Work Text:

They were each other’s arms, huddled for warmth in the aftermath of their love making.

Tears falling freely for them both. Not because of hurt rather of happiness, of love, of being able to feel exposed, raw and vulnerable in the arms of the one trusted person on the whole wide galaxy.

Cody and Rex, feeling free.

The respite albeit brief, these moments neither would ever want to exchange for all the credits in the galaxy. Their secret to share even if their relationship far from hidden from the rest of the GAR.

“It’s been a while we’ve done this.”

“Too long, love. Too long.”

Caressing the others exposed skin. Without hurry, without the need to do anything more right now except to simply exist in each other the presence being enough.

“I hope… some day soon, we can truly be free from it all, from the war and be us, together.”

It was a wish, for all the clones, alas, more so for these two.

“I know we will, love.”

It wasn’t a fact nor a promise. Simply a heartfelt wish to any deities out there, in the Force, listening to the two lovers silent prayers.

“It’s hard. Sometimes. Acting like it’s all that matters, being a soldier, the war, the battles.”

“I know love. It’s not all we are though. But for now that is mostly us.”

Cody wasn’t wrong, neither right either. They were proud soldiers true, but as the war had continued its course, the more of their brethren lost, the more each trooper had started to question if this was all there was. Whether they wanted the more.

As they all yearned for the more, freedom, love, not being a soldier in a war not of their making. To live their lives as they chose to in the good and the bad.

And perhaps some day they would get it all. Some day.

“For now, we can only cherish these precious moments just for ourselves. Together. You and me love.”

“I know sweetheart, but sometimes… I just wish…”

“Yeah love, I know…”

Snuggling closer together, holding on for dear life not letting go before morning.

The mission calling them, true.

They were tough. Soldiers for the Republic after all.

That is when they weren’t in here, in their shared privacy,  just the two of them feeling small.

The soft sounds of love shared in the silence of the night, the few tears shed for no other to see or to be figure out. Just the two of them, no one else.

Always, Cody and Rex.
