Work Text:
Choi Soobin likes Choi Yeonjun.
That has never been a secret, given how much he stared at the older boy. Despite how shy he usually was, Soobin's glances were unabashed. He couldn't help it- he loved tracing over the older boy's features, even from afar. A glance at his pouty pink lips, his foxy eyes and his smile. For someone so hot, his smile was one of the goofiest and sweetest Soobin has ever seen- it made his heart swell, just looking at it. Which has never been a problem, until now— “Choi Soobin, stop staring!” A tiny winged figure pulled at his ears, fluttering around like a big pest. Blocking his view.
“Shut up!” Soobin shot back weakly. The tiny figure rolled their eyes, and Soobin flicked a tiny glob of food in his direction. Annoyingly, Beomgyu darts away perfectly, and the glob of food goes splat on the table. He's lucky there's no one else in the cafeteria besides him and Yeonjun, or there would most definitely have been a complaint.
“Someone's got a crush~” the pesky fairy singsongs, and if he weren't his companion (and weirdly useful in missions) Soobin would have picked the tiny fairy up and flicked him to the moon. Instead, the smug fairy settles back onto his shoulder, peering over to look at the fairy perched on Yeonjun's shoulder. He's pretty, and it's not Beomgyu's time to ogle. Soobin eats his food in silence, but after 2 entire minutes, he glances over to his fairy.
“Someones got a crush~” he returns the whisper in an equally annoying singsong, pointedly ignoring the tiny punch Beomgyu makes, wriggling his eyebrows at the fairy.
“Shut up,” Beomgyu's face turns a brilliant shade of fuschia Soobin didn't even think was possible to achieve on human skin, “I don't like like him, but he's just so…handsome, you know?”
Soobin's look of disbelief could send the tiny fairy across galaxies, but the fairy doesn't seem to notice (or rather, Beomgyu pointedly ignores it), continuing to go on as if there isn't a boy god knows how many times his size side-eyeing him into tomorrow. “He's so strong, if you saw his muscles, you'd know they're to die for. What I wouldn't give to have his arms wrapped around my throat,”
Hearing this, Soobin blinks. Once. Twice. And all too many times. “I didn't expect you to have a choking kink, of all things.”
Behind him, he hears an actual choking noise. Without thinking, Soobin turns around, only to come face-to-face with…none other than Choi Yeonjun himself, who, of course, is right behind him.
Soobin's greatest crush of all time is right behind him, choking violently on something he drank. All the blood in Soobin's face drains out of him at that moment, and he can only stare helplessly, before Beomgyu starts screaming. “MOVE, you idiot! Do something!”
Only then does Soobin get to his feet, moving behind his crush to whack his back in hopes that he'll be able to cough out whatever he's choking on. Taehyun flitters around him anxiously, and Soobin isn't quite sure if the sight of him is unsettling or comforting.
“Whack him harder— you're barely hitting him!” Taehyun yells, much to Soobin's embarrassment (it is a fair assessment, though- Soobin tends to be scared of his own strength, and he most definitely doesn't want to crack his crush’s ribs.) He tries to pet his back with more force as Yeonjun coughs violently. To his surprise, Beomgyu keeps his lips sealed, instead of teasing Soobin. Instead, he flies straight to Taehyun.
“He'll be okay,” Beomgyu says, in an attempt to comfort Taehyun, reaching out to grab his hand and squeeze it tightly, as if he didn't say what he said earlier.
If Soobin weren't busy enough trying to make sure his crush didn't die, he'd definitely have been in awe of Beomgyu's courage. (He still sort of was, but not as much, because all his focus was on getting Yeonjun back from the Land of Choking.) At least one of us is bold enough. To his surprise, Taehyun didn't bother to shake Beomgyu off. Instead, he simply stayed where he was, floating beside him with their hands intertwined. Soobin had a sneaking suspicion they knew each other from before , but just like he did earlier, Soobin continued with his rescue.
After a few minutes of suspense and violent coughing, he finally heard a loud, long breath claw and unfurl its way out of Yeonjun's lungs. Soobin let out a sigh of relief as his crush finally took a few deep breaths, before turning to Soobin. The weight of his gaze felt heavy to Soobin, enough to make him flush. His eyes were soft, and far closer than Soobin was used to seeing up close. He had a mole beneath his right eye, one Soobin was fairly certain he hadn't seen before. It was faint, like one that was newly developing, and Soobin (as usual) was tongue-tied.
Beomgyu spoke up first. “Are you guys done staring at each other? There's other people here, you know?”
Hearing this, Soobin immediately rolls his eyes- it's become a reflex by now, thanks to Beomgyu. It takes him two seconds to realise what he's done, much to his horror. “I'm sorry,” he starts immediately, but Yeonjun does something Soobin never thought he'd do. He laughs, before smiling at Soobin. “ It's fine,” he says, turning to the two fairies. He eyes their intertwined hands with a sort of detached amusement. “And the two of you look very cosy. Are you sure you're in a position to say anything?”
“That's different! Me and Taehyun are married! Unlike somebody ,” Beomgyu glances pointedly at his Companion. Soobin sputters at that, but given the gleam in Beomgyu's eyes, that isn't the worst of it. He shoots the fairy a don't you dare look, but it's never deterred the fairy before, and Soobin doubts it'll make a difference now. I'm fucked.
“Who can't even confess to his crush, even when he's right in front of him,” Beomgyu finishes with relish, much to Soobin's horror. It takes every bit of his self control not to rush towards Beomgyu and throttle him. Okay, he can't exactly do that, but if he encasess the fairy in his hands and violently shakes him, it creates a similar effect. Also. Taehyun. He can't possibly shake both fairies, or Yeonjun would hate him for life. If he doesn't already hate him. What if he does?
Soobin is prone to panicking over small things, being outed by his fairy is a colossal disaster. He can't even dispute it, though- given that it's true. Anxiously, he glances over to Yeonjun, who for some odd, funny reason, has an expectant look on his face, nearly resembling a puppy. (Which is again, odd, because Soobin had always thought of him as a cat person. He may or may not have already named all the cats they were going to get, eventually.)
“You like me?” Yeonjun's question was painstakingly straightforward, and unfortunately, so was Soobin's answer.
“Yes.” of all the confessions he'd dreamt of, this one was definitely the most awful one Soobin could end up with. All of his alliteration, allusions and allegory gone, no metaphors, no similes. Just one word. Yes. The most devastating and jubilating word in the entire dictionary, and of all words it just had to be Soobin's answer.
“I—” but the fond look in Yeonjun's eyes cuts him off, and the older boy stares up at him with what Soobin could only describe as heart eyes, a look he never expected to see on Yeonjun, especially not when he's looking at him. A look he's craved for years, and now-
Maybe one word is all it takes, because in the next instant, Yeonjun tiptoes slightly, placing his arms near the back of Soobin's neck, pulling closer to him. Soobin leans down slightly, his eyes closing as their breaths mingle, but he's dreamed about this moment so much that it's nearly surreal. He leans forward to kiss Yeonjun, but —
As Yeonjun does, he kisses Soobin first.
His lips are as soft as Soobin dreamt they would be, slightly chapped around the edges, but the kiss is perfect, though their teeth clash slightly from time to time. Yeonjun tastes like lemon and mint chocolate, which Soobin isn't the greatest fan of, but it's Yeonjun, and so he loves it. They kiss until they're out of breath, which is, admittedly- not very long, given that it's Soobin's first time. Idly, he wonders if it's Yeonjun's. They pull apart slightly, taking a while to regain their breaths.
“You have no clue how long I've been waiting for this,” Yeonjun whispers after a few moments.
“Same here,” Soobin says. His head has already begun reeling from what just happened, but the feel of hands pressed against his neck is enough to remind him it's real. “There's so much I want to tell you,”
“You guys are less than two minutes in, and you're already being disgusting,” Taehyun’s voice cuts anything Soobin wants to say short. “I fear for our future,” he deadpans.
“Like you and Beomgyu hyung are any better! You know how many compromising positions I've found you guys in?” It takes Yeonjun about two seconds to realise what he has said, before an enranged bear fairy came charging towards him at the speed of light. “CHOI YEONJUN!”
To Soobin's absolute (lack of) surprise, the older boy can sprint faster than Beomgyu can fly, and the cafeteria somehow devolves into chaos with only the 4 of them present. Soobin wonders what Kai would think if he were here, but he doesn't have to wonder when the younger boy steps into the cafeteria with a look of absolute confusion that quickly turns into horror as Yeonjun sprints into his direction, a manic fairy chasing after him.
It's pure chaos, but Soobin would have it no other way.
