Sticks and Stones

Summary:

Peter goes on a field trip! But not to Stark Industries. Which should make things alright, but when the teen gets to the school, he realizes he won't be alone. Both Matt and Tony are chaperones and suddenly, Peter knows this trip will be a disaster.

Chapter 1: Rooftops and Burritos

Chapter Text

Peter shivered as the cold, January wind nipped at the lower half of his face. His mask was partially off so he could enjoy the burrito Deadpool got him. He was getting cold from how long they’d stopped moving for though.

“You good, kid?” Daredevil asked from his left.

“Yeah,” Peter sighed.

“Doesn’t sound like it!” Deadpool sang. It came out slightly garbled on account of the burrito he stuffed in his face.

“I’m just thinking,” the teen laughed at Deadpool’s bad manners and the food bits stuck to his mouth. He laughed even harder when he looked over to Daredevil and found his face full of absolute disgust.

“Chew with your mouth closed, you ass,” Daredevil growled. “It sounds awful,” he shivered, “when you don’t.”

“Aw! But you love it!”

“I sure as shit don’t.”

“Admit it!”

“I really, truly, hate it. More than I hate you, actually!” Daredevil turned to Deadpool with what Peter was sure was supposed to be a smile, but was definitely a grimace.

“And this,” Peter gestured to the air, “is why you two can’t sit next to each other anymore.”

“And I,” Deadpool copied Peter’s gesture, “think that rule is stupid.”

“You’re both idiots,” Daredevil grumbled, taking another (normal sized) bite of his burrito.

“Oh, no! DD, you ruined it!” Peter complained after finishing the last of his food.

“I rest my case.”

“Don’t go all lawyer on us, that’s boring!” Deadpool leaned his head back to whine at the stars.

“Deal with it,” Daredevil snarled. “And you,” he pointed to Peter, softening his tone. “Tell us what’s wrong. We could help.”

“I highly doubt it, but I’ll tell you anyway. Mostly because you’d figure out a way to have me tell you anyway, so really I’m doing you a favor and-”

“Spidey,” Daredevil cut him off softly.

“Thank you,” Peter continued after hearing a small ‘you’re welcome’ from Daredevil. “My science classes are taking a trip to the New York Hall of Science-”

“And?” Deadpool interrupted, tilting his head to the side. “Isn’t that A Fun?”

“Grammer,” Daredevil whispered.

“Yes,” Peter laughed, “except for the fact that Flash’s dad will be a chaperone.”

“Your bully?” Daredevil and Deadpool said together.

“Yup. Oh! And one other person, Tony Richerdson. He is my adoptive parent, apparently,” Peter said as if he wasn’t just a bit worried about a random person claiming to be his parent coming on a school trip.

“… Spidey?” Daredevil asked in that deceptively calm voice he used when Peter had done something especially stupid.

“Yes?” Peter asked tentatively. He moved slightly closer to Deadpool, just in case.

“You don’t have an adoptive parent.” Daredevil said slowly. He offered the few bites of his burrito he had left to Peter who happily took it.

“Nope,” Peter said around the food in his mouth.

“So-” Daredevil started, but Deadpool cut in.

“Oh so Spidey can talk with his mouth full and I can’t!?”

“Yes, because he has a heart of gold and you don’t,” Daredevil glared at the mercenary.

“That’s so unfair!” Deadpool whined as he draped himself against Peter’s side making Peter laugh.

“Anyway, why aren’t you saying anything about the parent?” Daredevil asked.

“I’m curious. I wanna see what happens.” Peter shrugged, dislodging Deadpool.

“Sounds like an awful fucking idea,” Deadpool sounded all too happy and Peter knew he was planning something. Daredevil spoke up before Peter could ask though.

“Just don’t get kidnapped again,” he sighed.

“It’s only happened like seven times!” Peter crossed his arms and tried to defend himself.

“Only!?” Daredevil barked, glaring at him. “That’s a lot of kidnappings for ‘only.’”

“Most of them aren’t my fault!”

“So some of them are!?”

“Wait, no. I didn’t mean it like that- Ow!” Peter held a hand up to where Daredevil had hit the back of his head.

“You deserved it. Besides, you’ll heal. Remind me again why can’t we beat him up?”

“Who? Flash?” Peter asked, continuing after the other two nodded. “My school can’t know I hang out with you guys. Daredevil is fine in civies, but Deadpool… People would recognize you and figure out who I am. I love you guys, but I can’t risk it.”

“Aw! But-” Deadpool complained.

“Nope.”

“Come on!”

“Absolutely no-” Peter was cut off by a scream about three blocks away. Peter slipped into his Spider-Man persona with more ease than he had in a while.

Guess those lessons with Daredevil are paying off, Spider-Man thought as he and Daredevil shot to their feet, Deadpool quickly following after.

“I’m assuming that’s the end of lunch,” Deadpool said mournfully once both he and Spider-Man pulled their masks back down.

“At least we all finished eating for once!” Spider-Man laughed as the vigilantes started running toward the scream.

Notes:

Forgot to do this end note yesterday, sorry!

Anyway, I love the idea that Peter has both Team Red and the Avengers. I also like other tropes that I'll maybe talk about in later chapters, so I don't give things away. What I'm not a huge fan of is when Tony is written like a villain. I like Dad Tony. I also like Dad Matt. So, I wrote this! I do not think it's my best work, but I am still improving.

That being said, if y'all have any constructive (emphasis on constructive) criticism, I would love it! Just please tell me at least one thing you liked, or I did well on so my motivation and/or pride in my work doesn't nosedive.

Thank you! Hope you enjoy this fic!
