Straight A’s & Straight Trouble

Summary:

It's hard to imagine how two completely different, clashing personalities could interact—let alone cross paths more than once. But it happens at the start of the second semester, when Twilight gets a fresh set of classmates for the rest of the school year. Among them is none other than the frivolous delinquent, Rainbow Dash. When Twilight realizes she'll be sitting next to her for the rest of the year, she isn’t just displeased—she’s downright distraught.

Right after meeting for the first time, they immediately get into a fight—the first fight of the school year—landing them both in detention. Will they find a way to work through their countless differences and disagreements? Or will they keep butting heads every step of the way?

TLDR: Gay, popular, tomboy rockstar x nerdy, shy booklover that has no rizz

Notes:

Hi y'all, I'm not actually all that well-versed in this ship. This was actually just a dare/request from my cousins LMFAOOO. But anyhow, I hope you'll still get some enjoyment from this!! Lmk if you'd still like for me to continue this. :DD

Work Text:

It would be natural to question: How could these two completely different, clashing personalities interact, let alone cross paths more than once?

Rainbow Dash is your typically reckless, noncompliant, delinquent girl. Her uninhibited personality scored her a role in a band as the lead guitarist, henceforth performing at gigs with them whenever they could nag a spot in the setlists. After all, her band was nothing more than a small and humble one, with the hopes of making it big one day.

Evidently, she does not go unnoticed by the other students in her year. It’s not because she had gained traction on campus entirely because of her band, but because she’s well known for her troublesome behavior. People could care less about what her band even was called.

Combine that with her openly being gay and having a punk-like, delinquent look, and you have yourself a girl that stands out like a sore thumb in the crowd, in more ways than one.

Twilight Sparkle, on the other hand… Well, she’s the complete opposite of Rainbow Dash. She’s reserved, shy, diligent, and incredibly intelligent. She visits the school library a frequent amount of times whenever she’d have a free period in her schedule. Be it because she’s a massive bookworm, or because she finds comfort in the library, or because she couldn’t bother to interact with people, or all of the above.

She is incredibly responsible, and is dead set on getting more than just satisfactory grades. Always top of her class, always recitative, and always punctual. This could all be a result of the traditional mindset that her parents had instilled into her head at a young age: getting stellar grades ends you up in a stellar college, ends you up in a stellar job. Having grown up now, reaching her senior year of high school, she knew that the saying wasn’t entirely true, but she’d been committed to it for so long that she instinctively continued to do so.

It was the morning before classes started, and the library was already open. Twilight plops herself down on an empty sofa in the library, letting out a long sigh. She takes out her laptop, opening it up to check her schedule. However, she realizes that she was looking at the wrong schedule; the old one. The second semester begins today, after all. This meant, of course, that she not only has a new schedule but also a new set of classmates. Just the thought of finally being separated from her old classmates relieved her, but the thought of meeting new people both thrilled and frightened her.

For a moment, she wonders about what kinds of people she’ll meet and be stuck with for the rest of the school year, but quickly pushes those thoughts aside to refocus her attention on her assignments.

Time passes seemingly quickly as Twilight types away on her laptop, glued to her work. Eventually, the school bell rings throughout the halls of the library, serving as Twilight’s que to head off outside. She has this… nervous anticipation welling up inside her as she walks straight to where her classroom is.

Reaching the door to her classroom, she opens it and takes a step inside, scanning the room. An unfamiliar face there, another unfamiliar face there… It turned out that she didn’t recognize anyone familiar in the room. She walks over to take her seat on the desk labeled with her name.

She can’t help but notice her… seatmate sitting all too comfortably, with her legs crossed on top of her desk, while she leans back on her chair with her hands behind her head. Oh, and take a look at her appearance! Her hair all bleached with a rainbow hue, her piercings on some parts of her face, her black leather jacket, her crop top underneath, her ripped jeans…

“What a punk, she is!” was the first thought that popped up in Twilight’s head.

“Hey, what’chu starin’ at?” The voice took Twilight off guard as she ceased staring at the girl’s appearance, meeting back the girl's gaze.

“Uhm… It’s nothing…” Twilight quickly turns away, staring down at her own desk instead, fiddling with her pencil case.

“Oi, I know you were starin’ at me. What is it? Got something to say?”

“No, I wasn’t going to say anything.”

“Oh yeah? You sure? You looked like you were starin’ at me with disgust or somethin’.”

Twilight lets out an almost frustrated huff. She knows that this has nothing to do with her, and that she has to focus on other important matters instead of this ridiculous back and forth between them.

The girl notices her discomfort and silence, scoffing. “What? Cat got your tongue?”

That retort must have struck a nerve in Twilight. Placing her pencil case back on her desk, she straightens up, readjusting her glasses. “Do you really want to know?” Her tone was clearly annoyed.

“Heh, sure. What about?”

Twilight turns in her seat to meet the girl’s gaze once more, almost raising her voice. “The way you sit, the way you dress, the way you present yourself… It’s all unruly! It breaks every dress code and school conduct!”

It's evident from the look on the girl's face and the way she immediately shifts in her seat to face Twilight directly that she's pissed off. It's definitely not the first time someone has called her out on her demeanor and appearance, but she's clearly fed up with it. She wants to put Twilight in her place, wanting her to know that she's messing with the wrong person.

“You wanna say that again? Hm?” She retaliates, staring daggers into Twilight’s eyes. The air around them suddenly grew tense ever since Twilight decided to cross a line she knew she shouldn’t have, but did so anyway.

The rise in both girls’ voices quickly caught the attention of their other classmates in the room; their negative energies already radiating off on them.

Despite the girl’s shift in outward behavior, Twilight doesn’t budge. In fact, she stands her ground, already in the act of opening her mouth to snap back at her. But before the words could leave her mouth, their homeroom teacher suddenly intervened in their dispute before things could escalate further.

“What is going on here with you two? Already causing a ruckus first thing in the morning!”

Uh oh. It seems one of their classmates told on them.
