    Summary

First Directive is to obey the Seculars. Second Directive is to protect your planet. These are the two main rules deeply embedded into the value system and very identity of any android. They serve the Seculars, and the Seculars serve all of humanity. This is right, this is how it was, and how it should always be. But what happens if one of the directive becomes impossible to fulfill?

The main character Atlas is given a contradictory mission to eliminate a criminal named Selghran. Rumor has it that Selghran killed one of the androids and disobeyed the Seculars—the supreme government of the Union of Planets.

Atlas is set for adventures amid space-time anomalies, facing complex questions of duty and choice, as well as a complete reevaluation of what he knows about the universe. Who are the Seculars? Where did intelligent life on planets originate? What are the Seeds of Life? How and why were androids created? Why does the hostile Gaskhan race not respond to attempts at communication and only fiercely attacks? And what connection does it all have to a girl named Vi, who accidentally fell into a mini-world chamber with one of the germinating Seeds of Life?
