    Summary

    Sendou swallows, his heart beating in his chest like a rabbit about to be offered up to a predator. Which he supposes he is. His village has always held the god of snakes in a fervent reverence, despite the traders from the outside whispering about an oni out of earshot of his fellow townspeople. The dense, damp forests that surround their home would be rife with deadly vipers and other such creatures if it was not for the protection of the god of snakes, the elders say. And so with the year of the snake upon them, it is tradition to offer their god a sacrifice.
