Steve spoke up for the first time, side-eyeing Mike as the younger boy picked on the skin around his fingernails, a bad habit he had adopted since the disappearance of his sister, "Stop it both of you, Robin's right about the risks this suggestion carries," he added more as Dustin's jaw dropped, "...But, it's the best idea we've had yet, and I propose that we vote on it. Anyone who thinks this is a good idea?" His own hand rose as he finished his sentence, as did Nancy's, Will's, Jonathan's, Dustin's, Lucas's and Erica's. Only Robin and Mike didn't raise their hands.
Steve's eyebrows shot up, surprised so many agreed with him. Usually, he was the only one.
Robin sighed, an exasperated sound coming out of her mouth. She turned to look at Dustin, his hand still up in the air like a quiet rebellion against Robin's protest, and then at Steve, her eyes saying I didn't think you had it in you to betray me like this. She rolled her eyes as she looked in front of her where the rest of The Party sat, splayed across the couch and floor.

Mike frowns.
"Will, why would you say that?"
Will blinks, his face expressing confusion for a moment before smoothing out. All traces of what makes Will Will leave him, and Mike is left staring at the calm surface of a deep lake with turbulent waters raging just beneath its surface.
"Hm, you're right. Let's try that again."
Mike Wheeler blinks, and he's staring up at his bedroom ceiling.

Summary
Immediately post-Season 4, the gang are catching up and reuniting at Hopper's old cabin. Mike, who's been on the edge of a panic attack for the past few days, excuses himself to get some 'fresh air'- unbeknownst to anyone but Joyce, who still isn't fully up-to-date on the Vecna situation. After about 30 minutes, the group notices his absence and are immediately concerned. They can't find Mike anywhere in the surrounding area, but they find the exact thing they were dreading; a small gate.
Mike finds himself in the Upside-Down, but the circumstances are strange. Vecna is nowhere to be seen and the area around him is completely barren. It's an elaborate plot to torment Mike with his greatest fears; forcing him to relive his own worst memories with his family and friends by his side.
How much could one kid have to hide, anyways?
