.”

“Gross Ears.”

“Why are you all pissed off anyway? Not like Midoriya’s flirting back with anyone.” Jirou pointed out opening up her own packet.

“That’s not the point.”

“The point is that you haven’t planned anything for today and you hate these people giving him so much attention when it should be you… right?” She asks in a knowing tone that makes Katsuki’s ears twitch.

“Fuck off.”

“Loser.”

Katsuki stretches his leg out to kick her, hard enough to tip her over but never hard enough to hurt her. “What are you doing with Yaomomo today?”

“She’s been wanting to go to this local art pop-up for a while but we haven’t had time so I called ahead and asked if we could rent out the space after closing hours.”

“The fuck? How did you pull that off?” Katsuki asked, his eyebrows raised in genuine surprise.

“Paying the staff overtime from my pocket, it’s fine I’ve been saving up to do something special for her anyway. Anyway, I wrote a new song for her so I’ll perform it once she’s done nerding out over all the art and then dinner.”

“You’ve got this shit figured out,” Katsuki admits grumbling and rubbing the back of his neck as he opens another Onigiri.

“I’m surprised you don’t.”

“It's our first Valentine's together I wasn't sure how much to do. He’s at school all day too so he’s probably gonna be tired by the time we’re both home… I don’t wanna make him feel like he has to do this shit if he’s not in the mood for it ya know?”

“I get that but Midoriya would do anything for you.”

“That’s the problem Kyoka.”

“No like, he’d enjoy doing anything as long as you’re there. OH!” She exclaimed suddenly sitting up and grabbing Katsuki by the arm, “Do a picnic! It’s a classic and you can buy the food on your way back.”

“Don’t be an idiot, it’ll be way too late by the time he gets home for a picnic.”

“What time does he get home?”

“Like seven usually.”

“They’re working teachers like dogs god damn.”

“Izuku chooses to stay back later most of the time, says he won’t get any work done at home.” The fond smile and roll of his eyes giving away how endearing he found it. To be fair he found most everything Izuku did endearing.

“Do an indoor picnic.”

“That’s just dinner.”

“Where is your sense of wonder Katsuki Bakugo?” Jirou asked emphathically throwing her hands in the air and standing up to face him. “Get his favourite foods, chocolate covered strawberries, Katsudon, alcohol, the works and when you get home you can set up your living room like a fort. Bring those little lights you guys have on the balcony inside, string the blankets across your furniture and put down a blanket. It’ll be cute!”

Katsuki stared at her, a little surprised at how viable this idea was, more so at how excited she was. “Momo’s turned you into some kind of love freak.”

Jirou blushes hard but makes no move to back down, “Well then all the more reason you should listen to me then!”

“I didn’t say I wasn’t going to.”

Jirou cheers in response and Katsuki rolls his eyes, grateful for the friend he has and always will.

When Katsuki gets home it's six in the evening and the sun is low on the horizon, bathing their home in a warm orange glow. His hands are laden with packets; food, drinks, some special gifts he figured Izuku would enjoy and most importantly two small silver packets. Katsuki gets to work almost immediately, looking up instructions on how to make a large blanket fort on his laptop and turning the house upside down in his efforts to make the thing look as romantic as it does in the video. By the time he’s done and steps back to take in the whole picture it’s… well it’s not perfect. He scowls at the sight, the fort is up and the lights strung through provide a warm glow to the entire room but it’s not nearly as perfect as the final product in the video is. He checks the time, grumbling at the lack of time left to redo the whole thing. Maybe if he tore it all down really quickly he could pretend he hadn’t tried and failed to set it up. He’s a few seconds away from unclipping the first blanket from it’s perch when the front door opens and a familiar voice rings out through the house.

“Kacchan I’m home,” Izuku calls and Katsuki can already hear how tired the other man in.

Katsuki scowls at the imperfect surprise one last time before walking out to greet his boyfriend, “Hey nerd, took you long enough.” He says, grabbing Izuku’s face once he’s close enough to. “You look like a mess,” Katsuki points out before pressing his lips against Izuku’s, his heart fluttering slightly at the feeling of Izuku smiling against his lips. When he finally pulls back the dopey smile on the nerds face is enough to heat up Katsukis neck once more. He shoves the other boy away lightly, grabbing his case out of his hand and turning to walk back into the house.

“How was your day?” Katsuki asks, “All those anonymous messages keep you company?”

“Huh?” Izuku asked as he took off his shoes, carefully placing them near Katsuki’s before walking into the house.

“Don’t act stupid Deku.”

“Oooo Deku is it? Am I in trouble?”

“Depends.”

“On what Kacchan?” He asks, following Katsuki deeper into their home. He walks past the living room, his focus entirely on his boyfriend's back and completely missing the elaborate set-up waiting for him.

“On what you thought about those messages from those extras shitnerd.” Katsuki said, turning to glare at Izuku over his shoulder once he reached the threshold of their bedroom.

“Is Kacchan jealous?”

“Fuck off.”

“Happy Valentines Day Kacchan,” Izuku sings, “Got you something,” he whispers when he finally catches up to Katsuki in their bedroom. He wraps his arms around Katsuki’s waist, resting his chin on the blonde’s shoulder and holds out a small box, messily wrapped and topped with an orange bow.

“What sappy bullshit did you get huh?” Katsuki asks, trying to cover up just how much Izuku’s proximity still affected him. He eyed the messy gift and turned his head to look at the man clinging to his back, “You’re probably the only twenty-seven-year-old man who can’t wrap a gift properly.”

“Well that’s just not true Kacchan,” Izuku argues, a dopey smile still painted across his face as he watches Katsuki inspect the gift. “Most twenty-seven-year-old men can’t do anything well.”

“You trynna be average nerd?”

“Never Kacchan.”

“Good, I don’t-”

“You don’t put up with average,” Izuku completed for Katsuki, pressing a kiss against the blonde's neck and gesturing to the gist with his head. “Come on, open it.”

Katsuki held back a moan, resisting the urge to tilt his head to give Izuku further access. Instead, he fumbled with the messy packaging, careful not to rip it as he opened the gift and came face to face with a ring. “Izuku…”

“Not a proposal,” Izuku clarified, “wouldn’t ever be so cliche as to propose on Vday.” He chuckled letting go of Katsuki and walking around to take the ring from the box. “Just… a promise. That we’ll do it someday, when we’re both ready I’ll get you a real ring.” He said slipping the simple black band onto Katsuki’s finger.

“Who says you’ll be the one to get me a ring?”

“Who else would it be Kacchan?”

Katsuki tossed the box aside, backing Izuku up against the bedside table “I’m gonna be the one to propose first nerd don’t get it twisted.”

“No chance Kacchan you got to confess first!” Izuku exclaimed, his hands coming up to rest on Katsuki’s chest.

“If you wanted to win you shoulda hauled ass instead of fumbling through comphet for a month.”

“Ughhh Kacchan you promised you wouldn’t bring that up anymore,” Izuku groaned burying his face in Katsuki’s chest.

“Moron,” Katsuki mumbled, unable to keep the smile off his face. “Thank for the gift Izuku,” he added after a moment of comfortable silence, “I love you.”

“I love you too Kacchan, no one else. Ever.” Izuku promised, hoping to ease Katsuki’s worries no matter how silly they may be. He pulled back to look up at Katsuki, the slight difference in their height becoming more pronounced when he was so close to the blonde. “Sooooo…”

“Yeah yeah come on,” Katsuki said rolling his eyes and pulling Izuku out of their bedroom and into the living room, “It’s not perfect or anything, didn’t have enough time so don’t be too disappointed. I’ll cook dinner for us tomorrow or something-”

Katsuki stopped rambling once they entered the living room, he didn’t have much of a choice really with the way Izuku gasped aloud and turned to look at him with teary eyes.

“Don’t-” Katsuki trailed off, his voice softening at the look in Izuku’s eyes, “Don’t fucking cry nerd.” He said wiping a tear that fell.

“Kacchan this is so lovely,” Izuku murmured reaching up to grab Katsuki’s face and pulling him down. “You’re so lovely,” he added when their faces were a hair's breadth apart before closing the final bit of distance left between them.

Katsuki’s eyes remained open for a few seconds after their lips met, always lingering a few moments longer just to see Izuku a little while more. Always needing just a little more. When he finally closed his eyes, he placed his hands on Izuku’s hips pulling him flush against his body. You’d think he would be used to it by now, having spent the better part of the last two years kissing and being kissed by Izuku you’d think Katsuki would be used to it by now but to this day, every time their lips met Katsukis heart stuttered in his chest. When they finally broke apart Katsuki’s entire face was red, if he could stand to look at Izuku a second longer without melting into the ground he might have noticed a similar red hue staining the other mans cheeks as well.

“Come on there’s more,” Katsuki muttered pulling Izuku into living room. He got on his knees at the entrance to the fort and crawled inside, waiting for Izuku inside the plush structure.

“Kacchan when did you even have time to do all this?” Izuku asked as he followed the blonde inside, taking off his tie and suit jacket on the way in.

“After work,” Katsuki replied reaching up to undo the top few buttons on Izuku’s shirt as they got comfortable. He pulled out a temperature-controlled picnic basket he had hidden under a sheet, rolling his eyes as Izuku gasped again, “Stop gasping nerd.”

“Aw but Kacchan this is so cute,” Izuku protested reaching to open the basket only to have his hands slapped away. “Kacchaaan!” He whined, making a show of cradling his hand close to his chest.

“Drama queen,” Katsuki said rolling his eyes fondly as he opened up the basket and took out the neatly packaged bento boxes, “I didn’t have time to cook them myself but-”

“No need Kacchan you cook all the time anyway,” Izuku interrupted taking the boxes from Katsuki’s hand and place them on the floor. “These look like-”

“Yeah those All Might ones my mom used to buy for us when you would stay over.” Katsuki confirmed, focusing all his attention on the basket so he wouldn’t have to see the fond expression that was no doubt taking over Izuku’s face. “Figured you’d like some wine too.”

“Oh I love this one!” Izuku exclaimed taking the bottle from his as well as he dug around for the glasses. In truth Izuku has no preference for wine, he spent all of his college years drinking the cheapest, strongest alcohol he could get his hands on so his palette wasn’t exactly refined but this particular brand. Grace Koshu wine, nothing special or fancy but it was the wine that Katsuki bought when they celebrated Izuku’s graduation together. The memory of the two of them sitting together on the floor of Katsuki’s old shitty studio apartment, drinking wine from paper cups and drunkenly planning their futures together had been enough to cement that particular brand as his favourite. Sue him, he’s a sucker for anything Kacchan does and lucky for him Kacchan is always doing something or the other.

Katsuki pulls out two wine glasses and places them down on the ground beside the bottle, “Open it I need to get one more thing.” He said gesturing to the bottle before crawling out of the fort and disappearing.

Izuku rolled up the sleeves of his work shirt and unscrewed the bottle, smiling to himself as he poured two glasses and set it aside. He leaned back against the sofa and looked around the fort, all their blankets and sheets seemed to have been tied together and draped over their larger or higher hanging furniture creating enough space for them to sit comfortable without being overwhelmed or feeling caged in. Izuku let out a happy sigh, this kind of thing, being in such a small space would usually freak him out. Set his nerves on edge and set off the voice in his head that warned him about getting trapped, getting buried, losing. He shook his head, as the twinkling fairy lights caught his attention and he stood up on his knees to fix a portion of the string that had fallen off a hook.

“What are you doing nerd?” Katsuki asked as he kneeled at the front of the fort again.

“Nothing Kacchan,” Izuku quipped turning his head to look at Katsuki, his eyes squinting at the silver packets in the blondes hands. “Whats that?”

“Getting to it,” Katsuki responded crawling back inside and sitting down, “sit down.” He instructed grabbing Izuku’s wrist to pull him back onto the ground beside him. “This ones for you.”

Izuku brows furrowed even further when Katsuki pushed one of the packets into his hand and kept the other to himself. He stared at for a few seconds before a memory clicked into place and his eyes widened into saucers on his face. “Are these?”

“Yeah…”

“Kacchan!”

“Shut up it’s not a big deal.”

“Kacchan this is sooo cute,” Izuku cooed placing the packet on the ground and leaning forward on his arms to press a kiss to the corner of Katsukis mouth. “Thank you so much for doing all this Kacchan.”

“Y-yeah!” Katsuki nearly yells, his palms getting sweaty at the soft tone of voice and the gentle look in Izuku’s eyes. He shoves the boy off, hands lingering on his chest a while longer than necessary before picking up his own packet. “Let’s just open them.”

“Okay Kacchan,” Izuku says sitting back down on crossed legs, practically bouncing with excitement as he picks up the packet again. “Together?”

“Obviously.”

Izuku squirmed happily as he took the packet in two hands, holding it carefully like it was made of gold and not plastic. “Ready? One,”

“Two,” Katsuki muttered, the tips of his ears as red as his eyes as he held the packet close to Izuku’s.

“Three,” Izuku finished. Both men opened the packets together, tearing the upper corners down the middle until the shiny embossed cardstock came into view. Izuku broke into a fit of giggles almost immediately at the sight of his and when he looked up to see Katsuki’s cheeks stained red as he stared at his card his laughter got louder. “I can’t believe this Kacchan.”

“Yeah well…” Katsuki trailed off, unable to keep the smile forming on his lips away as he looked down at his own card. Izuku in his hero suit, smile as wide as Katsuki had ever seen it and his arm pointed towards the camera, giving it an enthusiastic thumbs up. Above it sat “DEKU” in bright green and at the base of the card were the words “Save to Win” in orange. Katsuki looked over at the card in Izuku’s hand and his smile wavered as his lip wobbled slightly.

Izuku’s card featured Katsuki in his hero suit, arms crossed over his chest and shoulders pulled back, smirking at the camera like he knew how excited a fan would be to pull his card and he was proud of it. At the top mirroring Izuku’s card it said “GEMG Dynamight” and at the bottom “Win to Save.”

“Aw Kacchan don’t be sad! We can exchange, you can have your card!” Izuku exclaimed placing the card down and rushing to cup Katsuki’s face in his hands.

“Not sad shitnerd,” Katsuki mumbled, making no move to get out of Izuku’s hold despite his harsh words.

“They why?”

“Just happy.”

“Kacchan…”

“Shut up.”

Izuku laughed and kissed Katsuki again, at the corners of his lips, his cheeks, his nose and finally his closed eyelids. “I love you Kacchan,” He said pressing his forehead against the blonde.

“I love you too Izuku.” Katsuki responded, his voice low and heavy as he closed his eyes and breathed in the familiar scent of Izuku’s shampoo and his natural musk. “Let’s eat,” he said clearing his throat and opening his eyes, “before it gets cold.”

“Okay Kacchan,” Izuku said sitting back and handing his card to Katsuki. He watched the way Katsuki’s fingers handled the cards, gentle so as not to crease anything, careful not to touch the shiny side before they could get it laminated. He sighed to himself as his eyes following Katsuki’s hands, the black ring nestled against the skin of his ring finger like that’s where it belonged. Like its where Izuku belonged, in Kacchan’s hands, pressed against Kacchan’s side, making Kacchan happy, forever being beside Kacchan.

“What nerd?” Katsuki asked as he passed Izuku his bento.

“What?”

“Quit starin at me.”

Izuku blinked a few times before a teasing smile formed on his lips, “but you’re soooo pretty Kacchan.”

“Fuck off,” Katsuki grumbled pushing Izuku’s face away.

“Aw but you aaarreee~” Izuku drawled again, shuffling closed so their knees touched.

“Stop flirting with me and eat your food fuckface.” Katsuki said, trying to keep his tone authoritative but he should know better. After all these years Katsuki should know better than to act tough in front of Izuku, although sometimes Izuku wonders if he does it just so Izuku will keep flirting with him. To see how far he would go with it.

“How can I stop flirting with my boyfriend when he’s so so pretty Kacchan?”

Boyfriend.

“Yeah?  Your boyfriend must be pretty perfect then if you’re such a moron about him,” Katsuki retorted scoffing slightly.

“Perfect?” Izuku mused leaning back on his arm and looking up at the sheets like he was considering the word, “I’d say so, he’s got a perfectly beautiful face and a perfectly strong quirk and a perfectly intelligent brain and he’s perfectly sexy and perfectly mine.” He finished tilting his head to look at Katsuki who was as red as Kirishima’s hair on the first day after a touch up. “Perfectly adorable when he’s blushing too.”

“Shut up nerd you’re such a sap,” Katsuki grumbled, grabbing Izuku by the collar and pulling him closer. The bento’s lay forgotten beside them.

“And what are you gonna do about that Kacchan?” Izuku asked, his voice a low whisper as his eyes flickered down to Katsuki’s lips.

“You cocky piece of shit,” Katsuki’s own voice was low and gravely, his tongue flicking out to wet his lips before he pulled Izuku down, crashing their lips together in a mess of tongue and teeth.

“Perfect,” Izuku mumbled when they finally parted, a string of saliva keeping them connected. “Are you really super hungry?”

Katsuki looked around for a moment at the food and the movie he had set up before looking back at Izuku “Fuck the bento,” he growled letting go of Izuku’s shirt only to push him down onto his back. “Got better things to eat anyway.”
